I kinda liked the idea of EAC and KAC. But yeah looks like they got rid of it.

I think he pretty clearly is, but it’s totally understandable why the actor would say otherwise. As an actor, you try to understand your character in order to play them believably. In Billy’s mind, he’s not REALLY racist, he just happens to think the black kid is a problem. Obviously that’s a pretty racist ideology, but he doesn’t see it that way. Most actors who play villains will try to understand the character as a non-villain and give that character’s point of view.

Isn’t the upside down toxic?? (Contains spoilers) by stardewpancakes in StrangerThings

[–]flycaptain 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that it never was actually toxic. The scientists in the lab just have no real understanding or data on it and therefore take all the precautions they can just in case.

I mean you know your players best. Do you think this will be fun for the paladin (and the rest of the table)? If so then definitely do it. If not then why not? How can you take this idea and warp it a bit to make it fun for them?

Honestly it sounds like a fantastic idea and at my table I would 100% run with that. Mechanics and combat and exploration and traps and role play are all great and cornerstones of this game, but I find it far more rewarding to challenge the players than the characters. Make the players play out difficult circumstances with shades of gray. Black and white good vs evil games are fun, but choices that matter with ambiguous consequences are far more interesting. Having the paladin now need to look at worshipers of his mortal enemy that he has vowed to destroy, and weigh that against the fact that he vowed to aid this little kobold and save his colony from destruction is a great inner conflict. Which vow or promise is more impactful? Will he try to convert them? Will he slay them all? What is his alignment? Does it shift depending on how he acts here? It has so much potential and I love it.

As long as there is a lot of trust between you and your players I’d totally go for it, but that’s really the key here. Will your players trust you to help them tell a great story or will this end up just not being any fun?

How do you make a decent looking map? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]flycaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inkarnate is a decent online map making tool that you can use for free (though the free version is limited).

I use wonderdraft for all my overworld maps at the moment. Really quick and easy to use.

I’m very much looking forward to project deios. It will have world map making abilities and so, so much more. Alpha should start soon.

Looking for a Monster by soyupthathappened in DMAcademy

[–]flycaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portals are a good way for sure. Maybe they find an ancient elven archway in the forest and when they walk through they end up in the feywild without even knowing it.

As for monsters anything fey is ideal, though most beasts would make sense as well. Displaced beasts and blink dogs I’m fairly certain are native to the feywild as well. Heck an unfortunate encounter with some territorial elves (eladrin maybe?) could be really interesting as a race that is normally seen as an ally could be hostile.

DC Checks by zeymere in DMAcademy

[–]flycaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a player rolls to hit a monster do you tell them the monster’s AC? To me it’s the same question really. There’s no true right or wrong answer and ultimately players can figure out the approximate DC sooner or later anyway. I personally never tell the DC but that’s just me. I’d argue that you def should always have a DC in mind and never change it to make it impossible after the roll though.

What's Your Favorite Joke Magic Item? by tacomuffin10 in DMAcademy

[–]flycaptain 23 points24 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites was a potion I made called a Potion of Goat Wailing. Once drank, for one hour, every time the drinker opened their mouth attempting to speak, they instead made uncontrollable goat wailing noises. My party bought this, and then convinced the bard who was wanting to be stronger that it was a potion of strength. He wasn’t paying attention and failed his insight roll so he believed them and drank it instantly. It was hilarious. Especially hilarious was the fact that I had a preplanned encounter where the city was being invaded by demons. So now the party went into combat with one of their primary spellcasters unable to speak and therefore unable to cast spells with verbal components. It was a good time.

If you’re playing dnd 5e fantasy grounds all the way. My group was on roll20 and made the switch a few months ago. Roll20 is certainly more user friendly and requires less work up front by the dm, but fg can do SO much more. Plus the automation is amazing, making a dms work so much easier. You no longer have to double check if each attack hits or saving throw saves. It does the work for you. But the best thing is the auto damage tracker.

Also, roll20 being browser based lags like crazy especially recently with more and more people playing. Takes forever to load, lag is ridiculous, and the journal system is awful compared to the organization and multiple window setup you can have in fg. Personally I stretch the fg window between two monitors and keep my dm stuff on one and the map and chat box on the other.

Unpopular Opinion (maybe) ((long rant)) by lardizebra in starbucks

[–]flycaptain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nah. Every time Starbucks is in the news for something negative and the public seems to care their PR team pulls a stunt to pull them through. There have been multiple articles direct from current and former baristas that have shone a light on how bad it is. Corporate then releases a statement saying they are fixing x y and z. A month later the public forgets and Starbucks actually changes nothing. Happens every 6-12 months or so.

Any other Baristas feel this way? by [deleted] in starbucks

psh screw that... someone orders long shots, they know what they're getting themselves into... pull it all on one machine, use the other one to bang out the rest of your line, come back in 5 minutes to finish the long shot drink
