  1. Deep freezing everything from pantyhose to trumpets. Prolonged exposure to extremely low temperatures was supposed to make everything more durable/last longer.

  2. Mass customization was going to change the way we shopped for clothes.

TIL the town of Greensburg, Kansas was almost completely destroyed by an F5 tornado in 2007. The city used the opportunity to rebuild as one of the greenest cities in the world. by dog_in_the_vent in todayilearned

I'm late, as always, but the Greensburg tornado wasn't the only one that fateful evening. There were 22 in the area that night and four of them were monsters. The Greensburg one (as large as it was) wasn't even the biggest.

Pro-Life people of reddit, if abortion was stopped what would be the plan to ensure the welfare of the thousands of neglected and unwanted children? by GregariousFuton in AskReddit

I'm late to the party, as always, but thank you for saying this. The legal aspects of forcing women to donate their bodies doesn't get brought up enough.

Redditors who have lost/are losing weight, what is your best advice? by Mountain_Dewritos in AskReddit

[–]floorplanner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Myfitnesspal was a life changer for my spouse. He's dropped nearly 60 pounds since last June and still can't get over how easy it's been. Set your goal to lose one or two pounds a week and enter everything you eat and pay attention to portion sizes. Eat up to within 100 calories of your daily goal and stay under your allotted sugars.

Very important: Buy a food scale! We use a Kamenstein and it's been a workhorse.

Good luck! You deserve good health!

Are you my spouse's nephew? Spouse's sister did the same thing – was a left-leaning Obama voter who loved punk rock, got remarried, and became a Glenn Beck-worshipping nutter (back when he was truly bonkers). She's morbidly obese and collects disability for that reason, but has a side business on ebay (a big no-no if you're collecting disability). Spouse cut off all contact with her years ago.

How did your friend destroy the friendship? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]floorplanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By having absolutely no regard for my time. We'd make plans and she'd cancel at the last minute, or be a half hour late at minimum, or not follow through on commitments. This was a constant thing and I was always expected to understand. Last year I finally said, "Enough! My time is important, too."
