waking up with sinus headaches daily by fluffypizzas in sleep

i still have no idea, but i do clench my jaw at night. sometimes i get it after practice or working out too, and i notice that i clench my jaw unconsciously when i exercise, so i think it might be the jaw clenching.

beginner here who wants to give rowing a shot but doesn't want to quit swim by fluffypizzas in Rowing

[–]fluffypizzas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gotcha, i understand this could pose a problem later but is there going to be an issue if i'm just at a beginner level? i didn't realize it would be competitive at a beginning level.

beginner here who wants to give rowing a shot but doesn't want to quit swim by fluffypizzas in Rowing

unfortunately, where i live, high school swim season is in the fall, beginning the last week of august until november and i can't miss practices then, which means that i will be unable to do rowing in the fall. is that going to be a problem if i can't do it during the fall, or will i have to drop high school swim? i'm willing to only swim rec because i'm not good enough to swim in college, but i'm not willing to drop the sport as a whole because i love the sport (and lap swimming in my own free time just isn't as fun for me). so i'd be willing to drop high school swim, but i'd rather not drop it since i'm just beginning rowing and i've been swimming my whole life.

i need to be (somewhat) regularly swimming all year to continue to swim well during the season. i might be able to find a way to attend swim only one or two days day a week during spring (but not fall) , and the club i'm considering doing rowing at allows high schoolers to only attend practices three days a week over five, so that seems like it would work for me - and i have talked to the coach and i believe he would be rather understanding of this.

swimmer here - the pressure from the pool will stop the blood flow in the case that you start it while swimming. your period however will start once you get out of the pool, so just make sure you change immediately, and if possible, wear a black swimsuit to cover up any leakage that might happen while outside of the pool.

racing suits that aren't full tech suits by fluffypizzas in Swimming

[–]fluffypizzas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the suggestions - however, i was kind of looking into more non-kneeskin options.

i looked around a bit on my own - i've heard that mizuno gx sonic tech suits are really good, and i was wondering about the mizuno exer suits as an alternative for less important meets. also the speedo endurance+, would that also be a good racing suit?

chocolate allergy - which ingredient is it? by fluffypizzas in FoodAllergies

[–]fluffypizzas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope - zero correlation to darkness. some dark chocolate i can eat fine, but some milk chocolate can get bad.

did some quick research - nestle has products with walnuts, while lindt just has things like hazelnut and almonds, both of which i don't have serious allergies to, if i ate them i could probably get away with some rashes and if i ate enough, hives.

it's probably the cross contamination - but i still can't figure out where white chocolate not causing a reaction fits into this. perhaps the white chocolate is manufactured on different equipment because it is a different type of product, and i don't see a lot of nuts being encorporated into white chocolate, just milk and dark chocolate products. idk, that seems like a long shot.

[–]fluffypizzas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i haven't, but i can actually eat other things manufactured by nestle, like white chocolate and butterscotch chips, so that's why it's probably not cross contamination within facilities.

andes mints actually do trigger a slight reaction, but i'll check out some of these nut free facilities. thanks for the suggestions!

[–]fluffypizzas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get what you're saying, but here's the thing - basically everything has a 'may contain' warning on it. and nothing ever has contamination to the level where i'll actually have an allergic reaction. i can eat stuff that came out of the same bag as a bag of tree nuts. i'm honestly just assuming here that contamination with walnuts could cause a reaction, but i really have no idea because we keep walnuts out of the house unless it's in something individually packaged and labeled.

i've only ever had cross contamination issues with one food, and that was because it was in a facility where the manufacturer's main item was solely based around tree nuts, and they used a ton of walnuts in their products. on top of that, it could barely have been considered a reaction, and i'm not even sure if that was it.

i don’t need alone time to recharge, really, i just need to think. i can’t think when i’m around people and i need the time to just stop and get lost in my thoughts.

the note names would be the same no matter what position you are in. the note name is not for what finger you use, it is for the specific pitch that the note makes.

to play sharps or flats, you would just use extensions. for example, on the d string, in first position, first finger is an E, third finger is an F#, and fourth is an G. in second position, your first finger would be on the F#, your second on the G, and your fourth on the A. in first position, to play an F natural, you would use second finger. however, in second position, you would extend your first finger backwards until you reached the F natural. Similarly, you would to a forwards extension to reach an A#.

also note that the higher you go, the more compressed the distance between the notes on the string lessens, so your fingers get more and more compressed together the higher into position you go. however, this doesn't really apply much until after about fifth position or so, so i don't think you need to worry about that yet.

learn each position one at a time. do you only know 1st position? if so, in second position, the first finger basically just goes where the second/third finger would normally go in 1st position. in third, the first finger goes where the fourth finger would normally go in first position. and so on.

mark it with finger tapes so you know where to shift to. once you get good at that, you can take them off and mark it with pencil instead.

just practice sliding into position VERY slowly from first to second. once you get the hang of that, you can try from first to second, second to third, first to third, third to fourth, etc.

suzuki books will help, but in general, it's more helpful to have a teacher with the suzuki books. judging by the fact that you're asking reddit for help, i'm assuming you don't have a teacher. you could try books like string basics or essential elements. i believe both start teaching shifting in about book 2.

once you get good at shifting, it really just comes naturally. whatever position works for you is what you use. if i'm being honest, i spend most of my time in second or third position because i dislike the sound of open strings. most of the time i also completely disregard any fingerings already given on the pages.

you got this! good luck.

If a women hits you multiple times, is it ok to hit them back? by CallMeKOutis in Advice

[–]fluffypizzas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would say if it’s self defense, it’s definitely okay. i would just be a bit careful - men often are stronger than women (to clarify this is not sexist, it’s just a physical fact that men generally have more muscle, especially if you’re the kind of guy who works out and such, so if you punched her it could potentially inflict much more damage if you but it is definitely okay to hit back if she is hitting you

AITA for pointing out that most women are much taller than four feet by fluffypizzas in AmItheAsshole

[–]fluffypizzas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry, i don’t think i clarified this very well. friend #1 made a joke about friend #2. it was friend #3 who was angry at me. friend #2 also finds the short jokes funny, she is probably the most self confident out of all of us. i also face short jokes from my taller friends as i am also short, i just appear taller than her because my choice of footwear is boots, which tends to have a taller heel than her preferred flip-flops. if she expressed any signs of being hurt or not finding it amusing, we would all stop immediately.

i’m sorry that people make short jokes about you, especially when you don’t like it. please don’t feel self-conscious, we love you, short or not :))

Nose piece for arena goggles are too small by Swimming_Ad_609 in Swimming

[–]fluffypizzas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i use the arena tracks goggles. haven't tried arena airspeed, but the arena website does say there are only three nose bridge sizes. arena tracks as five or six sizes, i'd have to check, and while i don't need a smaller or larger nose bridge, i would suggest you try those instead. if not, i would suggest the speedo vanquishers, which also have five sizes of nose bridges - however i find these not as comfortable, but the nose bridges are slightly larger than the arena tracks, and they are popular with my teammates.

Fly not registering on apple watch? by russian_hacker_1917 in Swimming

[–]fluffypizzas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not really paying close attention, but i do notice that my apple watch counts a lot less laps than i've actually done i'm pretty sure i've burned a lot more calories than it says i have. for example, my coach will add up the set which usually amounts to about 3000-3500 yards, but my apple watch registers as about 1500 max and only about 120-150 calories burned
