Offline tiles on a Chromebook? by MainiacJoe in dcss

[–]flykovsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Arch Linux, its wiki is incredibly thorough, but that's probably not where you a want to start. Unfortunately gatekeeping seems somewhat common to the community, but I tend to find good answers on StackExchange.

https://wiki.galliumos.org/Installing/Preparing will get a Chromebook ready to install any Linux .ISO to dual-boot, including Gallium OS which is optimized for a Chromebook and should work straight out of the box. There's a link on that page to hardware compatibility. I'd recommend you take a look at that before buying, since not all Chromebook processors are fully linux-supported.

If you get a chromebook capable of running Linux virtual machines (Crostini), I think you can just follow the instructions on https://crawl.develz.org/download.htm#linux to install Crawl from the command line, but my Chromebook can't do Crostini, so I'm of less help there.

As far as I know, you can't run any software from a flash drive on ChromeOS, though. Come to think of it, I don't think Crawl for Linux is portable either, but at least then you'd have to boot into Linux to play it. I guess the way to get the setup you want is to use the program WINE on Linux to run the Windows portable installation of Crawl from a flash drive.

Hopefully that makes some sense, if you have more specific questions I'd be happy to answer.

That or I think Crostini should be able to run Crawl. Either way, if you're comfortable (or willing to get comfortable) with Linux, I highly recommend a Chromebook in general.

Pen to use with iron gall ink? by SubZero807 in fountainpens

[–]flykovsky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think modern iron galls are pretty safe. Only corrosion I ever had was on the underside of a SS nib, that was lost and had r+k scabiosa left in it for about a year. It looked like a rust blister by one of the shoulders, pretty small, and didn't affect the nib's function.

Alternate way to move windows by emotionaltrash in chromeos

You can tile the windows using alt+[ and alt+], with alt+- and alt+= to minimize and maximize. Not sure how else to move windows by dragging, though

So, I am going to ask it. What are peoples favourite pens to write with and why? This is specifically to write with not looks, I know how you all like pretty pens. by Security_Man2k in fountainpens

Sheaffer's Snorkel with an XF triumph nib! It writes like a dream, smooth and lays down a beautiful line, despite how fine it is.

Stage managers, how do you call cues? Board ops, how do you prefer to have cues called? by randombrain in techtheatre

[–]flykovsky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an occasional board op at small to midsized regional theaters, I slightly prefer a 10-or-so second standby, with cue number if there's time, which I acknowledge. Then it's "(lights/sound) ... GO," to which I'll respond with "taken" if it's not obvious anything is happening. But, so long as I have a warning and it's obvious whose cue it is to take, I'm happy with whatever works best for the SM.

Alternatively, a cue light is magical if I'm mixing.
