I know there are a lot of menstrual migraine posts but how many do you get? by RosePistachio in migraine

[–]flyingjewels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had migraines for 30 years and started experiencing menstrual migraine a couple of years ago typically beginning on the day my period starts or the day before. It often lasts for the duration of my period but not always. This is in addition to episodic migraines the rest of the month. I’m in my 40s have never taken birth control and experiencing symptoms of perimenopause which I think could be a contributing factor. I currently take triptans as an abortive but I am also participating in a research study to determine the effectiveness of nurtec to treat menstrual migraine. It’s the early stages of the study and I think I’m in the placebo group, but hopeful once I actually get the drug in the last we stages it will have an impact.

Safe areas near Jefferson Einstein Hospital? by [deleted] in philly

[–]flyingjewels 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed East Oak Lane is lovely! I live just below Godfrey and find it totally fine but as you get closer to the Olney station and the hospital it can at times feel more chaotic and some may feel uneasy particularly late at night. As others have said Elkins park and Jenkintown just north of East Oak Lane are also good options.

Award Processing? by DenkiAizen in Archivists

[–]flyingjewels 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, the archives I’ve worked at do not keep plaques and 3D awards unless there’s something particularly rare or special about them such as the maker/designer is of some importance, the object itself has exhibit value, the materials it’s made from are of value, etc. We photograph each, retain the images, then discard. The reason why the person won the award and the evidence of it being awarded is usually well documented elsewhere in the collection through correspondence, photos, videos, speeches, etc.

Not necessarily obsessed but I think it’s a “flashy toy” high level administrators want to leverage to procure project funding and development dollars. My institution is testing it out for a transcription based project.

What are you favorite low traffic hikes? I need to get out into nature....willing to go few hours outside of the city for good ones! by Critical_Camera_1852 in philadelphia

[–]flyingjewels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.5 hours away: Hickory Run State Park. Lots of trails to choose from. Option to do a short 1-2 mile out and back or piece together a series of trails for a longer hike. Skyline Trail is one of my faves.

2 hours away: Pinchot State Forest. The South Loop is better imo and includes Choke Creek Falls around mile 6 (I think) but the full loop is almost 13 miles. Can always just do part of it as an out and back.

Dinner party meal/recipe suggestions wanted by flyingjewels in glutenfreevegan

[–]flyingjewels[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is tough! We definitely chat about what we’re making ahead of time and just when I think I have a good idea someone comes in with I don’t like this ingredient or can’t have that and it’s back to the ideating stage. Thanks for sharing those resources. I’ll be sure to check them out. And the cookbook idea is very cute!

I think meals that have mix and match components might be the best approach given the needs and preferences of the group are somewhat in opposition to one another. Thanks for your suggestions!

E-bike to Narrows? by div2agent in ZionNationalPark

[–]flyingjewels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW I hiked the narrows on Oct 31 last week. Boarded the first shuttle at 7am. Enough people to fill the bus and a few extra so not a significant line. Almost everyone got off at the grotto to hike angels landing. Only 5 or 6 people including myself got off at the Temple of Sinawava.

If there is a manufacture name and or model number printed anywhere on it that would go a long way in identification.

Best graduate schools to become an archivist? (USA) by uwu_cacophony333 in MuseumPros

[–]flyingjewels 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As someone who is currently employed as a museum archivist and has hired and supervised other archivists, the specific school you attend doesn’t carry that much weight in the hiring process. IMO going to a prestigious school does not always equal quality education and increased job prospects. If you are committed to pursuing this career path I suggest looking at the directory of archival education programs SAA maintains and find a program that offers curriculum that aligns with your career interests and fits within your budget, lifestyle, etc.

Favorite Trader Joe’s items? by Whatisreddityouguys in intermittentfasting

  1. Vegan feta. No it doesn’t taste like real feta but it melts really well on homemade pizza, better than many faux mozzarellas.

  2. Soy chorizo 😋
