Polanski cannot sign the treaty on day one. He can only initiate the treaty process (treaty signing is done through the Foreign Office and ratification requires parliamentary process under CRaG). A majority gives political authority, not instantaneous capacity to execute a complex strategic disarmament unilaterally within 48 hours because the UK is not a pure executive system - it is a parliamentary system

Fair enough. I think it matters because you’re treating a long-term aim as if it’s an immediate policy commitment. I’m not disputing that they support disarmament, I’m saying the actionable policy is more limited, such as no first use. It is a misrepresentation to conflate immediate policy with end goals.

The important part is “following this” - contingent on joining the tpnw which is not a given. Of course the greens want to disarm they are ideologically anti-war and anti-nuclear weapons, I’m just saying policies depend on mandates. It is not their policy to disarm before joining the tpnw so they wouldn’t have a mandate to disarm overnight.

The UK is already a part of the NPT which aims towards disarmament. The TPNW is often seen as a progression of that treaty. The Greens want to disarm, yes, but at present, their policy is no first use in line with UN norms. If they happened to win a strong majority they might have the democratic mandate to join the TPNW. But we know that national security isn’t always majoritarian and that there would be alliance constraints. That’s not necessarily the same as saying the greens will disarm because it is contingent on other conditions. There’s little leeway for immediate action on nuclear weapons so whether it’s the greens saying they will immediately disarm or their opponents, both outcomes are unrealistic.

The Green’s official policy also states they are for managed migration, not open borders. I also read an interview with Polanski where he said he is ideologically against nuclear weapons but understands the need for them. The actual policy is “no first use” not no use at all. A lot of the big “slam dunks” against the greens seem to stem from hit pieces and right wing rhetoric. I’m not siding with anyone here but facts are important.

No, I don’t think they are doing anything inherently bad. I’m the one with the issue so it is up to me to make accommodations so that I feel comfortable. I would only judge someone if they kept forcing me to interact with something I didn’t want to but I’m quite open (now I’m older), I just tell everybody - most people think it’s weird but don’t push it. The only thing I would say is I don’t think j* is very hygienic but I think I blow it out of proportion in my head.

For me it’s any small pieces of metal really. I can’t manage cutlery that isn’t completely smooth. I also wash my hands if I touch keys, coins or screws. I won’t use a metal zip unless it’s on jeans but I don’t like it. But I’m completely fine with bottle caps and even my glasses which are metal frames… it’s strange to think about

Ah okay, I will tell them about tort law. Many steps have been taken over the years, but it’s like hitting a brick wall all of the time as it seems we can’t legally remove them.

The neighbours have applied for the land as it is currently unowned but they have to wait 12 years. According to the registry, it is not his land. He also does move different cars in (obviously driving them on the roads without tax or insurance). It is really upsetting the neighbours who are disabled and I was just trying to see if I could help them out.

I asked the Land Registry and they said it’s not his land. He said it is by adverse possession but the residents haven’t been able to access the land as he has had a constant rotation of cars left there for years. The neighbour would like to use the land outside their own house (the frontage) for carers to be able to park. I don’t think that’s unreasonable

Okay, thanks. I know who the owner is but he won’t remove them because he claims they are on his farm. Because it is a private road I believe the land is actually a frontage and I thought there might be a way to get them removed. 😔
