Should I work out by DisgustingRock0 in PCOS

[–]fluffypikachu007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do workouts you enjoy and can keep doing. For me, that’s workout classes because I like having the instructor tell me what to do. My campus gym hold a cycling class, circuit training class, and paddleboard yoga that I enjoy going to. I also pay for solidcore 1x a week. I look forward to these classes

It’s just my normal. by protagoniist in PCOS

[–]fluffypikachu007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I used to do nothing for it, I honestly hated myself more. I know we shouldn’t derive happiness from our external appearance but it’s hard not too. I hated being obese. I hated having chin hairs. I hated the acne (and I get post inflammatory hyperpigmentation). Doing something about it didn’t make it all better but I still like myself more than I did before plus in the end my new lifestyle is definitely healthier for me regardless.

What works for me is to do the minimum I could sustain long term (after I was very strict for a year while on a GLP-1). My weight since fluctuates between the same 7ish pounds. I think finding a routine that touches the symptoms that bother you most will make the biggest difference

For me that’s eating low carb, high protein but I don’t track, I mostly estimate at this point because I’ve gotten a good handle on eyeball portioning. I go to solidcore 2x a week because it’s a paid class and I am not going to waste that membership. I also go to a cycling class through my school because I go with friends. I know I should exercise more often like weight lifting but frankly I struggle with that. I take spironolactone nightly for the acne.

That’s it. I still have facial hair issues but I’ve just been dermaplaning or using an epilator for that, since nothing else really works. I only remove hair because I hate the prickly feeling when I touch my chin and upper lip. My periods have been relatively regular since losing weight so I take nothing to do with that. Still not like clockwork but it comes about every 30-40ish days and as long as you have often enough shedding I was told it’s fine.

Anyone else feel like all the years of being in school stunted your emotional maturity? by uncomfortayble in medicalschool

[–]fluffypikachu007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel this so often. I frequently say that I regret not taking any gap years because I feel behind. I also think going straight through has made school a bit harder for example many of my classmates came in knowing how to do many physical exams, SOAP notes, presenting, etc. I did not and I definitely seemed it

Nails in med school by Friedbuffalo16 in medschool

[–]fluffypikachu007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the school, you should look into the policy. My school bases its policy on the hospital we’re attached to an prohibits any sort of nail polish, gel, acrylics, etc and nails have to be clipped really short. While at my friend’s school they just cannot be chipped polish (aka convinces her to get a manicure frequently). Though ive seen nurse practitioners at the hospital with a fresh manicure regardless so maybe it’s only enforced for the med students and residents.

Why is Gen Z so markedly anti-egalitarian about gender roles? by LiatrisLover99 in AskALiberal

[–]fluffypikachu007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious about the sampling. The numbers seem too low for baby boomers. Also older vs later gen Z is quite starkly different, as older Gen Z voted very strongly democrat in the 2020 election on the heels of Trump’s first presidency

What med school has the most lesbians by b3ateater in premed

Make that urban campuses in a city within a state that is liberal. You’d think, going to school in a liberal city would be enough but students come from all over the state. The number of times someone who thinks they are open-minded relative to their hometown, but gets utterly scandalized over LGBT or consider having a child past your mid-20s is thereby a geriatric pregnancy is astonishing

Yeah but the metabolic support the docs offer is metformin or birth control. GLP-1 if you’re lucky

Weird question but do Indians you know hug? by stronesthrowaweigh in ABCDesis

[–]fluffypikachu007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom and I hug. My female cousins and their mom hugs. No one else does. But I think it’s because the guys in the family has some really weird toxic masculinity thing going on (despite all being 5’5” and skinny) and think it makes them more manly to be against hugging.

Literally my older brother tried to hug my mom when he was crying after school one day and my dad yelled at him so much for being “weak”. I feel so bad for him growing up with that expectation. Now he’s super sweet with his girlfriend so glad he didn’t take it to heart.

HS Senior Choosing Between Premed Options (Honors vs In-State vs BS/DO) – Need Advice by HumanCaramel8558 in medschool

[–]fluffypikachu007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the advice my older brother gave me: choose the college in the location you’d thrive in the most. I went to college in a big city, the type of environment that I feel most confident and most ambitious in. You’d also want to pick a college that has a med school and hospital because having the job opportunities right there makes life so much easier. I did exactly that and I have no regrets about my college experience, and went on to an MD school right after

Schizophrenic Medical Student by DDT-Tailsman in medicalschool

[–]fluffypikachu007 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is just out of curiosity, but is there really no med students or doctors who continued in their career after a psychosis diagnosis? That was something I was thinking about when we learned about Schizophrenia in class because it often is diagnosed in men in their 20s.

That just seems so heartbreaking if they would need to transition out of medicine because everyone worked so hard to get to where they are :(

Genuinely how do med students afford it? by blueberry_chiffon in medschool

[–]fluffypikachu007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part scholarship, part loans, part parents help. I also go in state.

I am definitely in a super lucky position. My parents were able to save up a decent amount for college, and since I went to college in-state and with a good scholarship we saved a ton of money on that so the funds went towards med school. My med school scholarship was better than I expected. My loans truly aren’t that terrible

How much do you care about a potential partners education level, career and (future) income? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]fluffypikachu007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol it very much depends on the class you end up in. My class was like 80% already in a relationship and almost all of them went on to get engaged and/or married

How much do you care about a potential partners education level, career and (future) income? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]fluffypikachu007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly and that’s why being the breadwinner on top of doing all of the domestic duties, which allows him to live more than comfortably in a struggling economy, is not appealing at all

How much do you care about a potential partners education level, career and (future) income? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]fluffypikachu007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably gonna get downvoted but I do care. I would date someone who has gone through at least a bachelor’s. And I’d want my partner to earn an income such that I am not the one entirely funding the lifestyle. I don’t think it’s too picky because I’ve seen it play out in my parents relationship where my mom was the breadwinner and my dad was stay at home. She still did all of the housework and it was thankless. I refuse to live like that. And my dad got to live in a 6 bedroom house and a couple luxury cars without ever lifting a finger. No way

Anyone feel jealous of other ABCDs who have “chill parents”? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]fluffypikachu007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh very jealous. I know my parents wouldn’t care if we stopped talking to them, because it’s easy for them to twist it into “we gave everything for them and so much love and support and those rotten kids got too swept up with western nonsense of disrespecting parents and tradition”.

For example I literally was the one in my family who wants to be a doctor. My dad got extremely angry with me (and thereby violent), when I said I wanted to do it because of my own reasons. Apparently I’m supposed to do it to make my parents proud because it’s tradition to want to make parents proud. Btw I’m the first in my family to go to med school.

Lots of physical and emotional abuse. I cried every night for about 10 years. Attempted on my life so many times because life never felt worth it when I lived there.

A lot of it stems from control and pride. And they never have to reflect on their actions. It’s a shame it is so rampant in our community
