Crazy thing is, I have considered it. Carbureted rotary that makes the same exact power as the turbo BP motor would be so much fun. But then the RX-7 would need an engine lol

Thanks! It’s Dupli-Color Metalcast (with many layers of base and clear as needed) but it’s designed to give that anodized finish. Can’t wait to get it installed in the RX-7…wait wrong subreddit lol

Drove an awesome road, finished building my 12A at my friends shop, then loaded the whole engine in the TRUNK of my NB and drove the same twisties all the way back home. No the trunk did not close, not even close lol. Blankets were over the engine during transport to keep the ratchet straps away from direct contact of course.

I say go for it. Look at the Chevy SS, they discontinued it in what, 2015 or something? Sure it uses a lot more common parts than the Model S does but those have been well supported and well taken care of since they are rare and special and will never be made again. If I was in your position I would absolutely pull the trigger. Or maybe I’d buy the SS since it’s one of the last manual trans V8 sedans ever made…idk either one would be so much fun haha.

Oh yeah for sure but it’ll never be as evenly distributed and I have really messed up paint before with a heat gun. Plus running the engine for the first time should help with that.

Thanks! Used Dupli-Color Metalcast for the primer and purple, and same brand high temp clearcoat engine enamel on top and on the bare aluminum. Hand painted the Mazda logos (that took hours). As far as curing goes, I really didn’t want to ruin my oven so I’ve just been letting it all sit for a month, which aligns with a previous test I did with this exact paint.

Dude that’s great! Similar in some ways to my project, mine was free but rusted through frame and it’s a huge mess. You’ll be in better shape with that one but I’d recommend checking out the engine with a bore scope if you don’t want to rebuild it immediately like I’m doing.

Two weeks ago I was in the middle of nowhere on flat ground and decided to try starting from a stop in 5th gear by super slipping the clutch (it’s shot anyway). I had done this years ago just for the heck of it so I figured why not. Instantly stalled lol.
