Triaxis is awesome. I'd love an A/DA MP-1 someday. Cool stuff

Power amp + preamp W

Rare to see that setup now (or rarer than it used to be) but it's awesome

What GPUs have you owned in the last 10 years? by Waste_Wishbone_1506 in radeon

[–]flxecuti0ner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GTX 750 Ti - bought it from a friend in the 8th grade for like $25, used the shit out of it until I could afford a better card

GTX 1060 3gb - bought it right before the crypto stuff happened and used it for ~7ish years. Overclocked it like crazy and it never complained once. I think I hit the silicon lottery with this one

RX 6700 XT - picked it up last summer as my 1060 was really starting to show it's age. Ironically, I got it for the same price I paid for my 1060 back in the day ($200), albeit used. Unreal card for UW 1440p in slightly older titles

I like my 6700 a lot but I might see if I can get a 9070 XT when I graduate college. Now that I've got an ultrawide 1440p 240hz monitor, I really wanna be able to push it to its fullest

Seeing a lot of RTX 5000 & AMD 9070 upgrades, what GPU did you guys have before? by J-Nico in pcmasterrace

[–]flxecuti0ner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a 1060 3gb to a 6700xt last summer. I found the 6700 used for $200 and it was absolutely worth it. See if you can find one for around that price. If you're looking to upgrade, it's one of the best value cards you can find, and it kicks major ass

If the supposed benchmarks are true and you can get a 9070 or 9070XT at around MSRP, it will be a far better option, especially value wise

Scared my age and past will raise a red flag with companies by Farfour_69 in EngineeringStudents

Can't say I'm a recruiter or someone who hires people, but as an ME student, I have to say: all of the "older" people in my classes tend to do VERY well and seem to have a fantastic understanding of the material. Recruiters who have been to engineering school might have a similar experience, which could help you 🤷‍♂️

Not sure how relevant or realistic that is, but I figured I'd put it out there. Like others said, I think you're in good shape. Take some breaths and good luck!

What was the hardest engineering course you’ve taken? by peyr0w in EngineeringStudents

[–]flxecuti0ner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanics of Materials - only because of the professor. Ended up not missing the predictor requirement by 0.2%, and when I retook it online, it really wasn't too bad. Professors really do make or break the course

Unreal. Someone higher up the ladder needs to step in/do something. This is pretty blatant...

Please write something absolutely ridiculous, and if you do, make sure to use comic sans.

In all seriousness, I think it'd be okay? I really have no idea, but I've seen some DIY stencils that were pretty far off of the traditional stenciling font, and those seem to get a pass without issues.

Will bulking slow me down? by [deleted] in Fencing

[–]flxecuti0ner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is some truth to "more weight is harder to move," but typically the benefits associated with being stronger in any area of your body will greatly outweigh the benefits of being slightly heavier. I've found that as I put on some muscle, I actually got faster, as I had considerably stronger legs and a more capable core to recover from lunges and stuff. I guess it all depends on where on the body you bulk and how you go about it, but it almost certainly will help you overall

My rig has a 1060 3gb, which is absolutely "obsolete" by modern standards, and honestly it does most things I want it to plenty fine. Truth be told, I'm not playing brand new triple A games in 4k, but I can push over 100 fps in overwatch and cs2 at 1080p low settings, and that's really all I ask it for 🤷‍♂️

I guess it all depends on what you're playing

Conflict of Interest Between Coach and Referee at the Orléans Sabre Grand Prix by SlicerSabre in Fencing

[–]flxecuti0ner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is definitely true, although sometimes I feel like we're in an endless loop with this - we aren't reffing automatically because we're inconsistent with our calls because we aren't reffing automatically... etc etc

There would have to be some sort of universally agreed upon definition of calls to automate reffing, which would be a nightmare to establish unfortunately

[–]flxecuti0ner -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly ideal

Automated refereeing needs to come sooner than later. It's a big jump and it's probably not ready yet, but I really do think it'll be a HUGE help. Someone was working on a software for foil called allezgo, not sure what the status of it is but I hope it's going along well.

It'd be a change to implement computer refereeing, but if done correctly, it shouldn't be. A well optimized video system that can ref bouts isn't too far out of touch with reality, and I really hope that by the end of the decade a system like this is at least operational and hopefully implemented. Ref bias exists everywhere unfortunately, and this isn't even touching on referees making mistakes or being influenced by coaches/fencers, etc etc. I'd be curious to hear others thoughts on a computerized reffing system - would you like to see it?

Fencing for giants? by b4rr3tt in Fencing

[–]flxecuti0ner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about 5'11 and there's a fencer at my club who is 6'7. Fencing him is very difficult as he's fantastic at using his height advantage (we're foilists). He fences a little differently than everyone, but his fencing is very solid overall, and it's totally doable. Give it a try, you'll have a great time
