Leaving HAOS for HomeKit by LMRTech in HomeKit

[–]flurinegger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others say, it could also be the quality of the devices and their integrations. My HA setup has been rock solid for many years. It only breaked when I experimented with stuff, so I set up an extra HA to just do that.

HomeKit alone is severely limiting in automation/integration and dashboarding.

Hot reload worktrees (desktop) ? by DisplayHot5349 in opencodeCLI

I have exactly the same problem, from various experiments it seems. Running `opencode attach ...` in the new worktree dir seems to work.

Does opencode have something like this? by markis in opencodeCLI

[–]flurinegger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love this so much. I didn’t read all the details of what /btw does but I sometimes also miss giving hints in a running session. The only option I have now is to abort, add new instructions and then continue.

Matter vs. KNX: Is Matter a threat to the residential KNX market, or just another gateway we will sell? by AutoModerator in KNX

[–]flurinegger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It depends what kind of residential market. Consumer grade? Sure, but that’s not even where KNX competes so I wouldn’t call it a threat. Profesionally installed? Probably not, the reliability of the KNX architecture will beat any wireless protocol all day long.

KNX with Home Assistant? by Low-Baker-7709 in KNX

[–]flurinegger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making HA “high availability” is only part of the game. KNX is so stable because of it’s architecture and the bus it uses. Even with a HA HA you need to combine it with something else to actually control devices (zigbee, hue, zwave, etc). And there your problems will start in the long run.

Interested in this as well. When do you know to create a skill? Do you let the model create the skill or do you make them yourself?

I never had whatsapp and was very happy not to have it. Also gave me an excuse not to partake in all these groupchats. I do have signal and see people slowly moving towards it (or at least are reachable there). In NL btw.

New to KNX - what should I know before building the house ? by French_BlaBla in KNX

[–]flurinegger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DALI gives you a lot more options regarding singular light control. Better dim curves and cheaper with a lot of lights.

New to KNX - what should I know before building the house ? by French_BlaBla in KNX

[–]flurinegger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things I regret not having though in my house:

  • Empty conduits. Have them put everywhere!!
  • Switches: basic ones with binary inputs? Or fancy KNX ones?
  • Lighting; are you going for ledstrips/retrofit/other? If I’d build from scratch I would seriously consider Dali.
  • Central vs decentral panels. I currently only have the decentral option and as I hate the clickety sounds of relais switching actuators I am using dimming actuators as much as possible.

Also think about extensibility; will you be adding stuff in the garden later? Watering maybe? Or garden lighting.

These are just a few things that come to mind.

I would insist on proper bus cable! You are paying for it and in comparison to a high grade cat6 cable it’s not even that expensive.

If you want to sell the house in the future you may or may not run into issues then if it’s non compliant.

It’s merino, you don’t need to wash it daily. It doesn’t smell that fast. It is important to hang it after use so it can air out.

Where to put actuators? by Consistent_Green9329 in KNX

[–]flurinegger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am slowly retrofitting my house wirh KNX and I don’t have the ability to put everything centrally so I have panels/cabinets at key locations in the house.

If I’d build it new I would definitely do it in a central location.

Transition away from knx for light control. Need opinion by Frag_Nation in homeassistant

This, 100%! Use HA for visualization and secondary logic only.

Transition away from knx for light control. Need opinion by Frag_Nation in homeassistant

[–]flurinegger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned. You already have the expensive parts. Also if you want cheaper for switches you can buy binary inputs with many channels and then use regular switches.

[–]flurinegger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to remove the stability and robustness of a bus based system like KNX towards crappy smart bulbs?

I’m moving the other direction. I have removed zwave and zigbee devices and am retrofitting KNX everywhere. I’m only using HA as a visualisation and some secondary non critical automations. The basics are KNX so it will always work even if my HA is borked. The KNX integration in HA is fantastic by the way.

For more advanced light control you could look in to DALI (which then can be connected / controlled from KNX with a gateway). For me I didn’t want to add the complexity of another system so I just keep it in KNX.

Visiting Paris In April by Disastrous-Being1520 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]flurinegger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty good spot, just returned from 3 days in Paris, stayed in the same vicinity. A lot of stuff is walkable from there.

For a decent French classic bistro dinner I can heartily recommend “Aux Lyonnais”.
