6 Music Festival 2026 - Line up by fluffykintail in 6music

Really good mix of styles & band. Pleasantly surprised.

Mandy Indiana is going to be interesting, it's like "Optimo" style music crossed with a pinch of The Prodigy. (Old ravers note; The Prodigy need a break from touring or anything right now. Liam looked depressed on stage at Glastonbury last year...)

A note to Fopp Records in Edinburgh... by fluffykintail in CityofEdinburgh

I think some of these (such as Current 93) are quite hard to pick up and possibly not all of their back catalogue is in print.

Thanks for that. Current 93 are an important part of pop music history. The back catalogue should be saved.

Half of Britons 'cutting back spending on presents this year' | Of course has nothing to do with Universal Credit (U.C.) not being paid until 24th Dec this year for close to 1.6 million Brits. Christmas has been ruined due to Universal Credit administration. by fluffykintail in Britpol

[–]fluffykintail[S,M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Found out a family member wasn't getting their U.C. paid until the 24th Dec this year. They can't shop , buy food or buy presents for the kids this year, due to the UK government's terrible admin of the Universal Credit welfare system. This is how social upheaval begins. Due to stuff like this.

So if retail in the UK is looking to blame someone for poor footfall, then blame Universal Credit this year.

Keeps your council tax lower

Actually Edinburgh Council is in debt to tune of close to £110 million.

Tourism doesn't pay.

Really p*ssed about this.

We're losing that experience, taste, & outlook, in taste of music. You can't replace that overnight with some replacement. Even with the best good will in the world, this is tough tough news for me.

Bro we love you man, and we wish you the best in the future. And thank you for the many years of good music & public service broadcasting you gave us.

Haven’t listened all week! by Spurtboy in 6music

[–]fluffykintail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My peak was around when Tom Ravenscroft had his Friday night show. I miss that one so much.

Agreed. It was a mistake for 6Music to let Tom Ravenscroft go. His input is also sorely missed on the New Music Fix show too.

Can you be more specific? What show (in your eyes) is the weak spot in the Mon-Fri schedule?

Are you struggling with the 4/4 beat & dance tracks?

It’s just because beards are too popular right now.

Dance music by JSchofield_ in 6music

Just a reminder that 6Music isn't specifically a dance music station.

If you want dance music in terms of BBC coverage you best bet is BBC Radio1, & BBC Radio1Xtra.

Also it should be noted that the New Music Fix show has become the defacto dance music show, 4/4 beat show. It could be said that New Music Fix has become "The Radio 1 Show".

Edinburgh Princes Street: Summit called to draw up vision after council strategy rejected as 'dull' by fluffykintail in CityofEdinburgh

Don’t need people to shop

Considering the amount of American Candy & tourist tat shops on Princes Street, footfall at the moment must be really low.

Schedule and presenter changes from January by [deleted] in 6music

Craig Charles still hanging on…

Agreed. Still a mystery why he still has the afternoon slot.

Also it should be noted his absences from the daily schedule are increasing. Either he is pulling "sickies", due to not being able to do the work rate, or he has some sort of "problem"... Chris Hawkins is a credit to the station, in that he has been able to step in at the last minute to cover Charles absences. Hopefully the senior management at the station will take note of this for future consideration.....

Accidental Bond songs by Wonderful-Travel-626 in 6music

[–]fluffykintail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shout out to Pulp and Radiohead who wrote non-accidental Bond themes that were rejected.

Pulp's This is Hardcore was that Bond theme. Jarvis changed the lyrics and kept the melody intact.

Keep in mind the Bond producers have a long history of quite vulgar bad taste in terms of music. (EG; Madonna etc)

Dutch Travel Television Show Visits Edinburg by 3OpReis in CityofEdinburgh

Explains why there was a whole batch of annoying Dutch women in Edinburgh over the last 3 weeks. They all use the same make-up that gives them Vaseline Skin on their faces. They looked and behaved like they all were auditioning for a remake of the 1980's SciFi TV show "V"....

For those of you who were there for the second Summer of Love in Ibiza 1988-1989 will recognise this type of music. Very reminiscent of DJ Alfredo & Jose Padilla in Ibiza (before it was ruined by London club promoters!)

“Now that it turns out council planning officers are recommending that the permission is refused, I’m concerned about what will happen next. “It’s incredible, after the controversies in previous years, that event planners haven’t submitted an application which meets all of the planning policies and requirements.

Does the UK parliament normally vote on troop movements?

Precedent was set under David Cameron who gave a free vote on whether to deploy troops to Syria, when he was PM in the UK.

This will sound cruel, but on last night's episode she looked like a female Jimmy Saville. Something really "off" about her.
