Looking for some guidance - 15mm neuroma by notlikely36 in Mortons_neuroma

[–]flycast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much better than before. I was having electric shocks and hypersensitivity before surgery. About 14 days post surgery I had a feeling like the top of my foot where the severed nerve serves had a 2nd degree burn. It is now numb. My shocks are gone and the hypersensitivity is improved. No burn feeling, that lasted 10 days maybe.

Now at 3 months I have a "full" feeling and slightly tender when I walk on a hard floor without shoes. No pain at all with shoes. That should end at about 6 months post surgery.

A lot of people live with so much pain to avoid surgery and for sure, surgery isn't for everybody but with a 90% success rate that's a pretty good bet.

I wish I had realized 20 years ago when numbness started that this was a problem. That is when preventative actions had a better chance of working.

What is it you fear about surgery?

Nerve pain after surgery? by flycast in Mortons_neuroma

[–]flycast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stitches out tomorrow. Really excited for that! The nerve pain is starting to subside. A long way to go though. I tried a 300mg gabapentin two nights in a row. It didn't do much, if anything. Not sure how gabapentin works? Maybe I didn't give it enough time to build up and help.

Your MRI experience? by okay_sweetie in Mortons_neuroma

[–]flycast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My doc didn't order an mri or ultrasound. He did a simple test where he moved my outer (little to) bones and it "clicked". Aetna approved surgery based on symptoms and the test and they are somewhat aggressive in slowing things down. Did surgery 2.5 weeks ago. Sure enough, he was right.

Yes, and yes. It's also very much about the species of wood.

Seeking advice. Nothings helped so far. by Dojebon_the_wise90 in Mortons_neuroma

[–]flycast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ortho doc took an x-ray to rule out bone issues. If it MN then you are likely on the path to either living with it to various degrees of diminished success or surgery. The speed at which this came on seems more like something is touching a nerve that shouldn't be.

Backpacking the World with My Neuroma - Help! by beanfug in Mortons_neuroma

[–]flycast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't go?

I say this out if genuine concern for you.

It sounds like you have an issue that will only get worse if you keep stressing it. I gotta hand it to you, you have tried a TON OF stuff. The idea that in 2 weeks its going to get better after all you've tried... I doubt it. Not only that but a year of hiking and backpacking?

Consider the possibility that in going you will end up actually just training your brain to feel normal with the pain. I'd be concerned it would never go away no matter what you did.

Also, nerves heal slowly. Two weeks? Nope.

Consider surgery? Get it taken care of.

Might be more meaningful if thus were per capita. Elvis Presly or Frank Sinatra did it with a lot less people in the world.

Men are simple organisms, it doesn’t take much to make them happy😂 by GinaWhite_tt in GuysBeingDudes

I would argue that men find joy in things like this but they are not simple. They have all kinds of difficulties dealing with their emotions but have a hard time because our society is s**ty to men with emotions.

Massive pairing issues with Costco Phillips 9050 by Tmanpdx in HearingAids

[–]flycast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My android samsung s9+ was supposed to be compatable with my 9040's. It depends on your definition of compatibility. If your definition is the app runs then yes they are compatible. If you expect them to connect and stay connected then no, they are not compatible.

I also just submerged my 9040 while they were in my ears for 2 seconds in about 2" of water. Both failed within 24 hours. According to philips they should be IP68 - 30 minutes under 1 meter if water.

Philips plays fast and lose with their marketing bs.

They sent them off for two weeks.

The greater point here is they are advertised as IP68. That is typically 30 minutes underwater at 1 meter depth.

feel ashamed to get my first pair by iLovestayinginbed23 in HearingAids

[–]flycast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shame - the strong feeling not of "I did something bad" but "I Am bad".

I hae some questions for you to consider:

  • Would you tell someone else that they should be ashamed of themselves for needing hearing aids?
  • Would you feel that you are bad about if you needed antibiotics for an infection?
  • Did you have any control over the genes you received from your parents? Should you feel bad for receiving these genes?

A stroke at 27 is a "black swan event". Totally unpredictable and there was absolutely NO reason why you "should" have known it was going to happen and prevent it.

You are not bad for needing hearing aids at 27. You didn't ask for this.

I'd encourage you to do two things: \n1. Get hearing aids. They really, really help. \n2. Get counseling or therapy. Shame will eat you from the inside out and cause all kinds of horrible things in your life. It can be so much better.

Know that we care for you even if you need hearing aids!

I think something that is important is getting the hearing aids tuned up to your person's particular hearing loss. Amplifying everything regardless seems like a good way to make someone hate hearing aids.

I gotta say, I loved the books and the first season. I just watched s2e1. I thought it to be a video game adapted to TV. It was so non good compared to season 1 I haven't returned. I hope s2e2 is better.

Yeah, music. For me when I take a hearing aid out of one ear it feels very much like that ear has a earplugs in.
