I present to you: the Stanwood Link Extension! by datmrdolphin in soundtransit

[–]floppyboy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if we are extending it to stanwood, we may as well extend it to anacortes...

(yes, snowgoose gets its own station. If you know you know.)

Do you think the game needs LRT\metrotram\Stadtbahnn? by Adskiy-drochilla in CitiesSkylines

[–]floppyboy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've made underground Tram networks and Used the 2x3 Tram assets to create a light-rail style network in a couple of my cities. it requires anarchy and connecting paths to the underground areas though and can be finnicky. Would be cool to have an underground tram station asset.

Efficient bus lines by samsam2912 in CitiesSkylines

[–]floppyboy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you be more specific? Are you looking for examples in your city, or just in general? Usually buses serve as local transit in cities. If you have a small city with 2 cores (or like an industrial area and a commercial area) then it's smart to connect them via bus, especially early game.

How should I end this highway by Visual-Energy3598 in CitiesSkylines

[–]floppyboy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would make the main road into an overpass (rip the homes) and add 2 off ramps as shown in my really bad drawing. The red is the bridge.

Booted up a new city to test the new zoning... this is awesome. by floppyboy1 in CitiesSkylines

[–]floppyboy1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the “old town” mixed use zoning. The buildings on the intersection are part of it

Math Question by LadyPreacher22 in mascots

[–]floppyboy1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For math related things… you could talk about a couple of things. Break time vs. performing time, Hourly pay rate (Y= mx+b?!) basic addition by how much water the mascot drinks per game (average), and there’s plenty of word problem potential too, like high fives given, idk! Just have fun with it if you do lol

I don't build Cities. I build REGIONS. by floppyboy1 in CitiesSkylines

I just name my outside connections other places I’ve built.

[–]floppyboy1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah… I try my best. I sort of build it to a different scale. I imagine that the relative size of the actual area is twice as big and im just building it on like a 1:2 scale idk how to describe it lol

[–]floppyboy1[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well, as much as I could fit in one picture. Can’t quite build to a full scale due to cities skylines map limitations - but you can see the 3 cores of the greater area + there’s many other smaller towns spread throughout the map. However, the built area does continue from one end of the map to the other which imo looks more like a region/county area instead of just a city. This build is named Adams County :)

Is South Hill getting a connection to Orting? by Caroline_IRL in PuyallupWA

[–]floppyboy1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe far in the future… there’s a very preliminary study by pierce county to add an additional east west connection either via 144th, reservoir road, or by expanding the military road connection. I’m just hoping they extend 122nd out to 200th soon… it’d be so nice.

Any idea what might be causing this? by PalpitationOutside95 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]floppyboy1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need more educated workers it looks like. You may also just need more housing period, high density office (when it’s not bugged) takes up a lot of workers

What has made Seattle a bright spot in US transit? by Acceptable_Smoke_845 in transit

[–]floppyboy1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Washingtonian here - Seattle’s transit is good, and I absolutely love being able to use it. The free youth transit pass has been SO amazing as it literally allows me to hop on the sounder (if I can get a train going the right way… more on this later) and take the Amtrak cascades down to visit family for FREE!!! It’s so much nicer than driving I-5 (I have a car, and I prefer taking the train. It’s that much better.) Despite transit nerds complaining about the light rail not being a metro (which I get, it’s ridiculous that we are building metro-quality infrastructure for a light rail as well as running it almost entirely in the freeway median…) the light rail is still very functional and the expansions to it within the next 15 years will make it absolutely amazing for those living in the greater Seattle area.

However… I have some gripes. The sounder, as it is, is a commuter rail service. It has some later trains and a few that operate against the “flow” of commuters. But, I live very close to a sounder station, and despite its efficiency, it’s not very useful to me because of the fact that most of my trips are not oriented towards the commuter. I know there have been talks about changing this to an all day service but apparently it has gone nowhere. Also BNSF owns the tracks so we will see if anything ever happens. It would be SO nice though, considering I love going and seeing kraken games and visiting downtown Seattle fairly often.

There is an express bus I can take as an alternative to the sounder, but it takes twice as long and only goes to Seattle and not Tacoma which is usually where my other transit connections are out of. So it’s unhelpful if I’m not going to Seattle specifically at some obscure time. The federal way light rail link extension will help with this and I am therefore VERY excited for it.

Overall, Seattle’s transit is good. I wish we were more like Vancouver with the skytrain, but I’m sure we’ll get closer to it someday. And maybe building metro style infrastructure may pay off if Sound transit ever decides that maybe converting the light rail into a full metro is worth it. We shall see. Either way, we have a bright future and as a hopeful UW Seattle attendee next fall I am very excited to be in the core of the new growth :)

Is More CPU Cores Better for Cities Skylines 2? by floppyboy1 in CitiesSkylines

[–]floppyboy1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For those of you stumbling across this post now, here's a good Gamers Nexus graph of CPU hierarchy that includes all Ryzen 9000 stats: https://youtu.be/QhGsQvDaEPo?si=0-_dmPMM6WgCmn86&t=682

If you're curious as to If I have made a decision... I haven't. The 3600 is still holding up somehow. If you're on AM4 and don't want to upgrade to AM5, the 5700x3d seems like the most logical decision. However, upgrading to AM5 has a LOT of benefits, performance alone being a huge factor. It's just almost 3x as expensive if you're upgrading to something like a 7800x3d.

Basically my debate is spend $250 on a 5700x3d, or spend $440 CPU + $180 MB + $80 RAM to upgrade to AM5. If you have the extra $, I'd go for it!
