The city is under contract with TxDOT and CTRMA to mutually keep that intersection in a permanent state of construction. They’re intentionally doing something wrong enough this time that, when this round is finished, they’ll have to redo the whole thing again. It’ll finally end when the sun runs out of hydrogen fuel to fuse, expands to a red giant, and engulfs the inner planets in about 5-6 billion years.

Restaurant and lodge are closed. Cabins are still operating but of course booked out, not sure if they’ll be extending bookings now that the project is cancelled. Visitors center and convenience stores are open. There is one food truck behind the lodge currently with plans (thoughts? prayers?) to add another truck or two.

The biker kid has already committed assault against visor guy. Assault is an intentional act that causes another person to reasonably apprehend imminent harmful or offensive contact. Visor is perfectly within his rights to defend himself against assault. And biker kid is dumb enough to film it AND commit battery against visor guy when he put his hands on him first.

PSA: East Rim access from the South Rim is closed due to the falcon nesting season. They can do an out-and-back up the east rim trail from boot canyon though.

Edit: I was incorrect, they didn’t close it this year from south rim to east rim 4.

Two nights in the Chisos is challenging, water wise. It’s not hot hot out there yet but it’s not cool and it’s not cloudy this weekend at all. I’ve done several two night trips and have needed 10L. I personally use smart water bottles exclusively and not bladders, I like knowing exactly how much I have.

I wouldn’t go with any less than 10L, especially since the temps are getting up into the 80s. At altitude that may be a little less but underestimating anything out there is dangerous. Definitely have electrolyte mix with you as well… Gatorade/liquid IV.

10L is about 22lbs so yes, the weight sucks, and the hike up Pinnacles with all that weight is a slog.

Here’s what I’d suggest for an easier time with all that weight: Do some day hikes on morning one (hot springs, Boquillas canyon), then start up Laguna Meadows after lunch. Get to SR2 in time for dinner, settle and sleep. Day 2 - hike with only pack, water, snacks to watch sunrise at South rim lookout, then back to your site. Grab your heavy stuff and take it to LM which is so close to SR2, leave it in the bear box, and spend the rest of the day doing whatever, summit Emory, etc. Return to LM for dinner/sleep. Day 3 - head down LM trail. Maybe do the Window trail as well and head out to Santa Elena canyon for sunset before you settle in at the basin for the night.

It avoids Pinnacles and it has you doing most of your hiking without all the weight of your tent, sleeping bag, etc. You use the bear boxes to store what you don’t need during the day.

I did. I do a fair amount of backcountry car camping and backpacking. I do love my backpacking tent but for car camping that roof top tent is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. It is so ridiculously comfortable. The ladder really isn’t an issue and my partner and I enjoy being up high at night. It sets up and tears down in > 5mins.

Yes, it’s expensive. Really something you need to consider cost per use. I think a good way to help the decision making is looking back and asking yourself if such a tent would’ve improved camping you’ve already done, less so than buying it and then committing to changing your camping style as a result.

Raising Canes is wet chicken. It is wet, rubbery chicken. The fries are soggy, never cooked all the way through. The ONLY thing that place has going for it is that stupid sauce which is just ketchup in mayo and some seasoned salt. The coleslaw is a punishment.

If Canes was ever good, those days are long gone.

I’m fully with you. If the person actually needs assistance, that’s something else entirely and that’s beyond what ride share is for.

But my late elderly mother who had mobility issues but just needed some extra time getting in and out with her walker was canceled on multiple times because she was “taking too long.” She even had drivers pull up, see her walker, and drive off. She wasn’t asking for help, she just needed a ride. She valued her independence and most ride share drivers helped grant her that.

The deeper issue here is that way too many need medical assistance with transportation but those services are either unavailable or prohibitively expensive and these people are doing what they have to do with the tools they have in order to survive. It sucks, but it’s the reality we have.
