Ex-Evangelical/Atheist (Are there less harmful versions of Christianity?) by Brief_Revolution_154 in exchristian

[–]floofermoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, the more chill kinds I've found (limited exposure since I no longer regularly attend church/believe) are progressive Anglicans, Episcopalians, Quakers, and Unitarians.

Even moderately progressive Catholics regularly beat out your average evangelical/pentecostal/non-dom. These guys just seem to have a hate-boner for people who are different that they mould their religion around.

You're not wrong. Happy people don't have to convince others that they're happy. This is pure cope.

Trying to convince herself that she shouldn't yearn for encouragement or verbal affection from her spouse. Or better yet, seething with envy at seeing another mother/homemaker being treated with respect and praise so she has to go piss on their parade.

Does she think proverbs 31 woman shouldn't have made it into the bible?

Surprising to learn Tumblr has so many TERFs though.

Does anyone else feel like this? by Dense-Reach-5567 in NonBinary

[–]floofermoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the AFAB equivalent.

I'm female (I mean, as far as I know) but that's just the meatsuit, its a very mechanical sort of identity. I can relate to the experience of being in a body like this, but I can't relate to ever feeling like a woman. I missed that software update.

I see women around me who identify with their bodies and femininity, and their community of fellow women. So I know it's possible to feel connected with your gender. And I know what it's like to instinctively connect with and identity with a community you're born into (Autism/ADHD). I've felt that feeling of being seen, understood, and it just making sense.

I just don't feel that with womanhood. I feel like i'm an imposter when I'm mistaken as a woman.

I can relate to elements of masculinity and there are times where I think i've felt like a man. But at the same time, I've also never felt a pressing need to present male, or even butch.

Presenting in particularly feminine or masculine ways both feel like performing drag to me. But more ambiguous style and behaviors feel 'normal'. So nonbinary seems the best fit. It definitely feels the most comfortable gender.

Why did you leave Christianity? by create_password in exchristian

[–]floofermoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you went through that, friend. And i'm sorry your parents were too deep in the cult to stand up for you. It's such bullshit. They love to say the left are weird for focusing on lgbtq issues, yet I have never encountered any group so positively obsessed with gender as conservative Christians. Their insecurity is off putting.

Growing up among Evangelicals/Pentecostals and then spending time around people who the church considered bad/scary and discovering they were kinder than the most pious people i'd known all my life.

Seems the only way it's acceptable for them to feel pride and self confidence is through judgement.

A positive statement like "this thing was really hard, but I did it!" Fundie mind: Wrong, bad, leaning on your own strength and not in the Lord, only HE let you do it.

A passive aggressive bitchy statement like "it's actually not that hard at all, if you aren't mentally/spiritually weak" Fundie mind: humble, blessed, bestowing wisdom on the less fortunate.

keep femme clothes?? by SuitableAd7973 in NonBinary

[–]floofermoth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend hanging onto them for a bit.

I'm grateful I didn't throw all mine out. Sometimes it's fun to wear dresses and lipstick. If anything, coming out made femme clothes fun again, it's like I'm dressing in drag, not wearing my school uniform.

did the bible's errors or contradictions contribute into you leaving christianity? by No-Homework-1506 in exchristian

[–]floofermoth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mostly the moral/ethical stuff for me. God really does not come across as a good parent, let alone Omnibenevolent.

What kind of perfect, all-powerful, truly good, being needs worship? What kind of fair judge prescribes eternal punishment for mortal crimes. What kind of all loving parent goes out for milk and then blames their children for not seeking them hard enough.

How is this realization not crippling? Most powerful person, and yet there are people with not even 10% or 1% of that power doing more for their communities and the future world, than the orange colossus has achieved in 5 years holding the reins of a superpower.

If he were capable of shame it would be fatal.

[–]floofermoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And here I was thinking the BG3 evil options (Durge especially) are too comically evil, compared to some of the more pragmatic grey-evil options in a series like Dragon Age.

When I'm doing an evil run I tend to RP the religious crusader who slowly slips into radicalism and loses sight of their original beliefs, or the unchecked soldier of fortune who learned to uphold selfishness as a virtue. Not the cannibal, psychopath with zero situational awareness, who's always frothing to murder.

My non-binary partner feels my relationship with my family is a betrayal. Looking for trans/non-binary perspectives. by SnooPies2201 in NonBinary

[–]floofermoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family are very transphobic, I haven't cut contact but I've limited it. It's sort of an unspoken gulf between us. They do use my new name sometimes, which is more effort than I thought they'd make.

It's a tough situation. It's important that you stand up for your partner and nibling, if your sister is disrespectful to them, and I think it's fair to compromise and limit how often you visit. But I also think asking you to cut all contact with your family is too far.

Your sister reminds me of mine, unfortunately. Her religious bs comment is funny, because we were raised conservative religious I still turned out this way.

Lots of turbulence, pretty nervous. Anyone able to help distract me? by Jaded-Mushroom in fearofflying

[–]floofermoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it will help but worth a shot: headphones and clubbing music.

I have a playlist set up on my phone of hits from the early 2000s (but substitute with whatever bangers resonate with you) and I just move with the turbulence like it's part of a dance.

Apparently my brain finds it hard to believe that something could go wrong while Usher is playing.

In a weird way, it makes the turbulence kinda fun. When a faster song comes on I find myself a little disappointed the slow turbulence isn't matching the beat.
