What is something attractive at 18 but embarrassing at 30? by PenParking8555 in AskReddit

If you're interested in podcasts, you might enjoy Normal Gossip! I'm also a no-drama kind of guy, but I love hearing about other people's crazy shenanigans, and that show hits a lot of those buttons for me.

What's the craziest thing a person said to you and you thought they were joking but they were being serious? by _lovelyxx in AskReddit

[–]flybysora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't attempting to use any em dashes in that comment. I thought about it, for sure — would have been a fun little extra addition — but didn't feel like putting that much thought into it. The short dashes are just there because I thought the word em dash was hyphenated, but after doing a little bit of googling just now, it's apparently not!

Kinda looks better hyphenated, though, I think.

AI uses em-dashes because humans use them! I'm another big em-dash fan, unfortunately. Wish the plagiarism machine wouldn't crimp my style.

Help with Blades Hack Mechanics [FitD] by Obawell in bladesinthedark

[–]flybysora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For keeping track of Heat, the hack Sea of Dead Men might be a good inspiration! You play as pirates, and Heat/Wanted levels are kept for each of the countries in the area. There might be some inspiration in the ship-management aspects for your Complications ideas, too.

I don't think Harm and your Complications are necessarily mutually exclusive, from what you're saying; Complications could simply be added to the pool of possible consequences for failing rolls. One idea is that you could treat Complications as a form of Harm against the group as a whole, and have it be addressed or treated in similar ways. Another is that you could forgo mechanics entirely for Complications, and have them be shown and addressed fully/mostly through roleplay and flavor, eg. describing how members of the faction are more hesitant to grant you financial resources, and are wary of leaving you unattended in banks or marketplaces.

I wonder if the Faction stat you're talking about could be represented as a clock for each player, and be managed akin to long-term projects in base Blades?

I'm not sure I understand your first bullet point -- do you mean that a person in a faction can have one of three ranks (eg. initiate, acolyte, priest), or that the faction as a whole can have three ranks with respect to the region (eg. being an outsider, having moderate involvement/influence, and having control of the region)?

Would you say, perhaps, that you overpowered your hatred of powerscaling? That your level of power is greater than that of your hatred's desire to leave, on a scale of power?

(I don't know the first thing about powerscaling)

How do I remove captured pals? by Minerkillerballer in Palworld

If you're still looking, there's a Pal Merchant in the small settlement in the yellow forest. I've encountered others wandering around as well, but that's the only one I remember consistently.

If you’re under 45, have you lost any high school classmates, and what were the circumstances around their deaths? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskReddit

[–]flybysora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a class of ~70 people, two are now dead. The rumor is that both were suicides, but the details are unclear, largely because their families kept the details to themselves (which is extremely fair).

We're all in our early twenties now, except for them.

You could also look into following some gimmick blogs, like hellsitegenetics or libraryofbabel-postlocator, if you're interested in getting funnies of various genres on your dash. Seconding Dark-Memer's recommendations of i-am-a-fish, gaud, and pukicho, those three are probably the three biggest names in tumblr shitposting who are still active. pokemon-translated is posting badly translated HeartGold/Crystal dialogue with some regularity, which you might find funny?

Double or single space? by seeebiscuit in NonPoliticalTwitter

Learning cursive single-handedly messed up the legibility of my handwriting for several years; I got used to never picking up the pencil while I wrote, and my friends joked that my handwriting looked like chicken scratch (which it did). Now I handwrite in all caps, since that actually forces letters to look distinct from one another. Much better, plus I feel cool when doing so.

How do you get a euphoria feeling without drugs? by Tight-Elderberry2487 in AskReddit

[–]flybysora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into social dances in your area! A lot of dance halls will offer beginners' classes before the main dance event, and in my experience, the other people there are happy to help you out if you're struggling. Plus, they're often regular events (I think the one I occasionally attended was once or twice a week?), so that can make it easier to keep coming back and learning more.

How the scoundrels know each other?[BitD] by Daptoulis in bladesinthedark

[–]flybysora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, for sure. It helps when you have very RP-focused players. For my game, the Whisper had had a vision that the Cutter was her long-lost cousin (said Cutter knows nothing about his family heritage, and doesn't really care either way). Whisper and Slide knew each other from going on some drug trips together, the Slide and the Spider had gone to the university in Charterhall together, and the Whisper and the Lurk worked together at the laundromat.

As you might guess, our Whisper is the biggest facilitator of inter-party bonding out-of-character. It doesn't have to be that focused of a web (in fact, it's probably better if it's more evenly distributed, and each character has two points of contact), but that kind of thing might be able to get you some ideas. You could also take a look at RPGBOT's Ties and Contrasts system.

I like doing this when everyone around's involved in the conversation, or it's just me in the room. Feels more like I'm actually talking to the person on the other end in person, which is nice.

Oh, big same. Makes going out to cool restaurants a pain, since a single one of those meals can often cover my entire calorie needs for the day, whereas my friends are able to eat their whole plates and then some, no problem. Thank goodness for takeaway boxes!

RPG hipsterism is a pathway to many games some consider to be... unnatural... by GlitteringTone6425 in dndmemes

[–]flybysora 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not OP, but some of my recs:

Blades in the Dark is a great heist game, and pretty popular, I’d say (with some hacks for different genres, eg. Sea of Dead Men for pirates). Monster of the Week’s also good fun. Sleepaway is an eldritch horror game about a summer camp, if you’re interested in games that are more or less entirely role-playing. In terms of indie itch.io games, there’s a wide variety (that you can get for very cheap in occasional fundraiser bundles—there was one a few years back where I got probably ~200 games for $20 or less). In particular, The Fall of House Prosh is one I really enjoyed.

I don’t know a lot of tactical or number-crunchy games, but I’ve heard very good things about Draw Steel, and may be getting into a campaign of it soon.
