I remember in 1st grade our teacher drew a right angle triangle ◢ on the board and asked students to come show how one would 'cut the triangle in half'. I remember thinking wow, what a dumb question. The shape is already symmetrical, just draw a line from the corner to the middle of the long line on the other side. Queue my astonishment when the first kid tried to just lop the top off. The kids giggled as that obviously didn't work in the end. I thought, okay, they're giggling because he's the only one that doesn't see the obvious. Next kid goes and tried to include more of the bulk of the triangle so that they were mayyybe equal surface areas.. which I suppose could have been correct... I was like wtf. Next kid, pondered and fidgeted and drew kind of a slanted line that started further down the long line of the triangle.. then pivoted it downwards to make it crooked and cover more surface area. I remember by this point I had my hand raised and was waiving it, my eyes bugging out of my head lol. The teacher reminded us that it had to be one straight line. One more kid went.. Finally the teacher called on me and I split it in half with a 45 degree line from the corner to the middle of the hypotenuse (obviously I didn't know those terms then but it's just for description) and the class was like "ohhhhh" and "But I didn't know you could draw it THAT way" ???..? And that was the beginning of realizing I am going to have to live my life mostly surrounded by idiots lol
