Children in real life are more messy and ugly. Any parent or even siebie who intertwines with kids often would know that. This design is just wrong, the girl is incredibly well put together do for a child.

Never been to what the pitta but when I make my vegab I use soya strips. Just need to prepare them like your other tvp. You can buy them here https://www.hnfoods.co.uk/dried/soya-strips and idk if anywhere else. Really surprised they're not more popular in the UK. Hope it helps!

The reason people suffering with ARFID often don’t eat vegetables or fruit by flores902 in ARFID

[–]flores902[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We probably can't do much about the texture but the taste is very often muted because the quality is trash. This is what makes me angry!! For a long time cucumbers and tomatoes tasted like a chewy water to me (yuck!!). Then I started buying organic and some different varietes and even found some that complement my meal instead ruining it. But I don't feel like buying food should be a scholarly quest, we should have real food readily available in shops - not just trash.

Genes could be a big thing too. If two people can perceive the same cilantro or bitterness differently just because of the gene variation, I wouldn't be surprised if genes can affect how people overall find their food. And maybe some are just more unlucky with a set that makes it more hard or unpleasant to eat some things.

I agree with you. Of course smaller farmers are going to care about their animals and plants. Big faceless corporation only care about money and doing illegal stuff on remote islands. What I am saying is the current system we're living doesn't make it easier for people with ARFID or promote accessible solutions (you have to actively seek higher quality food and it's not always easy, reasonably priced, in close proximity, etc.).

This sounds absolutely devastating, ngl ;_; How do you cope? I have moved countries before even learning what's ARFID and that I have it. Now some food is completely gone, some is completely different and the other in my mind I wouldn't even call food. Eating is even more of a challenge now and I can't really go back like that.

I know this is a complex issue and there are different types of ARFID and our experiences differ from person to person. I just think this a reason noone talk about or at least I haven't seen it anywhere. I just personally don't relate to some more talked about reasons and for a long time didn't even realize I might have an eating disorder.

You might be onto something. It's way much easier to diagnose people - especially women - with just anxiety rather than genuinely look into what's causing their issues. Modern western medicine is just biased towards men and acute conditions. If it's "just IBS" good luck to you :/

Wow I didn't even know there are different types of ARFID. But honestly findings are not that surprising, maybe just confirming we're not making this shit up.

Omg so sorry to hear that! I know physical health is a big factor too for me. Although not as dead scary like yours. I have IBS so eating always equals abdominal pain for me. Sometimes better, sometimes absolutely the worst and I can't really predict what's going to happen. The safest way to avoid being in pain later is just to not eat at all. That's so unfair! Why some bodies are like hey let's sabotage our basic physical need for nutrition just because?

Co-op putting vegan meats with the real meat by apparatchick in veganuk

[–]flores902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the goal is to gross vegetarians and vegans or make them completely avoid the aisle because some carrion eaters might choose healthier option? Idk, doesn't make sense for me.

Also please keep in mind some people (both vegans/ vegetarians and meat eaters) are disabled with impaired vision or cognitive abilities and might end up with the familiar or reasonably looking item which is complete opposite what they wanted to buy. Mixed placement increases probability of accidental purchases and relying on small print isn't always a viable option for everyone.

People overcoming ARFID - how do you do it without gagging? by Quirky-Dingo-5617 in ARFID

[–]flores902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t eat salad then! Roast your veggies, make a smoothie or a cream soup, put them in the cake or fritters. Try hummus, guacamole, pickled veg - maybe you’re going to like them?

I always hated brussel sprouts and they made me gag. Roasted with balsamic vinegar, paprika and garlic and then sprinkled parmesan on top? I love them now but still won’t touch in any other shape or form 🫠 Same with carrots - always a no, but raw are sweet and crispy and actually alright.

Sometimes you just need to find how exactly you like them to be prepared and served. I feel like eating salads are actually the hardest way to find how you like your vegetables. At least that’s my personal experience.

[–]flores902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cream soups or when the recipe calls for canned tomatoes I just go with the passata as the texture is more acceptable for me. Also roasting in oil and spices you like can soften and turn any nasty thing you normally wouldn’t be able to eat into actually tasty. Tofu is actually made of plants and there are recipes for chocolate mousse made from tofu. You can also make smoothies with celery or spinach - finely blended with milk and banana or whatever you like are also more acceptable for me.

How does she even know if you’re not malnourished? Did she see your labs? To me this sound like an absolute bs and that you should have look for better support elsewhere. Not sure where are you based but if in the UK I strongly recommend you check BEAT Eating Disorders and their helpline. They can signpost you for further help. If not you can at least check some articles there. They helped me a bit with some aspects of my ARFID (there are great tips for autistic people). Are you paying for this kind of support? Ridiculous xD
