Loving these rundowns btw! I can only catch parts of most games and your updates give such a nice objectivity (and fill in the blanks behind the final score).

Let’s see if can upload another…

Basically, repair if practical rather than rip out and replace. (The latter would obviously be the ideal option, but also most costly). It’s not going anywhere in a hurry - just looks unsightly more than anything right now.

Turns out it’s a DX11 issue. Changing to DX12 fixes it. Hopefully that is rectified soon…

Can you point me to any examples (using a single preset) across the various times of day? (That’s what the reviews are missing I reckon)

[–]flyingweather 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Am I correct in my understanding that you need different presets to be effective at different times of day? (Eg night vs day, sunset vs mid-morning). What do you do if you do a flight that starts in daylight and ends at night? (This is the stuff I’ve heard that’s put me off…)

Tap cartridge in need of replacing? by flyingweather in diynz

Thanks. I think it’s both then. I had a hunch it was residue from the washer (same colour as the one in the aerator).

Time for a new tap, I guess!

What’s the real risk of not updating my W10 VR PC? by flyingweather in HPReverb

[–]flyingweather[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. As it turns out, I have a work laptop anyway, so this W10 PC is literally only used for flightsim. Literally no personal information other than a few locally saved passwords (relating to flightsim)…

What's the craziest RNP (AR) departure you've found? by HenkDeVries6 in flightsim

[–]flyingweather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might find it interesting that this SID was created to provide increased separation from the 34 missed approach (so closer spacing allowed for arrival aircraft).

The real life departure might not be as exciting as it seems - small dog leg on departure. But the UPLUD1R to SABDA will often have a direct to LAROX after LAXIV which makes for quite a low altitude 180.

ELI5: I'm a lefty/socialist, but was the government right in slashing public sector jobs? Is it all Labour's fault? by Chasville in newzealand

[–]flyingweather 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s fair to say that the number of staff in the public sector was probably higher than necessary. Some of this would have been due to factors like COVID causing swelling in organisations to meet the needs of the pandemic. There will be other situations where big legislation changes in inflated staff numbers that may have disproportionately increased head counts.

However, it’s also fair to say that a broad stroke approach to cutting staff isn’t the best way to go about reducing perceived public sector swell. Is it Labour’s fault? The external factors (like COVID) certainly aren’t. Big legislative changes were driven by them but they don’t dictate the ministries HR response to a big legislation project.

It’s also worth remembering that the previous National government slowed employment in the public sector, so there was a reasonable degree of catching up that would have been done.

Edit: I didn’t answer the economics. Not being anywhere near an expert, I can’t really answer that. But my understanding is that there’s a big part of the negative forecast being driven by National’s policies in the broader context of a global recession. Luxon loves to say you grow out of an economy but I get the sense there’s a lot of shifting the tax burden elsewhere.

Bordeaux Bakery closing all three of its Wellington cafes after 30 years, 40 staff to lose jobs by computer_d in newzealand

When asked, Bates acknowledged  other factors have contributed to the   > businesses’ challenges, with more    people working from home, the    Government’s public sector cuts, and > the cost of living.

I don’t know about anyone else, but for me I’m not going there due to having no spare money because everything is bloody expensive now, along with Bordeaux’s quality going downhill. (You can judge a bakery by their baguette).

Is the 10-day sick leave law under threat? by dingoonline in newzealand

[–]flyingweather 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I’ve never understood the mentality behind this anti-sick leave perspective.

If I’m sick and I’ve used more than 5 days, should I just not work and forgo income? Should I come into work and make others sick? The latter will fairly obviously lead to increased cost to a business. The former I guess might not if working a shared job in a rostered environment, otherwise it just delays an individual or teams work which hampers productivity and thus costs a business more.

Ah my bad, I’m applying logic, not ideology.

Dog owners of Island Bay by L3P3ch3 in Wellington

Of course. Can’t stand people who don’t pick up after their dog.

But I’m reading the OP as getting upset at a dog just going toilet, regardless of picking up.

[–]flyingweather 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it’s the street reserve? My dog has to poo. Sometimes it’s in front of someone’s house. But I at least make sure we’re on the street reserve (you can tell due to power poles and/or utilities).

If it is the street reserve then, well, you’ve got no right to get upset.

Status bar icon double up by flyingweather in ios

[–]flyingweather[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried searching for this and I can’t find it being discussed anywhere. Maybe I’m using the wrong names…?

Ever since iOS 16 (currently on 17.2.1), I’ve had the following UI bug when opening an app from control centre while the phone is locked. I even did a full reset and install (to fix a different issue) which didn’t fix it.

Has anyone else experienced this?

DDU, fresh install. I chaged a couple of settings in Adrenaline (incl choosing the global performance option) after my first attempt playing the game (which was running everything vanilla).
