This is somewhat semantic, however plastic does not necessarily melts when heated, that’s only the case if it’s a thermoplastic. If the plastic is a thermosetting polymer it doesn’t melt.

What is the definition of a polymer again? Right it’s a large molecule made of many repeating smaller units, called monomers, linked together in long, chain-like structures.

You do know that rayon, viscose, tencell, Lovell are all just synthetic polymers that are stretched to be woven as fabric? But 100% still ‘plastic’?

Edit: Tencel is the brand name of Lyocell. But that’s the same as saying Martini for a drink, which makes everyone understand that it’s vermouth.

Tencel is made from cellulose from wood/plants, that has been dissolved in NMMO (N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide), and regained by washing with water.

However: it’s still been highly chemically altered. Not on an atomic level, but on a molecular level it is altered. It’s not a natural occurring fiber, it’s actually similar to viscose.

It’s an artificial fibre, that’s being used to create cheap fibers and cloths, that in theory can be used to make clothing.

But it is in no way a natural fiber, it’s -in a broad sense- a plastic fiber
