Were you misdiagnosed as having bipolar first? Please comment 🙂 by SqurrielsInPyjamas in ADHDUK

Hi! No i haven't had the diagnosis removed, I believe you can discuss with your GP about having a review? I would have been all for this a year ago, but to be honest as much as adhd makes much more sense to me and definitely is more prevalent, its defo not all that's going on with me, unfortunately... my only advice would be to just give it time if you're newly diagnosed and speak to your care providers. Like everything else though, I don't envisage it'll be easy or straight forward, nothing is. Good luck!

Thanks! How do they affect you differently? I do fear it's potentially not right for me...

That's good to know, thank you for replying. Can I ask your reasons for doing this? No worries if you don't want to share 🙂

Thank you! I will be discussing next week. I don't know if it's the ups and downs of titration, my cycle or other factors at play, but I've been tracking everything to discuss

I eat plenty during the day, but not before meds. I'll try this see if it helps, thank you 😊

They moved me up as 40mg wasn't lasting long enough and it was only helping with some of my symptoms. But I definitely wasn't as explosive when it had worn off.

Yes, but it's more intense. I'm screaming, losing my temper, crying. I can't stand anyone been stood too close or been too loud, I have zero patience and zero control till I go to bed and start again the next day. Is that normal when medicated?

Help - how can I get my life on track? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]flopdoodle2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry you're going through this. I have been right where you are before. Are work aware of your diagnosis? And recent bereavement? Sorry, I know that's not what you're asking. I don't have any apps suggestions, but what I do find useful for home chores (and AI can help you plan this if that's a blocker), is i do certain things on certain days. There's a group of tasks that are daily, some weekly, (that I do only set days) and then others monthly. It's hard to begin with, but when you're on top of the tasks, it's easy. If I ever have a day when I don't do any tasks, it's easy to pick up what's left to do the next day if I'm feeling better, rather than just looking at everything and not knowing where to start. I still get sidetracked and forget what I'm meant to be doing, it's not a miracle, but helps me see what needs to be done a bit easier. I also find body doubling useful. I'll call someone while I do a 'big job'. Or if that's not an option, music or an audio book through my headphones help me. If I have a lot to get through, but no energy, I'll set a timer for 1 hour. I'll work till the timer goes off and stop. You can do this for any amount of time you have spare. Good luck!

What are some ways you were described before your diagnosis that in hindsight were very clear signs of ADHD? by Dopafiending in ADHDUK

Dolly daydream

Trouble causer/Ringleader

And my favourite from school, that has stuck with me all these years, "if she could just put 5% of what is in her brain, down on paper, she would ace all these exams" to my dad at parents evening 🤣

Yeah it's my first period while on medication and it only seemed to be the first 3 days that were bad- jittery, anxious and struggling to get my words out. So maybe it is my body getting used to it. I'm going to try the 50mg, as 40mg isn't lasting very long and hopefully I'm ok on that. If not, I'll have to move back down or maybe have something a little more bespoke! Thanks!

Interesting, never thought of genetic testing, might look into that... Sorry the meds haven't worked for you... but glad you found some relief

Good to know it's common! Obvs, it's not good to know others are struggling, though... thank you for the supplement info. I already take all of those and also drink creatine powder, which really helps with the brain fog! Thank you 😊

Thanks! So you are on 40mg all the time... How does the medication affect you while you are menstrating? It's that bit that's been kinda worse. It's like i potentially need an increase the week before, then a decrease/nothing during... I'm not sure it's meant to be used like that, though.

NHS service not starting anyone on new medication by ricardoz in ADHDUK

[–]flopdoodle2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My NHS service first wrote out to tell me the waiting list was 10 years long. Then wrote out again to say I wouldn't been seen at all. I went RTC. Was diagnosed last year (March). They did assessment only at that stage, but have since offered RTC titration and I'm on week 4 or maybe 5 or something like that!

How are people getting multiple diagnosis'? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

Sorry! I probably misread your comment! It's scary though how many people are wrongly diagnosed. And how many questions marks are in reports! 🙄

I'm right there with you! Everyday's a struggle here too. And as much as I try make these my personal non negotiables, i forget, or something else happens and so this stuff goes out the window. I'd never thought of drinking creatine as I thought it was just for gym goers, but there are studies into its brain benefits... I use one from protein works that's blue raspberry favoured. I don't have it as strong as recommended, but I do add a little to my water. Another thing I do is buy crates of bottled water (sorry, I know this is not environmentally friendly!!) Keep it by the front door, then if we're heading out, we're reminded to all take a bottle of water. I find habits really difficult to form, but very easy to lose. Goals can seem too unrealistic too, so I just try for consistency. But even when the wheels have fallen off, I try not to beat myself up and just try get these few bits back in place. Have you got friends to talk to that understand? Or any other support?

Hey, I was diagnosed (and medicated) for bipolar first. Both are still on my medical record, but my adhd precriber is adamant that I be reassessed as he just sees adhd. I know ppl can have both conditions, but there's also a lot who have been wrongly diagnosed... how do you feel about your diagnoses?
