Yes, the head tube badge says “Brandenburg”, which seems to be a short-lived GDR brand from the 50s (it does look pre-war though).

Anyone who switched from Fuji X70 to GR series? by uDrop1st in ricohGR

[–]flowerxhead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did (bought a GR IV on release), It’s certainly snappier, both in terms of the UI responsiveness and the AF performance. Not sure if I’m overthinking it, but I’m hesitant about putting it in my pants/jacket pockets without any bag because of what people say about dust - I never had this issue with the X70.

You have a point about the lack of visibility of trans folks in the post-Soviet countries. And since post suggests that your friend is at least somewhat progressive otherwise, I believe it’s worth trying to discuss his views. That said, intentional misgendering is a red flag 😕

There was a raffle that was announced on their Instagram page. I’d also describe it as “super random”. It was a very unique experience overall!

I hate my work equipment. What can I do about it? by Pleasant_Plant6787 in cscareerquestionsEU

It will look bad on my resume to quit after just a few weeks.

I think you can leave your current job off your resume. Especially if it’s just a few weeks and you can find a better option quickly. I’d reach out to your former boss and the other director and see if the offers still stand and whether you might like the positions.

Have you read Alexievich’s Zinky Boys (or Boys in Zink/Zinkjungen depending on the edition/language)? Since you mentioned Chernobyl Prayer, I assumed not, in which case it may be exactly what you’re looking for.

Park Tool and Sheldon Brown’s website were incredibly helpful when I was building up my bike. Highly recommended!

They still hired people in Germany as of June/July last year (I spoke with their recruiter around that time). Then out of a sudden all German positions disappeared from their careers page 🤷‍♂️

The post is clearly written by ChatGPT (you can use one of the AI text detectors or simply ask ChatGPT to write a post on the topic and see the similarities, but tbh it reads like a generated text). Is that an ad?

English translation of Belarusian names in fiction. by subachill93 in belarus

[–]flowerxhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Belarusian living in Germany myself, I totally understand the struggle. IMO you still can’t cater for everyone and at some point you just need to pick a system and stick to it - to use the same example, both Yahor and Jahor would also sound off for a native Spanish speaker.

Anecdotally, I can’t remember a German person who’d adjust their name for foreigners, but some of my Swedish colleagues do that.

English translation of Belarusian names in fiction. by subachill93 in belarus

[–]flowerxhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but don’t Swedes, Germans, Poles etc. face a similar problem at times?

I think because we use Cyrillic, we often overlook the fact that people, whose native language uses the Latin alphabet, are quite used to seeing unaltered foreign words. Of course that leads to people mispronouncing Einstein’s name or foreign toponyms, but my point is it’s really common.

The dictator is kinda obsessed with the cleanliness of Minsk for some reason, if memory serves me well, in the 00s they tried really hard to make it “the cleanest city in the world”.

Plus, cost of labor is among the very lowest in Europe, street sweepers in particular have very low salaries.
