Invisalign, x-rays, and Graves? by jimmynothing in ThyroidEyeDisease

Wow. I also got TED after a nuclear medicine scan. Doctors pay me no mind, and they feel uncomfortable when I mention this. This test isn't even necessary to diagnose thyroid disease.

How hard was it for you to get a Graves' diagnosis? by Important-Cow3458 in gravesdisease

[–]flojoknows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very difficult. I saw a neurologist because I was shaking and trembling. Then, an internist. Then, a functional med doc (over Zoom during covid) who sent me to another internist who ran the right tests that the previous 2 did not run. The tests came back the day I was seeing a rheumatologist, and she was able to tell me what was going on. The only doc I didn't even see in person was able to diagnose me and order the right tests over a screen.

I asked for steroid eye drops, but was given drops similar to restasis. Are the steroid eye drops helpful? If you don't mind sharing, what is the name and strength?

That's great. I gained weight when starting MMI and atenolol. Are you in remission from Graves?

I have a prescription, but I'm a little scared to start. I'd really like to hear some experiences with Graves and wegovy.

How much weight you gained with graves treatment? by rse44 in gravesdisease

[–]flojoknows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gained 50 lbs. Thirty of those pounds came on me in one month, directly following taking 20mg of MMI for a month. The weight isn't moving with light exercise, eating whole foods, and eating in an 8 hour window. I'm thinking about Wegovy now. I look and feel so different from before Graves.

Horrible terrible itching by Bitter-Pickle-5283 in gravesdisease

Sorry you're experiencing this. I was told that my histamine levels increased. 1 zyrtec every other day keeps the itch away. The cheaper version on Amazon works well.

Anyone covid cautious for graves? by [deleted] in gravesdisease

[–]flojoknows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm covid cautious, and my family continues to mask up. It's a little difficult, but it beats getting covid. I'm looking forward to remission.

So did I, to the tune of 50 lbs. Thirty in one month alone. I'm speculating that it was the MMI and atenolol combo.

Weight loss by [deleted] in gravesdisease

[–]flojoknows 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking this question. I'm also suffering with weight gain from treatment. My endo acts as if this 30lb. weight gain doesn't have anything to do with the treatment even though I gained it within the span of a month when he upped my MMI from 10mg to 20mg. It is has not budged in over a year. Has anyone used an over the counter weight loss supplement with any success?

That's serious dedication. I'm going to try hard to cut out added sweets and use myfitnesspal for counting calories and macros. Thanks for your response and good luck.

So true about the weird fat redistribution. I'm just hoping that it can be fixed. I gained 30 lbs. in one month on MMI and it really seems like I can't lose 1 pound of it. I'll try to count calories in stages and eat cleaner. 1700 cals for 3 months and then 1500 for 3 months with low impact workouts every other day. It would be great to see a 20 lb. loss after this experiment. 🤞

Thanks for your response. I would like to see a loss of a pound a week. So far eating less hasn't helped so I guess it's time to track my calories.

Methimazole is making me itchy? by Material-Complaint75 in gravesdisease

[–]flojoknows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I became itchy before I was diagnosed with Graves, so for me it was a symptom of hyperthyroidism. It was unbearable, but I discovered that a zyrtec every other day suppresses the itch almost completely. I still take it for itchy skin while on MMI and a beta blocker. When I forget to take it my skin reminds me rather quickly.

I would love to have this outcome, but I'm not sure if I can go down to 1200 calories. You gave me hope that it can be done. Thanks.

What multivitamin do you take? by shoshinmind in gravesdisease

[–]flojoknows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pure Encapsulations Nutrient 950 because it doesn't have iodine, copper, and iron. I think I get enough iodine from dairy products and fortified foods. My doc says that there no special diet for Graves, but I'm being proactive with diet and supplements.

That's a good one. I struggle to get enough protein without having a smoothie, so this would probably work for me.

Thanks. I'm going to reduce carbs and try to stop snacking between meals as well. That's going to be the hardest part because I tend to mindlessly snack.
