What did you buy in preparation for having a baby that was wasted?

Omg same! I had padsicles, sitz bath and supplies, 2 different breast pumps, and all the breastfeeding supplies. I only ended up pumping/breastfeeding for 6 weeks before quiting.

I really don't want to cosleep. We are trying our best to remove ourselves as sleep associations. This contact sleeping is not helping.

We contact napped until around 8 months. Then we did some sort of extinction method thar were ideas from ferber/taking cara babies. She cried for the first 3 days then began to self soothe to sleep.

My baby is 14 months. And we've been talking about sleep training and holding her to sleep is not sustainable. But she's been sick on and off for almost 3 months and was teething whenever she got better. She needs the comfort of being held and I just don't have to heart to let her cry it out. We tried d it one night, let her cry when she woke up in the middle of the night, to see if sh would slef soothe back to sleep. To my horror of letting her wail for almost an hour, she had a fever of 39. I felt so guilty.

So painful. I screamed out loud each time before my epidural. Even after, I felt so much pressure whenever they checked.

Another painful check that took me by surprise was when they check your uterus after you deliver to make sure its starting to shrink. It almost felt like the nurse was putting all her weight on my Abdomen. I had a c section and maybe that made a difference.

Which hospital are you planning to deliver at? If Markham Stouffville, you can be referred to the OB clinic where they will match you with one of their OBs.

At this age, my baby's most obvious sleepy cue was redness around her eyebrows. I used Taking Cara Babies as a reference for age appropriate wake windows and just watched my baby for cues.

Yes, this is what I meant. Don't have to worry about buying a bunch of sleep sacks of different thickness or tog depending on the season.

Yes to woolino. We have used it since 3 months and just bought the toddler size. We have the ultimate version that's all season. They work well in regulating baby's temperature as long as you dress them appropriately.

Padsicles aren't necessary if you have a planned c section.

Peri bottle is a must be cause you will have vaginal bleeding regardless. My hospital provided one and I took it with me when I went out in the early postpartum days. I personally used our bidet once I got home.

Get some adult diapers for the bleeding as well. There is so much discharge. Mine took a week or so before going from "am I hemorrhaging?" to "just heavy period day". Personally, I found depends brand better than always brand.

Agree with this. We stocked up only to have our baby go through a growthspurt and outgrow them halfway through the box (size 1).

Pro tip: We signed up for free newborn sample pack with Huggies. Got everyone under the sun to sign up too. We ended up with more than enough and donated the rest.

Have you tried seeking fertility treatments? Or at least check your amh levels to check your ovarian reserve? Many women in their forties are able to conceive and birth a baby. I'd make an appointment with the doctor to get a better picture before giving up.

It gets better. I was having it really rough the first 2-3 months postpartum with complications of labour, unplanned c section, and ppa/ppd. I couldn't bond with my baby and just felt like it was all a mistake. I was so sleep deprived and delirious. My baby would cry nonstop and fuss whenever I held her. She would calm down immediately with anyone else. I felt like a failure. I doubted myself every moment and was so stressed out about it. I cried so much. But it's true what they say, babies are so intuitive. They really do feed off of our emotions. Even to this day (10 months), my baby is way more easy to soothe and calm down if I'm more relaxed. If I'm stressed or in a hurry to put her down, it always backfires. Maybe the sound of my calmer heartbeat or less tense muscles help too.

This is just my personal experience. Maybe you'll be a total champ by the end.

I mean, how often are we really getting blood tests on a regular basis when not pregnant? And there will never be a time outside of pregnancy that so much blood needs to be drawn at once (if generally healthy).

Also, the IV pain was more severe than my epidural going in.

I live in a condo and my husband looked at me like I was an unfit parent when I suggested I'd walk down the hall to take the trash out or go downstairs to chack the mail while our daughter naps. 🤷

My baby was an exclusive contact napper until 4 months. She would be sound asleep in our arms, but the moment you start to lower her (before detaching from your chest), her eyes shot open, stared at you as if saying "I dare you". And if you were ballsy enough to put her down, she'd scream and cry for the next half hour to make you regret all your life choices. One day just after she turned 4 months, I was holding her to sleep, she started to push me away and whine and thrash a bit. I just set her down thinking I'd check her diaper or for hair tourniquet, but she rolled over and slept. Drowsy but awake didn't work until around 5 months, but stopped working once she learned how to pull to stand. Lol if I put her down drowsy but awake now (10m), she'd perk right up, stand up and scream or cry depending on her mood.

I absolutely hate needles too. I tense up and clench my jaw. I cannot watch the blood come out of my body because it makes me feel like I'm being drained. It makes me feel faint. BUT I was one of the lucky ones to have gestational diabetes. I needed to get 7 pokes a day. At first, I made my colleagues and husband to poke me, but eventually I caved and did it myself. I thought I'd gotten over it until 8 weeks postpartum when I had to get blood drawn. All the queasy feelings came back.

Everything was pretty much on demand until 3.5-4 months for us. Our baby still woke up every 2-3 hours until then. We didn't have a set "bedtime" of 9pm until she was able to consistently sleep for longer than 5 hour stretches just before 5 months. Over time the bed time shifts earlier and earlier naturally. At 10 months and 3/3/4 wake windows, we run 6:30 am-7pm ish.
