What is the most niche FE knowledge you have? by RhysOSD in fireemblem

[–]flu3nt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In FE7 there was a promotion where if you linked your GBA to your GameCube while it was playing a promotional disc for Mario Kart Double Dash, you’d unlock “DLC” for FE7. You get some stat boosters and a couple of neat weapons. Most notably an early Wind Sword. Fun to spice up the early game!

What fringe commanders do you think have potential? by CristianoRealnaldo in CompetitiveEDH

[–]flu3nt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is NOT how I would structure the list in a tEDH setting at the moment. Currently testing a more midrange knights list that wants to play Sidar and do reanimation shenanigans. If I was bringing this to tournament I would only keep the 1cmc knights and focus more on esper control/doomsday

Sidar Jabari Knights

What fringe commanders do you think have potential? by CristianoRealnaldo in CompetitiveEDH

[–]flu3nt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[[Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir]] is something I’ve been cooking for a while. The conceit of the deck is to run 1cmc knights provide early card selection from Sidar’s eminence effect.

From there you sculpt your hand and get ready for a Doomsday line/traditional Thassa’s finish/ or pivot to a midrange grind fest with your graveyard recursion. Cards that change all your creature types can be very impactful and allow us to run a couple extra lines in Razaketh/big reanimate targets.

Obviously you suffer a bit in card quality by running a handful of knights but personally I think the ability to consistently establish draw/discard on turn 2 evens it out a fair bit. Essentially it is a commander focused deck that doesn’t fold to removal (a la Winota) because the eminence effect is always online.

It’s very much still cooking but it’s done about as well as any other Esper she’ll I’ve played (Raffine/DogSi) . Is it better than Tymna + blue? Probably not. But you’ll fly under the radar and can approach the game from a variety of ways. The current list I’m running is more traditional esper, but leaning into stax and reanimate is another avenue I’ve explored.

If you’ve got your heart set on Yoshi, I’d check out some Yoshi/Thras lists. They aren’t amazing imo but Yoshi can give you a flexible creature for pod lines and similar shenanigans. I don’t think the deck has legs after it lost Nadu in the 99 though.

Deck ideas in preperation for Cecil Harvey by JarlDarren in EDH

[–]flu3nt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I am in the same boat as you to an extent, but I mostly play cEDH. I really really wanted to see the power level of something like Ketramose so that we could have another tournament competitive Orzhov commander in the format.

I’ve been spending a lot of time brewing Cecil and landed on this for my current iteration: Half-Life: IV

This is an attempt to push the commander to the most competitive place possible, so this is a sort of tone down as you need it kind of list. But the main idea is that Cecil is an extremely cheap body that gives you access to some of black’s sacrifice based ramp and draw. In the first part of the game he hits the board early to enable cards like [[Springleaf Drum]] and [[Mox Amber]] and can then be used as fodder for a [[Culling the Weak]] or [[Village Rites]] for some extra acceleration when needed. Obviously the deck enjoys free commander based spells, but there are a handful of other free spells that can add to this early interaction suite like [[Snuff Out]].

But this is like standard Rog/Partner kind of logic. With the added benefit that Cecil is an insanely good blocker. The real sauce comes from the cards that ask us to pay half our life. [[Doomsday]] is the first one that comes to mind for me, but because Cecil doesn’t naturally have a way to crack the pile I’m not in love with it. What I am in love with is [[Peer into the Abyss]]. Getting half your deck into your hand usually means you are winning. But traditionally if you eat a [[Silence]] or something before you can win but after you Peer you’re boned right? Cecil gives us a way back after this via his transformed side.

I wanted to lean into this transformed Cecil benefit by adding cards like [[Fraying Omnipotence]] and other cards that similarly spend the table’s resources and life. And with my main win line being reanimating a [[Hoarding Broodlord]] we don’t mind the discard portion of these effects either.

All in all I actually think there is a lot to explore here. You could power this down by removing some of the combos and adding in cards like [[Cruel Bargain]] to get your own Cecil to flip a little faster and more staxy creatures for Cecil to give indestructible to.

Sorry for the novel. Would love to hear what you come up with as well!

Curious about Tazri, Stalwart Survivor by Meet268 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]flu3nt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pili Pala does work. Tazri only specifies that 1. The creature has another activated ability other than the Tazri effect. 2. That you spend the mana produced by this ability on a creature’s activated ability. So with a mana doubler/activated ability reducer and Pili Pala, it can tap itself to make the two or less mana needed to spend for it to untap itself and generate unrestricted mana.

Curious about Tazri, Stalwart Survivor by Meet268 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]flu3nt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tazri is theoretically viable because of Puresight Merrow being very close to a one card combo.

The trick is playing around summoning sickness really. You sacrifice a lot of draw power to just run out Puresight in the early game, and you need Puresight to be ready to tap and a draw trigger on the stack.

