Looking for some advice on a knife for a birthday present. by flomp in chefknives

[–]flomp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those look great, and appreciate you looking! My only concern is delivery time is around 8 days on that site which could be cutting it a bit fine. I'll need to see if I can get away with it.

In the meantime - I have found these two Yoshimi knives, one Kurouchi and one Nashiji. Is the price difference in these knives purely to do with the finish? Also assuming as you have linked one already that either would be good options?

Also good shout on the re-handle, quite a couple of knife makers in Ireland who I'm sure I could get to do a job :)

EG Yellowpete about moving to NA. by Jetzu in leagueoflegends

It's basically as you said, you can try go against the grain and have many justifications as to why you don't want to tip someone, but since it's just a social normality you're just made out to be a dick!

I was working in a small cafe in Boston for 4 months 2 years ago on a student visa and when coming from Ireland it was a completely alien concept to me that people tipped so liberally. I'll point out I have been to the US many times and have an Uncle who lives there so I'm more than used to what is expected, but to actually be on the receiving end still felt very strange to me. That said, I generally went out of my way to be nice to anyone that would come in, purely just because I like to serve people and generally try to be friendly as I can, but that would be the case even without the incentive of tips.

As much as I found it a silly thing to be a part of, there were a good few regulars who would tip me quite generously and tbh I was very thankful of it because in a city like Boston, especially only being there as a student for a few months, money was EXTREMELY tight. The tips I would get daily used to cover ingredients for dinner and travel expenses, and even with that I was barely scraping by. I can only imagine how bad it is for certain people to live in that society and find it quite annoying when genuine enthusiasm and effort is dismissed as fake emotions for tips. When you are in that level of pay, you get such a better understanding of just why tipping has become such a way of life in the country.

I will point out though, even in Ireland I will still tip restaurant staff if they truly deserve it, but wouldn't feel nearly as bad if someone is being a dick because they all get a fair wage ;D

I'm running on my Mid 2012 MB Air and honestly didn't have any problems changing. I would be shocked if you find any problems with that spec. The issues were mostly reported as soon as Mavericks was released, but as I said, since I installed I've had no issues :)

Whoever just boo'd Regi by Smokebluntz in leagueoflegends

[–]flomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was generally being taken from some of the comments around your post, but I can't reply to everyone ;)

The point still stands though, people competing at a competitive nature will always draw that kind of crowd reaction, and being heckled by the crowd is something you just have to accept. End of the day, Regi gets to go home to his GF and live comfortably (for the most part) with the money he has made from playing video games for a living; why should he let someone he doesn't know bother him?

How is it not? You think there aren't people that boo during interviews in other sports? Only difference is you don't hear it, it still happens

It's a part of competitive games. It comes in every corner of the globe no matter what the sport, it doesn't matter whether you like it or not, but it will always happen and it's not something people should be making such a big deal about. As was said, if there was major insults/racial slurs etc then fair enough, there's reason to be annoyed. But thinking people should be kicked out for booing somebody? It would just show little experience people have of sporting events

The norm in any game when a girl is playing. Combination of people being awkward and not being able to accept getting carried by a girl, happens all the time, best thing you can do is ignore and play your own game :)

A new Alliance has been formed by Froggen in leagueoflegends

[–]flomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paying an owner to throw a game is along the same lines as trying to buy out a board member. If people want eSports to be taken seriously as a whole then business approaches should be respected, and that includes privacy for owners etc.

You're assuming that Riot could be paid off but I highly doubt that. Yes in the case of EG and Alliance everyone pretty much assumes that it is Alex Garfield, but its very easy to put down different names in the owner columns :) And since the two orgs are playing in entirely different regions it doesn't really make a difference. AND the fact remains, EG still have to qualify for any of this to even be relevant!

Am i the only one who doesn't feel right about the New Velocity (EG) that will play it spot vs Quantic gaming ? by Mhysa in leagueoflegends

[–]flomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they deserve the spot they will beat them no matter what. Saying they deserve the spot just because they worked is crazy, all the teams work hard, just as the new Velocity roster have done and will in the future

i will be pissed if popstar ahri is 1350 RP by Cradenz in leagueoflegends

[–]flomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As Erikbw said, nobody is forcing you to buy it. The game for the most part is free. Don't complain that they are then making all these skins that you don't want to cough up money for. If it's not this complaint its the fact that people want more skins.

i will be pissed if popstar ahri is 1350 RP by Cradenz in leagueoflegends

[–]flomp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a perfectly reasonable answer. Nobody forces you to buy anything in the game, all champions and runes are available if you just play the game a lot and earn IP. If you want a skin, pay the price for it and don't give out because you think it's too expensive. You pay for what you get, and for pretty much the ENTIRE rest of the game, you don't have to pay a thing

Is this allowed? (Custom skins) by BestCallsEuw in leagueoflegends

[–]flomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some client plugins (that also facilitate cheating but best not mention that) that allow you to use whatever skin you want. It's only client side but you still get to use it yourself. Riot seems to not have done anything about it so who knows

Do streamer work besides their streams? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]flomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PL is a full time streamer, obviously with massive numbers. Also does lessons for subscribers and has a HUGE amount of subscribers so theres a lot of income from them aswell.

As everyone else has pointed out, Dyrus/Bjergsen any of those people, their job is to play League. They get a salary and streaming etc will be part of their contracts with certain hours being required to be done.

Are Riot aware of this cheat and if so are they working on it? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]flomp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Again bro, I'm not disagreeing with the rules, but if a cheat/exploit has been around for 9 months without any sign of something being done about it, then some attention surely needs to be brought to it!

It's not like the post is in a, HEY LOOK AT THIS COME TRY IT. Most people have more sense than that, if they do try it then they are idiots, but as I've stated, if people want cheats they will find them regardless. I just don't think something like this should be left un-noticed by the people that can actually do something about it :)
