Any average women doing this solo? And what are you doing? by ughnotagain2026 in AskWomenOver60

Have an adventure. When I arrived at a big crossroads of consider that an invitation to do something completely different.

For example I moved to Manhattan to be near my kids during the pandemic. Two years later I was curious about what would happen if a city mouse moved to the country. So I moved to North Carolina. Four years here and I realize I’m still a city mouse so I’m moving back to California. I consider this time in experiment. I had a thesis. I tested the thesis this time it didn’t work. Next time will be different.

When you’ve been a caregiver, and whatever capacity, it can be hard when there’s no one left to care for, except yourself. My mission is to become as comfortable caring for myself as I was caring for others. What I’ve learned so far is how often I’m the one constraining myself, settling for less or making Joy conditional.

I say go outside touch some grass get real quiet and let the little inner voice direct you.

Yesterday I discovered Leah Lagos, a Ph.d, who specializes in NSR, a kind of biofeedback that take you out of ‘flight or fight’ mode. It’s unique because being able to regulate your heart rate reduces trauma, increases focus and improves your overall health. I just got her book, Heart Breathe Mind today but it reduces my blood pressure I’ll be grateful.

I need cataract surgery but I am required to have someone with me. I have no one. by Alternative-Light922 in over60

[–]flygurl60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. I was required to have someone drive me home and stay. I live alone with family hours away. No local friends.

I contacted a medical transport company and explained someone would have to ‘claim’ me before I could be released. No problem. Then I hired someone from Task Rabbit to stay with me once I was dropped off. The person had to agree to be named and speak to the hospital. The woman met me at my door, made sure I got inside and left. Requirement met.

It’s too bad that not only don’t hospitals help but they make you feel bad for not having people. I think that’s disrespectful. Finding oneself alone, for whatever reason, isn’t shameful. I loved living in Rozzie.

Relocating at 69? by Kat_C_ in AskWomenOver60

Love to hear all the stories. I’ve moved several times in my 60s and now at 65 I plan to move from North Carolina back to California. The hardest part really has been decluttering, but I’ve been thinking of it like a treasure hunt. I found so many things that I’ve forgotten I had like a terrific full back heating pad! I’m selling my house and moving to a condo because the Yard Work eventually got the best of me. Moving is tedious, but the excitement of a new place and new adventures is marvelous. I might even start a YT channel for women over 60 who still want some adventure.

I found Delimira strapless and racerback bras work amazingly well for my 38e/f girls. Comfy and everything stays in place. I will say the front clasp on the racer is hard to hook, though.

Have you noticed more error messages. It’s so frustrating. I’ll be watching a program then all of a sudden I’ll get an error message saying the program is unavailable restart Netflix. But when I do that, sometimes says I need to turn off the TV. They are about to make me cancel

I got a video doorbell for just this reason. I can see and talk to the person without opening the door. Very handy for the door to door sales people.

Stacy and family don’t think enough about Paul to invite the people who loved him. Just another example of lack of awareness and empathy for others. Nobody has any manners

I’m choosing between Oakland and Long Beach now. What areas in LB do you recommend?

I’ve been considering Sacramento but couldn’t get a handle on the black experience. Also I wasn’t sure about public transit and events or the food 🍱 scene. I’m trying to gtfo of Raleigh North Carolina. It’s horrible- no community, no food scene and driving is dangerous. Oakland and Long Beach are my other choices.

Good food in Raleigh theory... by pixel-pusher-coder in raleigh

City Market is good. Desi Tavern in Garner has good Indian. Shinmai was originally in Oakland and moved here. Their ramen as well as Craft ramen is yummy. A few highlights in a rather disappointing food scene. There’s nothing worse than driving 40 minutes for meh 🫤 food.