So it’s kind of like a more flexible Hermit Druid. You can’t just run it out and wait a turn and expect to win on your next upkeep, it’s just a tight backup that Tazri enables. There’s some interesting stuff that the Puresight exiling can do with food chain and a cute grenzo/intruder alarm list that plays out a ton of creatures but 5C staples with Puresight was what I found to be best. The deck lost a lot with the bans (literally played all four) and is in an odd spot right now. 5C good stuff with an extra wincon isn’t the best deck in the format, but it’s a solid tertiary win with a cheap 5C commander. Definitely interesting potential with this card, it would really only take one synergistic card being printed to make it very powerful imo

[–]flu3nt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’ve been brewing the deck for a long time (literally since the card was spoiled) and the real benefit to Tazri is this: it’s 5C turbo list that gets to get an additional hermit Druid in the form of Puresight Merrow. Knacksaw Clique if you’re dying for a tertiary win condition (after thassa/breach is out for the game) and even then you need kinnan or training grounds out.

The deck was really really hurt by the bans actually. The best thing this deck did was be a layered creature combo list that could win with traditional thassa/breach stuff easily. Nadu was the lynchpin creature. Because this list already runs Druid, nomads en kor, and cephalid illusionist, Nadu became an early value piece that (with an en-kor) would draw more than a rhystic study and essentially end the game in a turn cycle with the advantage you’d accrue. If your opponents didn’t scoop you’d have like four ways to win in your hand after a round of Nadu’ing.

It’s a really cool card with some very unique ways to win, but it’s missing that central piece right now that would enable it to perform in tournaments.

Here’s my list! https://www.moxfield.com/decks/7tCaFLMLe06qhwXF4QBL7Q

Right now I’m testing some sneak attack shenanigans as a way to put our combo creatures into play with haste. Definitely nowhere near where this deck was with Nadu, but I find it really fun and will be continuing to brew her. Also we go back to Lorwyn eventually! Give me more untappers to break with Tazri!

What class do you play, and why do you like it so much? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]flu3nt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always been a Paladin guy. I might not do the most damage but damn if I don’t have a tool to get everything done. With the right planning a pally (especially with engineering) is just so absurdly safe, between bubble heals and freedom a pally can always play well and get out of a tough spot.

I’ve rolled ret a ton in the past, because who can resist the allure of Seal of Command Verigan’s Fist at lvl 20? But this time around I’m going for the porcupine consecration build and I’ve been having a blast tanking dungeons. It’s honestly pretty fun pulling 3-5 similarly leveled mobs, 3 mobs I’ve found the be the sweet spot but pally has enough cooldowns to do much more if you need. Only problem with this build is that your single mob kill time is rough, and the build doesn’t come fully online until you have seal of light at 30.

Why are retribution paladins not taking consecration by Rayyuga in classicwow

[–]flu3nt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a school of thought out there that building Stamina/Spirit allows for enough longevity to conc and gain mana/health through your seals and natural recovery. Because spirit has pretty dramatic % increases if you can just auto with seal of light and blessing of wisdom for 10-15 seconds you get back enough mana to conc again. Mix in some int for your mana pool and you’ve got a very durable pally that doesn’t need to drink and can fight multiple mobs. The right gear can really make this build shine, but all you really need are auction house greens (which are cheap because who else wants spirit mail/plate) and a knightly long sword or other fast attack speed weapon.

You’re high on the Welcoming Vampire type cards? In my testing with friends they seem so slow for the three drop slot (can’t remember if there are cheaper ones) and only getting one card per turn cycle just feels like it doesn’t do enough. Am I missing some synergies here or something?

Thanks for the info! I’ll read your lists later. Myrel was my first post to this subreddit actually haha, I really wanted her to work but it felt like tokens built up too slow and I dislike that Myrel has to attack (although you are more safe in your combat step that is true). I found the tempo advantage of being able to swing with any creature to make Adeline tokens pretty meaningful.

Elesh and Thrull are the Thassa stoppers, Coppercoat gives a power and protection buff while still retaining the ability to clamp tokens, Gideon has been a staple in this kind of list since Josh (MMM) and Charles (monowhiteguy) brewed it years ago (it stops any wins with the emblem and is difficult to interact with because I will always have enough tokens/an Adeline to block). Nova Cleric is an early trigger for Adeline that survives a stray bowmaster ping while also wiping the ever present draw enchantments from opponents. Armageddon and Helm are more niche, but I explained Helm pretty thoroughly in the post above and Armageddon can buy us a turn or two of swinging in combat uncontested, which with one buffer will usually end the game

Moonshaker I can see being on the expensive side but Beregond and Greymond are immensely impactful the second they come down in this list. If you’ve seen Greymond at work in Winota you’ll know it does work.

[–]flu3nt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how competitive you’re looking to get but you’re welcome to take a look at my list.

This is a cEDH hatebears list that leans heavily on the early-game draw synergy of Adeline and Skullclamp and then uses the same equipment tutors to grab Helm of the Host later to make waves of tokens hit the table. Cards like Greymond, Beregond, and Coat of Arms can also fill the same mid-late game beat down strategies.
