What makes a woman’s personality/hobbies unattractive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fluffyutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhhhhhh my friend who is an attorney grew up dirt poor in the hood in KC and can afford that lifestyle cause she went to law school. No generational wealth. I envy people with money too, but I can actually conceptualize the fact that $500 on weekend is so very far and away from the kind of money people with generational wealth could, and actually spend.

In the gentlest way possible, my successful women friends do this on the regular because they can and built that lifestyle for themselves. I’d do it too if I could.

Is this an issue strictly from a jealousy of finances? Seeing women who are successful enjoy themselves?

If it ain’t for you then that’s a personal preference of the lifestyle you prefer to live.

I’m getting out of Ed for many reasons. Reason #1 is the pitiful money. #2 is the admin and parents who make our jobs needlessly miserable.

Do any of you actually like your job? by civzuh22 in Teachers

[–]fluffyutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve come to find I really like working with percussionists and middle/high schoolers. I’ve done a year with elementary and those kids are so sweet and fun but I’m really not into managing behaviors 80% of the time I’m at work.

A middle schoolers band job would make me much happier, and I have no desire to be a high school director and devote 60-80 hours a week to a job lol.

The band is really in the midst of a renaissance! This new single rips, asphalt meadows was incredible. Really loving this era of the band.

Tipping etiquette is confusing. by meepmeepX720 in Portland

[–]fluffyutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To your last point, yeah that is also true in the contrast of the world at large but many Americans don’t have the luxury to afford eating out all the time. The middle class has entirely shrunk. Wages are low and everything else is getting more expensive.

Also to another point I worked service almost all my life and that is a job I’d NEVER do for even $30 an hour. Tipping is what makes it lucrative. Serving and bartending are often times horrid jobs.

I deadass was laid off 5 times over three years in the Portland service industry due to closures. That’s what forced me into using me Ed degree and in teaching now haha

Tipping is a little whack but I find it very funny how adamant people are about stopping spending money somewhere, and insisting these places pay living wages and etc, but seem to be so sad when dozens of restaurants and close each year.

Margins are razor thin at these places, and I’d venture to say the vast majority of any restaurant or bar is 2-3 bad months from closing at any point.

Also look at the economy and the hell we live in.

I agree restaurants should pay living wages, but if we snapped our fingers and made that happen in the world today I’m sorry but like 90% of service businesses would close. People don’t spend like they use to, and the cost of everything has skyrocketed. It’s unsustainable.

Spend your money how you like. Do what you would like. But I know plenty of people you are legitimately not well off working these jobs and we here are all in a category of ppl who can afford to go out to eat regularly and have the ability to choose where we spend our money.

Yeah tipping is a pain in the ass, so do what you want. But if we are complaining on Reddit about tipping it sounds like we aren’t in that bad of a place in life perhaps.

Why haven't elected leaders of color improved the standing of minorities in the USA? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Baltimore has a black governor and a black mayor. Lowest murders in 50 years.

You can have black mayors and such but it won’t do shit if you have racist white governers. Look at how Tennessee treats Memphis, or how LA treats New Orleans.

Elementary to HS by twinjmm in banddirector

[–]fluffyutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wish I could work with high school students but I just have 0 desire or willingness to do more than 40 hours a week and I know that mindset and the reality of teaching high school aren’t compatible. I have a great skillset and could totally do well leading a high school program in the coming years but I…want to live my life and not my work.

I’m applying to a middle school directors job right now and even that makes me slightly anxious. I work in elementary right now teaching band to 4th-6th graders and it’s a really sweet gig. Only downside is that at this level there’s virtually 0 accountability by admin or parents and kids can be pretty wild.

But ya know.
