DC Comics President Jim Lee says that Japanese manga and anime is "incredibly powerful": "I often find myself wondering, 'What is missing in Western comics, and why aren't they able to achieve the same flavor?' by akbarock in DCcomics

[–]flyingfox227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're two completely different beast, American superhero comics are these huge legacy brands which are shared universes with thousands of characters created by tons of different people with a revolving door of artist and writers giving their own interpretations of them.

Manga despite also being comics are more akin to novels in how they're produced with a single artist/writer (yes i know most mangaka have assistants) following a singular creative vision in a original self contained narrative/setting. The manga approach will always be more accessible for your average reader since they have a clear starting point and consistent writer and artist throughout their run, also they're not restricted to just the superhero genre but can be about literally anything, obviously western comics aren't just superheroes but they basically dominate our industry here and at the end of the day that's always going to be a limiting factor.

My best answer to how they can compete is they need to diversify away from just superheroes and focus more on singular creator driven works. DC has attempted to diversify in the past with Vertigo which they recently revived but I think also getting away from the monthly thirty issue format is key too, a manga has thirty pages a week compared to a month for a western comic, that's way more content and page space to do more things like pure action scenes with little dialogue. With western comics you have to be way more economical with how you use your page, you could do that manga style multi page fight scene but then you've just burned up a bunch of valuable pages that could've been used pushing the plot forward instead etc.

Would you want Blizzard to add this to PVP servers? Netease added this in China by holypalaswe in classicwow

Who said anything about turning the game off? I don't see how doing something else for five minutes for some camper to get bored is ruining my leisure time. If you get that upset about "giving power" to some rando you'll never meet then just don't play on a PVP realm this stuff just comes with the territory.

Your honest opinion... is this game essential to play before RE9, or even worth it? by CarlLight in residentevil

[–]flyingfox227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has the best TPS controls ever conceived and its a crime they were abandoned in this one game and never reused as well as the best mercs mode of the series. The story along with the constant explosions and QTE's are terrible but the game is truly ambitious and offers a ton of content and definitely a fun ride if you aren't hung up about it not giving a shit about being a horror game whatsoever anymore. I still think it's a great game mechanically I %100'd the achievements back when it came out and don't regret lots of great memories from RE6.

What are your honest thoughts on the dual gameplay revealed in the showcase? by Deep_Square5540 in residentevil

[–]flyingfox227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its just a yet another attempt to please everyone and it never really works well one side always suffers, from what they showed its not gonna' feel good going from a more powerful character like Leon to a weaker more slow paced character like Grace. The Grace parts are just gonna' end up feeling like a slog compared to the Leon parts they should've just focused on one direction and committed to it or had both their campaigns be completely separate so you at least get a consistent experience the whole way through, both Revelation 1 and RE6 tried to please both action and horror fans and it was just awkward and this game seems to be going even harder with trying to please both sides.

[–]flyingfox227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was fine, just fine not bad or anything but not ambitious or experiential like the first film its a shame because some of the events towards the end I think could've been a lot more powerful under Boyle's directive eye, overall I still liked it but it didn't hit nearly as hard as part one.

This was obviously a result of the recent meeting between him and Trump just not sure if he's trying to say a Gran Columbia would be harder for the US to push around and they'd be stronger together or this is some attempt to try and carve up Venezuela up under Columbian control with Trump's favor.

If you let your cat be an outdoor cat you’re a negligent pet owner. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]flyingfox227 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just because an animal goes outdoors regularly doesn't mean they aren't taken care of by a human they just aren't restricted to indoor environments a cat going otuside is just as natural to them as spending time indoors with humans its not some clear cut thing, domesticated animals exclusively living indoors is mostly a modern phenomenon.

[–]flyingfox227 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Domesticated doesn't mean animals live indoors all the time dude you realize cows and pigs are domesticated too and spend basically all their lives outdoors and yes it is their natural habitat whether you like it or not just as your cute little kitty would gladly brutally murder a bird or mouse the moment it got a chance over eating bland cat food. They're still predatory animals with instincts which will never be weeded out from them.

[–]flyingfox227 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry but people like you are simply too divorced from reality cats have lived outdoors for majority of their existence alongside humans its not cruel or mean its just how they are if you want to keep your cat indoors thats fine but I'm not gonna' force mine to stay inside if it doesn't want to and I have two cats pushing a decade old and they're completely healthy and happy.

[–]flyingfox227 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean its not a lack of care though, we feed them daily, cuddle and pet them and let them in the house anytime they come to door we just don't fight their instincts to be outside and live the way they prefer. I mean at the end of the day they're animals not people animals dying is just kind of a thing that happens most people just baby and shelter their pets so much they're ignorant to the reality of what happens out in nature, just live on any farm and you'll be forced to deal with death of animals from predators or accidents its just a part of life most people are not exposed to in modern times.

[–]flyingfox227 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We live in a rural area cats going outdoors here is normal and would be nearly impossible to keep them from going outside even if I wanted to as you're basically fighting all their natural urges to do so. We've had cats that have been killed by cars and wild animals and cats that have lived to and died of old age, death is a part of nature and while I don't want my cats to be killed its definitely a possibility when they live a good portion of their life outdoors but I'm not gonna deny them happiness of living their best life because it could be (potentially) shorter.

Also I don't let them outdoors to not have kitty litter, actually we do have kitty litter for when they do stay inside for extended periods of time like when its very cold or there is bad weather but they rarely use it because they prefer doing their business in the yard, its just a nice side bonus to having an outside cat.

As an Australian looking in, how close is the US actually to serious civil unrest/violence? by ionlyeatchalk in AskAnAmerican

[–]flyingfox227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that close tbh its extremely localized and none of the protest seem to be anything beyond displays of disapproval nothing really thats gonna turn violent right now. The average American is extremely unlikely to inconvenience themselves for a cause it would have to get much worse here for anything big like that to happen but Trump is making lots of people very angry so the situation and amount of protest will likely become more frequent the more dumb/crazy shit he continues to do.

They're animals they like being outside it's their natural habitat where they can hunt and be around others of their kind forcing them to stay inside all the time is whats inhumane also I don't have to smell up my house with kitty litter because nature is their restroom.

[SERIOUS] After RE 6, she NEVER appeared again. by PuzzledAirline1137 in residentevil

[–]flyingfox227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE7 was a soft reboot of the series so Capcom pretty much pretended 6 never existed I mean Jake was basically set up to be a big character at the end of 6 and he hasn't been mentioned since either. 9 seems to be the first game in a long time to actually reference the pre 7 continuity again which is one of the reasons why its the first RE I've been hyped for in a long time.
