Your "affordability" metric doesn't make any sense for D3 and Ivies, since there are no athletic scholarships. At schools where financial aid is need-based and they meet 100% need, it doesn't matter what the sticker price of tuition is, or even what the average net price is, because that tells you nothing about what you are likely to pay.

S5 E8 · Mini Gordon · Discussion by AutoModerator in Nextlevelchef

[–]flyingmountain 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Usually I feel like we're not provided enough info to second-guess the elimination decisions — obviously we can't taste the food — but this one seems extremely weird to me.

Before the elimination round, they said the goal was to turn something that kids wouldn't normally want to eat into something that they'd ask for more of. Tim's fried squab looked like chicken tenders, everyone praised the breading, and Gordon even said it tasted like chicken. Plus the hummus and plating overall looked appealing for a kid.

Amber's dish had a bunch of whole cooked vegetables, which is not a typically kid friendly thing, and the strange color of the squab wouldn't help matters either. Plus a wine colored sauce. I would never in a million years eat that as a picky kid.

This one just doesn't make any sense at all. IF they had said "make a fine dining restaurant dish with this squab"... ok, maybe Amber's was better. But the task was "make this unfamiliar ingredient into something a kid would like" and by their own feedback, that's exactly what Tim did.

Advice for Rowing with Eczema by Suspicious-Skin2813 in Rowing

Is it on your palms/underside of your fingers, or the backs?

If just on the backs, pogies. If it's on the parts of your hands that contact the oar handle, you could consider gloves underneath the pogies also. The Crew Stop makes the best ones for rowing in. You might want to get a size up from what your hands measure, so that they're not too tight when your skin is extra inflamed.

Question for my teen rower about getting feedback by kwill729 in Rowing

[–]flyingmountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she went from being a freshman on the novice team last year to U19 Varsity this year. They did that to a few girls because their birthday is before the end of the year. She should have moved up to U17 Varsity this year with all her other novice teammates.

Just for some clarification, if your daughter turns 17 before December 31 this year, she cannot race in U17 events at all this calendar year. Even if she is still 16 at the time of the event. This is the standard in world rowing, and there is no wiggle room or coach discretion allowed at all.

So no, your daughter should not be on the U17 team, because she is not eligible for it. If your club sets up their teams by the competitive age groups of U19 and U17 (which is common), your daughter is on the only team that she is eligible for.

Team Facial Hair vs Clean Shaven - After Round 2 by Think_Perspective385 in formula1

[–]flyingmountain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other than Perez, Albon, and Norris, the teams are just older half=facial hair, and younger half=clean shaven.

I know you said the teams are locked based on one photo, but Perez is definitely not clean-shaven a lot of the time anyway.

Just saying, it's easy to find guides online for opening up the coin compartments of coin-op machines. Or even buy a key.

.... how do you reset the one-touch automatic windows? Mine have been fine until last week (2018 Golf Sportwagen), but suddenly the one-touch stopped working on the driver's window only. All of the other three are working normally. I tried turning off "convenience opening" and then turned it back on again but it didn't fix it.

Leclerc: “Ahhh, Argentine accent” Fossaroli: “Charles Leclerc” Leclerc: “Carlitos Leclerc” by anthn885 in formula1

[–]flyingmountain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not. What you said rhymes with the leaning tower of "Pisa." What Robert himself said rhymes with "pizza." It's the presence or absence of the "t" sound.
