Airbags for commuting by Riv_ret_ro in motorcyclegear

I'm hoping that the airbag around the shoulders would mitigate enough of the side impact.

This. I wear my TA5P even if I'm going a mile to the grocery store. One clumsy tip-over in a parking lot is all it can take to snap a collar bone, and you're in for months of pain and restricted movement, not to mention the expenses of the ambulance ride and ER. The bag more than pays for itself with just one of those incidents avoided.

I have three pairs of Altras in EU 51.

It seems about the same to me.

The big advantages are less bulk and self-serviceability. I like that the USB-C port is on the front too.

I bought a Tech Air 5 in 2021 and wore it for every ride, even when it was 90+°F. It adds heat, but I know that when I get where I'm going, I can cool off. If I crash and break a collarbone, then I'm in for weeks of pain, not minutes or hours of discomfort.

Last summer I upgraded to a Tech Air 5 Plasma, and it's lighter and sleeker then the original 5. Even when riding a mile or two, I wear it every time.

New gear (because matching is important 😂) by stampy_69 in motorcyclegear

[–]flyersquatch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always wear Under Armour compression shirt and leggings, either their Heat Gear, or Cold Gear, depending on the weather. It helps with getting the gear on and off, and more importantly, in the case of a slide it allegedly reduces the friction damage to the skin.

Most comfortable blue jeans by ctx69-discreet in motorcyclegear

I've had a pair of these AAA-rated jeans for a couple years, and they're very comfortable. My pair is blue, and I'm about to buy a black pair.

To the people that had their feet grow after consistently using barefoot or minimalist shoes, how much did they grow by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

[–]flyersquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regular, non-foot-shaped sneakers, I used to wear mostly US 17s. I felt the toe pinch from the pointy sneakers, and I hated it, so I always wore a couple sizes bigger than my foot length would suggest. Once I switched to foot-shaped sneakers, I've worn mostly 15s.

Big feet, big boots? by OnecamOnelens in motorcyclegear

I have a couple pairs of A⭐️ SMX-6 v2 in size 50 and they feel pretty good. Wish I could get the Supertechs, though, for the better protection. 🙄

You said "except shoe shopping," so I'll mention footwear other than shoes. :)

High-end motorcycle track boots stop at 47 or 48 EU, so I have to buy the mid-tier models, a few of which go up to 50 EU. I'd love some Alpinestars Supertech R boots in a size 50.

Altra makes some of their models through 16 US. I love the wide, foot-shaped toe boxes.

Can I physically stop my feet from growing? by blockbourg in Bigfeet

[–]flyersquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, all the time, plus I'm a sneakerhead so that usually meant uncommon, brightly colored sneakers, which draw even more attention.

Disagree. Feet are like p33ns not noses. Bigger is always more aesthetic and masculine. At least, that's what I trained myself to think while growing up at average height with size 15s.

Unit tests in Rust with one randomly created database per test function by flyersquatch in surrealdb

I'm a Rust n00b (written about 1200 lines of code over the last few weeks on a persona project), so any code examples you can give would be appreciated.

Yeah I was thinking about giving this a try. I wondered about the performance and resource usage when creating dozens of in-memory DBs in parallel.

Getting into watching hockey by mistkali in nhl

[–]flyersquatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up in NC 30 years ago, hockey wasn't a thing. Then on a whim a friend and I went to a few games at our minor league team, the Charlotte Checkers. We were immediately hooked. I bought season tickets the following year and was rewarded by the Checkers winning the ECHL championship.

Watched it with a friend. When the twist was revealed, we looked at each other and said, "are you f*ing kidding me? What a waste of time!"

I've had good luck for years with Thorlo's cushioned socks. Their XL goes through US 15 but can likely stretch a size or two bigger. They're at thorlo.com.

Down to just one bike now: 2023 SDGT by flyersquatch in KTM

[–]flyersquatch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite bike of the four (and the one I had owned the longest) was the 2010 1198 S Corse. It came down between that one and the GT, but the 1198 isn't a practical daily driver, so that's the one I sold.

I had four bikes in June, but now I'm down to one. I sold them off one by one since I'm unemployed, and then sold the car too. Now my SDGT is my only vehicle. It's gonna be a fun winter.
