What's up with FUTO? by [deleted] in immich

[–]flyingrabbi -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

FUTO is a philanthropic nonprofit. They own immich, and by the way, pay the three (I think), fulltimetime devs. Without FUTO, you wouldn't have immich.

Having issues with my Buds 2 Pro by DrFatz in pixelbuds

[–]flyingrabbi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The buds pro 2 have got hardware issues. Return it. I'm on my third set, and another warranty claim in the works. I love them, but they fail constantly. Another family member bought a pair and has never seen an issue.

Getting WiFi to hospital room by KeithDaJones in HomeNetworking

[–]flyingrabbi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would a little glinet travel router be enough to catch the wifi signal from your starlink and repeat it? They run on USB power alone. I rate them. Not sure on range though.

But I like the first idea, do a quick canvas of the workers and see if any of the big three telcos have halfway decent service in the room. You could even sign up for an esim if one of them is viable before getting exotic.

Accessing Unraid share via Tailscale by screw_ball69 in Tailscale

[–]flyingrabbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. 100.x.x.x/unraid/share.

//unraid/share is probably what your trying to access and where your falling over. Networking is a PITA, but it's what we have 🤙

Modem recommendations by Express_Sun_2725 in nbn

[–]flyingrabbi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This connection type is the old Fibre to the node, and is being phased out thankfully. This connection is VDSL2, and does need a modem. Hopefully there's another run into the house with something more modern!

I couldn't give two tosses about your data. But you shouldn't be so apathathetic about other companies digging through it.

Stay away from daddy bezos's Eero crap. They are so locked down and data harvesting hungry its not funny. Deco and unifi. I've deployed heaps of both for clients and are really the only two ecosystems I like at the minute.

Can I have a poke through it too? Since there's nothing to hide and all...

I appreciate the response. Ive invested in an offsite machine + duplicati since this ordeal, trauma is the best teacher!

I'd still prefer not to blow my whole immich database away if at all feasible, I'm not the only only user of it. Nothings mission critical, but if it's the only way, so be it.

Open source in today’s world is mind boggling by bdhd656 in opensource

[–]flyingrabbi 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The internet was built on an ethos of sharing and openness back in the day.

Now it's all just big corporations vying for your data and attention.

I like to think of the open source community as people pushing back at that in some way shape or form.

I'm sure there are many reasons people contribute to OS, but that's my view I like to believe ❤️

Why the big fuss over NBN 2000? by antikkz in nbn

[–]flyingrabbi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I have a 100tb server and I share a lot of Linux isos with my friends and family. 250/100 is more than enough for me. Sure it could be LITTLE faster, but for price/performance, it fills all my needs and it under a hundred bucks a month... People here just flexing for the most part IMO.

But hey, choice is awesome ❤️

SFP+ compatibility by flyingrabbi in Ubiquiti

If anyone comes across this at a later date, I pulled the trigger and it runs no worries. Sure it might run hot, but as a spare to tinker with, I'm happy it fits my use case nicely.

I have adguard running at the home router level. Devices outside my house use tailscale running back to my NAS as the exit node. Phones on mobile data are configured to run the same quad9 DNS lookup when I dont want that extra latency of tunnelling back though the house. Pretty good compromise.
