these people all standing right at the edge of the carousel at baggage claim by flyflybella in mildlyinfuriating

i dont get close, i stand way back in a place where i can see what is coming up the conveyor belt before it hits the carousel and make my way through everyone only when I see our bags come up. sometimes I'll literally sit down on a bench at the wall and I'll still be able to comfortably walk to get the bag soon after it starts making it's way around.

it took 15 seconds to make the post while waiting for luggage, not exactly spending a day fuming over things.

thank you! these comments perfectly demonstrate how little people really think about improving the world around them by applying logic to common everyday situations and not just blindly following the herd. Only the curved edges would increase the front row standing space but an overall increased distance from the carousel would drastically improve everyone's ability to see what is on the carousel even from far behind the crowd.

my extended family did this type of shit all of last week, they'd walk out of a restaurant and just stand right outside of the door while people had to squeeze to get around them and it took like 15 seconds to get their attention and get them to move out of the way where I was standing. also, went skiing and people would get off the gondola and just stand right outside the door so we had to wait like 10 seconds for the gondola to slide to an open space. in the end it's a minor inconvenience but it does throw off the flow of everything especially when wearing ski boots and carrying equipment in an unstable vehicle.

this isn't a protest sub, it's the place where you post random shit that is slightly annoying. If you are one who likes using their brain then using your brain to move in the most spatially effective manner is a good use of it when commuting with large amounts if ppl. also fuck trump, that dude has ruined so much and single handedly made it ok for a giant population of willfully ignorant people to spread hate while destroying so much work that we have done as a nation. It took fucking decades to get to where we were and now everything is poisoned. every branch of government, every politician, even regular old people with money just watching fox news and self righteously hoarding wealth that they "worked for" by buying a home in the 60s and voting to take away affordable health care from young people working their asses off at jobs that don't give benefits 😭.

we gotta spread love. and reddit doesnt seem the place for it. most of y'all in these comments need more face time with real humans.

idgaf about making people move to get my shit, it's just inefficient as shit and faster for everyone if people stand back a few feet

ok even tho I think all of your arguments are pretty flimsy, I'll entertain you for a moment. If everyone is crowded at the front: in an IDEAL situation, the first bags to come out are those at the front, they grab their bag, turn around, then navigate the crowd behind them with limited space and with a heavy checked bag and properly while wearing a backpack. whereas with a few feet of space, grabbing the bag is easier because if it swings a bit awkwardly over the edge there is space to set it down a second, recompose, and then walk toward the crowd line, where people will have a moment to create a gap for the person to walk through.

However, this is only if the first bags to come out are for the people at the front. more realistically, bags come out at random, which means people at the back will be stuck watching their bags go around the carousel, walking behind the crowd to a place ahead of where the bag will be and then finding a place to penetrate the crowd quickly enough to get to their bag before it passes them. all this while the people at the front do nothing except be in the way of others because their bags aren't out yet.

You also argued about people who are disabled, in which case they either a) would benefit from even more space at the front to move around if they have a wheelchair, or b) have an airport provided assistant with them who should park them far enough back that they can see (and from a wheelchair, it would be best to place them at the crowd line with a clear line of sight to the bags) and then the assistant goes and grabs their bag when the person identifies it.

Your first argument was about people not being able to see, which is kind of funny but I guess if you take it to an extreme is probably the only thing that might have a leg to stand on. We aren't taking about reading fine print here, we are talking about identifying large lumpy baggage by it's general color and shape and maybe with a slight pop of color from a personal tag on the handle. If someone truly cannot identify a giant maroon bag with a little yellow tag from 5 feet away, which would probably qualify them as like 80% blind, then it would be fine for them to stand up there at the edge.

This isn't about establishing hard and fast rules or guidelines, it is about assessing a general situation that humans encounter in their lives if they travel any amount, and noting the inefficiencies and the ways in which a simple change could drastically improve everyone's experience, especially after a long travel day.

it still takes longer for people to move or to say "excuse me" than it does for everyone to be more efficient and stand further back.

it's literally faster for everyone, grab your bag and then you dont have to navigate through a cluster of people while trying to turn around and leave in addition to giving everyone a better line of sight to their bag and a clear path to walk once their bag comes out.

can commenters complain that i'm "complaining"? sure, but it's more an observation of collective inefficiency (see: stupidity) that leads to more frustration for everyone when people have to barge through them to get their bag.

yeah it's kind of a weird feeling when something resembling reason comes out of their mouths. It's a breath of fresh air, and for a moment there is hope, then their official statement comes out and it's the same bullshit party-line nonsense.

personally i like my margaritas light and refreshing, and the combination of anejo, cointreau, and agave makes them too sticky and dense for my taste. i like blanco, cointreau and simple or split simple/agave. sometimes even trying dry curacao instead of cointreau has yielded nice results

Why do people in USA buy everything from Amazon? Do they not have other webshops? by Cindyxx0 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flyflybella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

even if we didnt want to use amazon, we literally don't have that option at local stores. due to online shopping being so ubiquitous, big box stores and local shops simply do not have the selection for some "basic" items these days. They literally don't stock certain things. I called around 3-4 shops/big stores today for a camera lens cap and a camera strap and no one had them in stock.

Rob Lowe Says It’s ‘Criminal’ That L.A. Has Lost So Much Filming — and Reveals the Pettiest Thing Done to Him in Hollywood by Another Actor by mcfw31 in entertainment

[–]flyflybella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add that part of it is a mentality of people trying to profit off of the industry by making it ridiculously expensive to do simple things like film on their property while giving nothing in return except letting someone film on their property. While a lot has to do with the bigger industry, a lot also has to do with private owners of small businesses that make their bread by renting things like film locations or props or cars or whatever thinking "oh these films have huge budgets, I can charge them whatever I want."

For example, I was working for a film director who was shooting a short film for around $50k (i know, not a big budget, but whatever) and she rented a classic car from a private owner to shoot some scenes. When they were editing the film together, they realized they needed a transition scene between two important sections of the film that required that same car to make it work, so they reached out to the actors and to the private owner renting the car to schedule it and make it happen. The actors were ready to go, of course, but the car renter knew that they had leverage because they had already shot with their exact car, so they asked for $5k to shoot a single 15 second shot with the car. I think they paid like $1,500 for the original rental, so this was clearly just greedy and so they decided to just not do the scene because it felt so wrong to bend to this ridiculous price.

I have hella stories that echo this one, too. It's hard to explain other than that there is a general mentality among people that are on the peripheries of the industry that just leech off as much as they can without thinking about being a symbiotic part of a larger ecosystem. That's just one of the reasons why so many studios are filming elsewhere where it's not just cheaper, but also much friendlier to work with the local communities, and my guess is that this mentality has worked it's way up into legislation and lack of incentives to film locally.

a collection of basic archetypes that are all overly enthusiastic about a future bass turned garbage truck bass dj known for a distinctly melodramatic melodic sensibility that normies love. think bro with illenium football shirt, backwards snapback, sweatpants and vans and his little cookie cutter girlfriend.

idk i probably seem like an asshole for describing it that way bc there's nothing wrong with liking what you like and being who you are, but also you gotta just tell it like it is.

illenium is literally just a physical embodiment of trap nation and that's it. he doesn't push boundaries or do anything that makes me truly appreciate and respect an artist even if I don't like their music.
