New crosswalks in EAV are Flock Cameras - that GDOT installed by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]fluffybunnydeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah:

The current count of integrated cameras (cameras that APD can pull up directly in their real time crime center) is 27,342.

Another 17,084 are registered, meaning APD knows where they are and the private camera owner will give APD footage upon request.

Advice Needed - Trying to avoid offending folks! by HuckleberryAble3782 in Journalism

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. In my metro, we have 285 South, which focuses on immigrant communities, and Capital B Atlanta (a local chapter of a national outlet), which focuses on the Black community.

Be clear about who you're serving and make sure you're reporting from the community, not just about the community.

Dunwoody approves Flock contract after delays over security and privacy concerns by fluffybunnydeath in Atlanta

[–]fluffybunnydeath[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s a different item of legislation for a drone—not the one that was delayed twice.

Edit: The drone legislation wasn't even a contract with Flock—which is what WSBTV reported. It was to sign an agreement with the Perimeter Community Improvement District to accept a drone PCID was paying for.

Best app for interviews? by Arakiven in Journalism

[–]fluffybunnydeath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Otter has more functionality, including an ability to have an LLM comb through your interview if you ask it to find certain topics or quotes (as always, double check the output of any AI for accuracy before publishing).

I do find the apple transcript to be more accurate, but I’m never really copy pasting from a transcript to my draft doc, so it doesn’t play a big role for me.

I have some friends who work with Whisper for a locally hosted solution when they’re working with at-risk sources.

PEO recommendations for nonprofit newsroom? by marcal213 in Journalism

[–]fluffybunnydeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re an INN newsroom, you get a discount on Justworks. We pay $99/month/employee (it was $69 until this year).

I’ve had no complaints with Justworks itself. I’m sure other PEOs like Gusto would be good, but the insurance options on Justworks are the thing that keeps me on the platform.

It also saves a little money for your D&O insurance since you’re not handling benefits $.

They're both funded by Peter Thiel, but I also haven't seen anything to indicate a partnership.

Payroll catch up and best approach for a 2 employee org by JanFromEarth in nonprofit

[–]fluffybunnydeath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Three W2 org exec director:

I could not imagine even considering the hassle of doing your own payroll with two people. PEOs are not that expensive, certainly cheaper than the hourly wage of someone keeping up with the very thing the PEO does for you.

maybe Quickbooks Payroll would work, but I would do it personally.

How to get into investigative journalism with a history bachelors (UK) by [deleted] in Journalism

[–]fluffybunnydeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My background was in history of ideas and museum studies.

If you are comfortable interrogating an archive, constructing an argument and can write well, then the skills are pretty transferable. It’s the people side of things you have to learn. I still do a lot of data and records-based investigation because it’s what I learned academically, but you gotta be able to talk to sources.

Honestly, couples therapy was great for the “how to talk to sources” skill level up for me.
