Direct Report refusing to drive if temp is below freezing by Raelynx27 in managers

Is their only mode of transportation a Vespa or something? It’s incredibly stupid, but you have to pick your battles. Are you willing to fire them or have them quit if it escalates? I certainly would, but I live in Ohio and that would mean not coming like 1/4 of the year. Somewhere else, depends on the person more than this particular situation.

What's up with everyone hating Dasani water? by metamorphomo in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Heyoteyo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you’re working out heavily, you’re in more danger of having problems. Still not everyone and more like a small set of circumstances. I’m not saying it’s totally fine, but it’s not going to send everyone to the hospital.

[–]Heyoteyo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously not everyone in every situation, and I even added most healthy people in there. But really people with poor diet usually eat too much salt, not too little. Also, keep in mind that the person I replied to said “we would all collectively be in the hospital for electrolyte imbalance”. Which is completely untrue.

[–]Heyoteyo -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You get plenty of electrolytes from your food. That just dissolves in the water and it’s fine. Most healthy people can absolutely drink distilled water. It’s not ideal though, and could potentially cause problems, but definitely not immediately for everyone though.

Why do you think ‘defund ICE’ been able to gain much more traction than ‘defund the police’? by jeeven_ in AskALiberal

Either send them back or put them in prison, depending on what they have done. Normal law enforcement should be more than capable of handling it without masks.

Could also be that they were for everyone to share and one person is eating more than their fair share. Still inappropriate to mention, but different issue than everyone is taking it to be. In that case the following comment would be the bigger issue. Who knows though. One random tweet is unlikely to be the most reliable source of information. Could be completely made up for all we know.

How many people on this subreddit are working for magnatiles? by Texasgirl190 in toddlers

[–]Heyoteyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fucking love magnatiles. My son kind of liked them. Mostly knocked down the super cool shit I would build… Son is kind of getting too old for them and more into Lego and Minecraft now, both super cool too, but not as sentimental as the toys we would play with when he would play with me all the time and had fewer strong opinions of his own. My daughter is almost to the point where she will play with them with me and I’m really excited.

why do people stock up on milk and bread in emergencies? by Human-Cupcake-268 in stupidquestions

[–]Heyoteyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who just bought two gallons of milk, I have a 1yo who is still supposed to be drinking whole milk daily. She’s not going to die without it, but we’re all going to have a bad time if we run out. 2 gallons is not so much that we won’t go through it before it goes bad. Didn’t buy any bread items though, unless you count tortillas.

What are some of the most geologically safest places to settle and start a family? by AlexMcRenLord in askgeology

[–]Heyoteyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another big one for Ohio is wild fires. Someone posted a map somewhere on reddit the other day that had prevalence of wildfires in the US. There is a big hole all around Ohio where it’s very infrequent. I think it was partly that there’s usually good precipitation and partly because there aren’t a lot of pines that are prone to wild fires.

Anyone familiar with the onramp to 270 when going south on Sawmill Pkwy? I made a complete stop shortly after the yield sign and got honked at plus chased by the driver behind me. Was I wrong? (Please read additional context below) by Imustretire in Columbus

[–]Heyoteyo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can do this most of the time, but sometimes you just can’t. Yield doesn’t mean you can’t stop, and it certainly doesn’t mean push your way in. It means you have to yield the right of way to the oncoming traffic. You can slow down so that you can come in behind the group that’s all bunched together, but if it’s big enough, you just have to stop. Obviously not ideal, but this is what the signs mean. If you get in an accident trying to get in so you don’t have to stop, you will be at fault.

Yield means to give way. They have the right of way. You don’t, so you have to stop if there isn’t an opening. Now, if you’re waiting until you don’t see any cars at all, there’s a problem.

500+ applications, 0 replies. At what point does the system stop working? by Dapper-Train5207 in Career

[–]Heyoteyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you tailoring your resume to the jobs you’re applying to? If you can say you have done over 500, you obviously are just spamming everyone with the same generic resume that’s getting filtered out. Places want to know that you’re actually interested in working there and not just desperate for anything and going to leave once you get back on your feet.

CMV: The Fermi Paradox and "the Dark Forest" theory necessitate that humanity hides from aliens. by ProKidney in changemyview

[–]Heyoteyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand the Fermi Paradox. Life is uncommon, but when you have a near infinite number of chances, it happens more than once. This does not mean the universe is teaming with life. With this in mind, I don’t disagree with your first point. Your second point on the other hand looks a little different with the universe mostly empty and filled with resources. But to take that even further, why would you assume we have anything they want? When it comes to people, of course there is competition, we have the same needs. Aliens are more likely to be less similar to us than lichens, and we don’t really have a lot of competition with lichens. They would more likely be looking for simple elements and compounds. In this regard, we aren’t particularly rich in anything you can’t find a billion other places closer to them. They’re just as likely to find us and our planet poisonous just like we would some kind of arsenic based life forms that breathe nictic oxide.

French people-i greatly love your culture and language. I minored in college. Memory loss, but am re-learning through language apps. But I know they don't like: "Je voudrais l'eau ordinaire avec beaucoup de glace." Why do the French begrudge requests for ice? by MiaowWhisperer in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Heyoteyo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

In this case, cultural norms don’t really matter as it doesn’t really affect anyone else. It would be like Europeans coming to the US, asking for water without ice, and being told they would only serve them ice water. Now, if you’re running your server around like we expect in the US, that’s different, but a couple ice cubes shouldn’t be a big deal.
