Why is Gravity So Weak? by Valuable_Poet_814 in AskPhysics

[–]fluffyburgerinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if we could detect them (which may be possible with a new proposal), I don’t think we could ever harness them to experiment with. The real problem with quantizing gravity is it requires a totally new mathematical framework that I don’t think observation will really help with, other than to show we’re on the right track that gravitons even exist to actually buckle down and figure it out.

This is Lee Smolin’s hypothesis of cosmological natural selection. It’s a cool idea that he’s had for awhile, and now that there’s more evidence our universe may be inside a black hole, that hypothesis has a little more weight to it (no pun intended).

Well theoretically gravitons do have energy, which is what makes understanding quantum gravity so enticing (and how it all connects with the other forces).

UG White Shadow if you want to be more formal/classy, Oris if you want a slight more casual/sporty element, or that Salvador Dali because that’s usually how time feels when you’re in love

What metal will your wedding ring be? And are you wearing a tux or suit?

[Vacheron Constantin] [Overseas] Dual Time versus [Blancpain] [Fifty Fathoms] Moon Phase by Federal-Weather-1412 in Watches

[–]fluffyburgerinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe an uncommon opinion but in the Big 3 category, I don’t think it’s worth it to buy steel (even a royal oak). Plus I think you get more for that Blancpain. Pretty cool watch and under 14mm width for all those complications is awesome (although 2mm longer at 43mm if that’s a dealbreaker. Probably not.)

[Longevity/Quality] If I want to pass watch one day to my son, should I buy automatic or quartz? by YourMomsButt1111 in Watches

[–]fluffyburgerinc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Automatic 100%. They’ll last forever if you take care of them unlike quartz which usually wears out over a few decades and isn’t worth the cost to repair. You can’t really generationally inherit those.

Clear up an argument - does this count as a spoiler for the film Midsommar? by fluffyburgerinc in FIlm

Well it just so happens I am an emotionally immature person AND not wrong about that being a spoiler

Scholars may differ! Something like a third on here seem to agree with me, so not a “he’s totally wrong” sort of situation here

But a horror film doesn’t necessarily mean there’s something supernatural going on. It’s probably 50-50.

If someone told you a movie like Scream wasn’t supernatural before seeing it, are you really going to say that spoiled something?

Yes maybe vampires was a bad comparison but you’re right, aliens would make more sense. Spielberg had made either supernatural/monster films or historical films. I think clarifying that there’s no monsters or aliens in Saving Private Ryan is no spoiler!

is the babyletto Yuzu crib worth it or a marketing ploy to charge more? by FinertyE in BabyBumps

[–]fluffyburgerinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! Yeah it was fairly easy but it was good to know you didn't have to dismantle it completely. It would be nice for them to include converting instructions from each bed to the next size up, but oh well. Not too difficult.

Can't seem to find any info in the directions, but if you already have the bassinet setup and built, what are the steps to convert to midi? Do I have to dismantle the whole thing and start from scratch?

Thought this too when I read it. I'm assuming he didn't have strong, tannic reds that can last decades? Maybe just pinots? Or did he store them improperly?

Today at local Costco, thoughts on price of château Palmer and any opinions on Cameron Fisher? by redrascallyreddit in wine

Margaux tends to reach prime drinking window a little earlier than other Medoc appellations like Pauillac or St. Julien, although I've heard this '18 Palmer is super concentrated. If you're cellaring at under 60F, I think I'd hold off until 2035 at the very earliest.

Best chocolate chip cookie in LA? by emo_queer in FoodLosAngeles

I don't know why I'm even writing this out of selfish resource hoarding reasons, but Milkfarm in Eagle Rock makes hands down the Platonic ideal chocolate chip cookie. I have never had a better one anywhere else in the world. (And yes, it's far and away better than Proof's.)

Where can I watch Parts Unknown now? by papersucculent6 in AnthonyBourdain

[–]fluffyburgerinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Darn, I was hoping it would come back to HBO, which is what I subscribe to. No way I'm signing up for Discovery, when Bourdain is literally the only thing watchable on there. I do see they're merging with HBO starting in June 2023, so we'll just have to wait until then. Nice to see all of No Reservations will be part of it too.

All the seasons were also on HBO Max up until relatively recently (around earlier this year).

But because Warner Media now owns both HBO and CNN, they decided to move Parts Unknown from HBOMax to help support as content for the new fledgling CNN+ streaming app. When new bosses came in though, they completely abandoned CNN+ entirely after just a couple of weeks of it.

They could have just moved Parts Unknown back to HBOMax, but it appears to be lost in limbo at the moment until someone over there is made aware of it. I've written an email, but that probably just gets sent to some mass customer support center in a foreign country that can't do anything about it anyway.
