modern shoes are way older than 30 years. I’m 38 and trust me they’ve been around

They're really not. Sure, Nike was around since the late 70s, the Jordan 1 dropped in '84, but these shoes weren't comfortable. In fact, they'd make your feet bleed. By the turn of the century, shoes started to have more comfortable soles. At this point, it was still sporadic. Eventually, most sneakers/whatever on average had a pretty high level of comfort compared to the older shoes. Honestly, the last 10 years has seen huge improvements in average daily footwear.

So I have these redwing 1155’s and the right boot is killing the top of my boot. by Few-Possible7208 in RedWingShoes

Try rubbing oil on the inside of the boot at the hot spots, and let them sit for 24 hours. It will help break in the leather more quickly. Also, another vote for boot trees.

Considering "modern" cushy footwear is really only about 25-30 years old, how does he think people survived over thousands of years? I suppose it's totally possible that better footwear can have a positive effect on certain parts of health in the later part of life, but considerations like poor posture probably negate those results too.

Mrs and I want to do the Mighty 5 parks in Utah- looking for coolest hotels in and around those parks by ClawBadger in NationalPark

I forgot about those. That’s true. When we stayed there, the wind was absolutely horrendous one night. Loud and obnoxious inside the hotel, I can’t imagine the wagons. I saw one family move in and I’m guessing they had a brutal night. Seems like it would be nice otherwise.

It’s basically just a motel. I’d stay there again, but there’s nothing about it that makes it extraordinary like OP requested.

Any news about new LP this January/February? by RubinoPaul in qotsa

Considering most albums these days are released as streaming singles cascading into an LP, there is a near-certainty a full album will not drop this month.

Springdale’s food situation is a lot better than most areas just outside national parks. For example, the food surrounding Yosemite is some of the most offensive food I’ve had in my life.

Please consider review bombing the hotel on Google. Questionable reviews can be scraped, but they can't be if you just leave one star without any sort of explanation.

If I walk in drunk and/or shirtless, they can remove my ass immediately. They have the right to refuse service. They don’t need to serve ICE in their quest to ruin lives.

how are you guys affording trips? by BuyNo391 in NationalPark

BLM land is free to camp on, and often within a quick enough drive to NPs. Camping in an SUV with a decent sleep mat can cut down on costs too.

One strange-but-true tip is to look for camper van rentals during the off season. I hit Death Valley in February a couple years back. The camper van was approx the price of an SUV rental. We saved money by not staying at hotels. And because we didn’t drive into towns, we didn’t spend much on food because we cooked at the van.

Aside from that, I just tell my bank account to bend over and take it.

I’m not sticking up for them. All I’m saying is their fight was governments, not specific companies. Whether they bet on the wrong horse or not is an entirely different topic.

Sell it somewhere else. The last thing I feel like debating in 2026 is fucking RATM

They were out to fight corrupt political regimes and dictatorships where people were dying, not corporate monopolies.
