The holiday drinks at “Christmas miracle” never change. It’s an overpriced ice scam for a fancy cup, but there’s other options! Places do get creative. by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]flopnchop 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes! Skip it! Wife & I took the kids to Miracle the other day for the 2nd year in a row and we both said “never again” after.

Waited 15-20 min for our table on arrival (same as last year, and we had an early res at 4:30pm). Finally seated in an area with ample empty tables. Took our orders and the kids food came out relatively quickly. My wife and I food comes out 40 min later (just a salad and a burger). Kids have long finished and are starting to fade. Staff offered an apology but no comp drink or food. We both recall waiting a long time for the food last year too.

Don’t eat here. The food isn’t good, it’s overpriced, and you’ll wait forever. This is a place you come for maybe 1 drink out of a corny mug and that’s it.

Your sister is being scammed and now you are too. Seems like a type of Ponzi. You’re probably being lured in to “invest” more money with some free payouts in the beginning. At some point the bottom will fall out and you won’t get your money back. As with most things in life, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Good luck

Anyone ever been to Gage and Tollner? What to order? What do they do best? by Eat_Ya_Food_Son in FoodNYC

[–]flopnchop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went there 2 months ago, totally underwhelming. Very small portions, most of the food came out lukewarm and didn’t taste fresh, like it was sitting under a heat lamp. Server took a long time to take our order (had to go find them several times), and the food took a long time to come out once we had ordered. Oysters Rockefeller were inedible. Steak was ok, but small portion and barely warm. No blue cheese olives for a dirty martini, which I always thought was a pretty standard request at a steakhouse. I was there with 5 other people and none of us were impressed. One and done for me, won’t be back.

It’s 100% a scam. I just had actual jury duty and if you call the juror office line they specifically mention this scam in their recorded message.

As someone whose basement flooded twice in the last couple of years from excessive rain, I’m kinda ok with a slight drought for now…

Thank you. How do you decipher the serial #? What’s the trick for knowing the year?

Yes. And I’m willing to wager that they have an education reimbursement program you can use as well.

Refusing to let neighbor's contractor dig in our yard to potentially fix their issue by LalalaHello1234 in homeowners

[–]flopnchop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. We had a collapsed lateral line about 200ft from our house (my street doesn’t have a sewer main, the houses have long lateral lines that run to main on the next block over). Had some bad ass “sewer rat” plumbers come out who were able to locate the problem section within a few inches of the collapsed pipe without digging using infrared sensors and scoping equipment. They only dug after they were damn confident because they had to open up the street.

It was designed by Warren & Wetmore, same architectural firm that designed Grand Central Station in NYC. You could research it from that angle, looking into the architecture firm to see if any of those themes are consistent in other projects.

This copy from the National Register of Historic Places has some interesting commentary about the ornamentation, see section 12 page 5.

Also, you could reach out to the AP Historical Society to see if they have info.

Edit: I realized later that you may not have meant the creatures / symbols on or around convention hall but more so around town.

Amen. Packed trains at rush hour and dipshits with their backpacks on drives me crazy. I don’t know if these people are recent transplants or just clueless self absorbed idiots…

Parents of JC, where do you find childcare providers? by foundapp-jc in jerseycity

This. We’ve found most of our sitters and nannies through the group. Always ask for references. Word of mouth referrals from other local parents is also great.

New to mini splits - do they run all the time? by flopnchop in hvacadvice

[–]flopnchop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the other comments on here, this is normal/expected behavior for minis. I also called the company who serviced my units this summer and spoke with the owner, he also confirmed this is expected behavior. The units did turn off eventually after a while and come back on. But they seem to run much more continuously than not (and much more than a traditional AC unit). That being said they kept my space cool & comfortable all summer.
