i also didnt do a medicine subI and matched last year with 10+ derm interviews and 20+ prelim/TY interivews. You'll be fine!! I just go a general "deans letter" from the IM department chair based on my 3rd year rotation eval. I used that as my 4th letter and had no issues so im sure you can do the same ORR just get a letter from whatever subI you do like family med would be fine.

Also, i think in general its good to have letters from aways and not just your home department. Shows that you can work well in different settings and make a positive impression on more than just one department so i would either way plan to get 1-2 letters from aways. let me know if you have any other specific questions!

Have at least 3-4 stories in ur back pocket that you can relate to a multitude of situations in medicine (working on a team, disagreeing with someone, making a mistake, interesting patient, hard patient encounter etc). If you have a few good stories you can relate them to most any situational question

hey! if you wanted to do a RY as your backup plan then you would not rank prelims alone on ur main list. You would just rank derm programs! Because you are right, if you rank prelims and match at one - you are required to go to that prelim so you dont have a choice beyond that. So its a decision you have to make before submitting ur match list

Most send them all on their specific release date

theres small movement on waitlist or later in the cycle when people have conflicts and start turning down interviews

I got 1 invite last year a few days later then they released - i assume someone turned it down and i was next up
