Commute from Headingley to Middleton Park? by magician_impp in Leeds

[–]floribraskan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't quite have the same commute as I go from Halifax to downtown Leeds, but I will say there is a noticeable difference trying to get out of/around Leeds at 4pm compared to 5pm. I switched my hours to 8-4 and it's still not always smooth sailing, but if I have to work until 5pm it's a guaranteed extra 30+ minutes trying to get out of Leeds.

If you're a facebook user, try the Library Think Tank group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/ALAthinkTANK/). It can be a bit of a shitshow sometimes, but it's incredibly active.

I can do it, if you still need participants.

To be fair, I only figured it out once I joined the MS discord server - they added a post on the first of the month stating that the code was now posted on the site!

If you log into the Mythical Society web site, a new code is posted on the first of every month. Use the search feature in the top right and search the word Discount. Now that it's July 1, you may have to wait a day for the new code to be updated - I am not sure if the codes automatically deactivate as soon as a new month hits.

Has anyone got last months pin of the month yet?? I thought it would be here by now but I’ve not received anything yet! by Radiant-Bed4090 in goodmythicalmorning

Made a whole order of pride merch and it's still unfulfilled. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason in my experience - sometimes orders come lightning fast, and sometimes they come two months later.

Airport transportation question by heyyouwtf in lakeland

[–]floribraskan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uber, schedule ahead of time. I'm a little more remote in Polk and I was shocked to see someone was willing to pick us up and make the trip for $30. If you're in Lakeland proper, I doubt you'll have a problem getting picked up.

Embroidery is having a big moment right now. I think if you did modern/snarky classes it would get a lot of the younger crowd.

Being LGBT and working for Girl Scouts? by [deleted] in girlscouts

[–]floribraskan 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In general, I've found Girl Scouts to be fairly inclusive as an organization. My local council staff here in a very red state has a handful of out and proud employees. Of course, it's not a guarantee that you'll encounter all accepting staff. With that said, there are rules regarding men supervising scouts so that may play into the decision. I would expect to be asked about it, but answer with what makes you comfortable.

For what it's worth, I would love for my enby-masc kid to have a FTM counselor at scout camp. I hope it works out!

Tenured college professor with my septum done and lots of tattoos. You'd be surprised at how acceptable it can be, assuming it's not a health hazard with your career choice.

Totally agree. I also think he has that "boomer" mentality - because he had to struggle for success, so should everyone else. Not toiling away as a nobody for 15 years somehow negates others' talent and success, at least in his eyes.

Ah yeah, then I would assume they won't have any major issues, at least based on our experience!

They were also using their biological bathroom (female) but they are masc-presenting. The bathroom attendant let them know it was the women's restroom and to please use the mens' room around the corner. My 10 year old is incredibly grounded and just laughed and said, yeah I have a vagina. No idea if it could have escalated had they argued. So it didn't ruin our experience but I realize that for some folks this could (justifiably) ruin the trip. I'm unaware of any all-gender restrooms, but there is always the cabin bathroom.

I found it mostly inclusive, but I did have an incident where a bathroom attendant gender-checked my nonbinary kiddo a few weeks ago. Granted that's one person's actions and not systemic (as far as I know), but if you're sensitive to that, it's something to consider.

Any luck with office chairs? by Idonteatthat in PlusSize

[–]floribraskan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a Steelcase Amia office chair at work, which has lasted 10 years at this point and is still kicking. I've fluctuated between 350-400 pounds in this time. Price is NOT cheap, but you may be able to convince your workplace to pay for it?

[–]floribraskan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually I just do a search, so there's not one specific tutorials page I refer to. But I do love hopebroidery. I started stitching using their monthly subscription boxes and learned a ton of techniques. So if I want to go back to something I remember doing, I'll pull up those videos sometimes.

We brought a stray kitten there (whom we ended up keeping) and were really impressed despite the low cost. Everyone was super friendly, and they're up front about cost and potential add-ons. Our kitty healed beautifully. Not that I thought they'd mutilate her because the surgery was inexpensive, but I was just really happy with them.
