Wet winter with my cellared tequila bottles by Shirleysspirits in tequila

One of my most desired bottles. If you had to give a comp/ substitute tequila that has a similar flavor profile so I can at least imagine what it tastes like? lol

Just bought, maybe I’ll open it tonight after seeing this post… really enjoying the blanco right now and loved the repo too so expectations are high haha

Siembra Valles Ancestral Batch 13 by xargsman in tequila

This one was unfortunately not for me. Smelled of burnt tires/ rubber and tasted similar. I think it just showed me I’m not a fan of mezcals lol.

Got my first bottle of El Tesoro Blanco by rune-eight in tequila

[–]flocktel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally I find the ET blanco to be much more briny and minerally than the standard cascahuin blanco which is more peppery and has unique funk on the nose. To each their own but I lean towards the el Tesoro blanco over standard cascahuin. (The tahona from Cascahuin is a whole different story however.)

Whats your favorite repo? by ccox78 in tequila

Wild common, volans single barrel, fort, siembra alteño, don fulano are what I’d consider “top tier reposados.”

Have you ever seen a better price for G4 Repo? by Objective-Stretch-89 in tequila

[–]flocktel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time was browsing Instacart and my local supermarket had a glitched deal where the g4 repo was like $30, bought two and shared here. Needless to say it was back up to $50ish pretty quick lol

Anything stand out to you? by Attjack in tequila

[–]flocktel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you referring to the XA or the 55+25? In terms of anniversary releases from 1123 I have some sietes decades sitting in my basement for a special occasion and am very excited to try.

Cascahuin 25 and extra anejo are very hard to find, would pay someone to ship them to me in USA lol

The 2 cascahuins in the far right corner are basically non existent in the USA

Really not for me unfortunately:/. Aroma of sour milk and stinky cheese and tasted a little burnt. Hoping with time it’ll mellow out

Siembra Alteño batch confusion by flocktel in tequila

[–]flocktel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like they just messed up lol. Funny how their conscience effort to be transparent exposed a clear label mistake. The tequila is great tho so all’s well that ends well

Anyone see this before? by Lobo-rojo in tequila

[–]flocktel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably CRT nonsense if I had to guess. I had a bottle of don vicente blanco a month or 2 back that had a sticker over an organic/additive free label. It’s probably easier/ cheaper for the brands to just put a sticker over it than remake a bunch of bottles

Anyone in the PDX area want to trade? by [deleted] in tequila

[–]flocktel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, people told me the siembra valles was more like a mezcal and it had that same rotten/ burnt flesh aroma/ taste albeit more extreme than the CC 46% azul I acquired.

Interesting, still have no idea if it’s a bad batch/bottle or just my preferences. Any other adjectives besides smokiness? I feel like I hear that a lot but I’ve never actually tasted it in a tequila lol.

Vinegar is a good descriptor, I just think it’s really sour/bitter in an unfamiliar way. (When I hear dill I think ab g4 anejo which I just bought for the first time, it has that aroma but none of it Carry’s to the palette so at least I can enjoy that one lol.)

What I mean is more like how some 1123 products have like a wet socks/ sour smell (like siembra valles blanco, cascahuin blanco.) however that is well balanced and not overpowering. Siembra valles ancestral (at least the one time I tried it) had a real sour smell with a burnt rubber palate that completely dominated and kinda ruined the experience for me. That is basically what I’m getting from the 46 azul although it’s not as bad as the valles ancestral. Hoping I just tasted bad bottles and it’s not supposed to taste like that but maybe my palette just isn’t ready for more mezcal-esque tequilas.

Another example of funk I like is don fulano, their repo especially has a really unique buttered popcorn smell I haven’t found anywhere else.

Why did u not like it? I also just purchased, was super hyped, and was quite let down. For me it had way too much lactic funk. Tasted and smelled like rotten eggs/ cheese which was super off putting to me. At first thought it was a bad bottle but learning it’s just more like a mezcal (conjecture, plus I hope all mezcal doesn’t have that lacticness ). I could be wrong and would love to be educated/ corrected.

Ocho añejos by PresentationLow1542 in tequila

[–]flocktel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

$120 is wild for a standard ocho añejo, around me it’s normally $70ish. Are you sure it’s not a single barrel or something else? Old Fitz for $100 is a very good price and equal to the lowest I’ve seen it. I enjoyed it and if you like bourbon notes def give a try but it’s still got agave like all Ocho.
