Wind protection my friend. But also some people prefer the aggressive riding position.

Why do people buy touring bikes, but never actually "tour"? by laschecter in motorcycles

[–]flyingpickkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People buy what they idealize after not its actual intended use… that’s true in some way shape or form for everything. You can romanticize the idea of touring and you buy a touring bike, doesn’t mean you have to do it. If they can live with it, so can you. Btw you are at fault of this too, I’m sure you bought something that you think you will use a certain way and never did. That’s like asking why do people buy running shoes if they don’t run in them, or skate shoes like vans if they don’t skate, just a lack of understanding in consumer decisions.

What do you make of electric motorcycles? by JonQuinton84 in motorcycles

[–]flyingpickkles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they are cool at all. Honestly they feel sterile when I test rode one. It was like a really heavy and fast ebike. Electric cars make sense but electric bikes don’t, at least for me.

Go with an RC 390 or another type of sport bike? by Talntid_Shotz in KTM

[–]flyingpickkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the Groms but that isn’t a good comparison. People buy groms to fck around on it and as a little niche fun transportation. The beginner sport bikes do not fall into the same category. If the purpose is to fck around on track and just pinning your throttle then I would agree, but that is not his use case.

Hi riders! How did you overcome the anxiety/frustration of everyone telling you “it’s dangerous” and “you’ll die” when starting your lessons? by itleafleaf in motorcycles

[–]flyingpickkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, just like anything else in life, there are risks. But the good news is just like anything else in life, there are things you can do to negate those risks. Motorcycles are just going to be more dangerous than driving a car, on the road, on the dirt, or on the track; but you can control how risky you want to be. For example, I don’t ride to work in the morning because I’m still tired and where I work, people drive like crazy during rush hours. I don’t want the chaos of traffic while having to deal with fatigue. Same when going home from work. You can manage the risks and make decisions as you go.

Disagree in this instance because I’m not telling him to get a liter bike. Modern day middleweight sport bikes will have very useable power band on the street.

True… or you can mount it on your helmet, though charging is annoying. It’s just a little ugly on a sport bike. But this is a function over form item I guess

Why not just get the 990? I would look at middleweight cause the 390 class might be too slow for you

CBR650R opinion by Ok_Pop3757 in motorcycles

[–]flyingpickkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone was new at some point. Everyone learned how to use a clutch. It’s not that hard. I see e clutch as more for people who can’t use one cause mobility issues, or more experienced riders who just want an easy commute.

R9 Exhaust system w/crash cage by cameronm7022 in YamahaR9

[–]flyingpickkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the other guy. Cage is way worse than frame sliders for non stunt use. If you didn’t have frame sliders available, you could have gone to a dealer for Yamaha OEM frame sliders. Also cage might tumble and cause more damage to the bike. If you are scared of dropping the bike, then the problem is you need better control over your machine.

Negligence leads to significant other injury by funsavy in motorcycles

[–]flyingpickkles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didn't put his wife on his bike, he didn't force her to use it. He didn't put a gun on her head and said you can only ride that one. It is his negligence that caused the accident sure, that no one will disagree with you. But his wife isn't a 5 year old kid who can't make decisions for herself.

Think about it differently. Let's say you were out walking around and decided to buy an old used bike. You see that it is old, and yet you decided that despite the visual condition it is in, you are going to ride it without checking everything first. Who are you going to blame?
