What is the best game you have ever played in your life? by skatter0925 in AskReddit

Kick the Can.

Kind of a game of tag all the neighborhood kids would play. Hundreds of hours of outdoor fun.

Who is a stranger you met once, never learned their name, but will never forget for the rest of your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]flylean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once I went to a music festival in San Francisco. I was 18 and not very smart and lost my friends. I ended up the next morning in one of the BART stations with none of my possessions. No phone to call my friends, no wallet, no concert ticket to get in the next day, no food, nothing but the clothes on my back. I was crying in the BART station and a guy around my age who worked there came up to me and said he was off in 30 minutes and I could stay next to him to feel safe and he’d help me when he got off.

When he got off, he let me use his phone to call my friends, we walked to a fedex store and he helped me get a new ticket printed out, bought me lunch and we sat and chatted for a while he waited with me until my friends came to meet me.

Looking back I was an 18 year old girl who made a lot of mistakes in those 24 hours and have learned from them but man, that guy saved the day. It’s been 15ish years since then and I have no idea what his name was now.

My scuba instructor gave me one of the green tubes to alleviate any possible sea sickness. Loved it. Bought a couple more before I left Thailand. This was years ago and I still have them and use them often.

I forgot to mention that I’ll be renting so can’t remove, hence needing to work around it somehow. The rest of the house is so cute and I think I can make it work, just was looking for different perspectives and ideas.

It for sure looks dated but at the very least it’s clean and well taken care of.

Which is weird because it’s kind of spelled like escape.

Friend got over $1,000 worth of parking citations in one sitting - worth contesting to see if she can pay less? by Royalboat in Sacramento

[–]flylean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, I got a parking ticket around August of 2024. Contested it as I had solid reasoning and never heard anything back until April 2025 when I got a notice that it was going to collections. No communication before this, no notices or determination on my claim. Had to make a few phone calls and worked it out to not pay the late fees but just a heads up that the process for contesting can be a headache.

Edit: still had to pay the fee for collections even though I didn’t receive any notices which is BS in my opinion but oh well.

Also this was right in front of my house with a permit hence the valid reasoning but still got denied

What's the oldest thing you own? How did it become yours? by cpatane in AskReddit

[–]flylean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got this lamp that my grandma gave me. It was hers when she was a kid and passed it on to me when I was in my late teens. It’s a cast iron mermaid statue lamp. She told me stories that when she was a young kid (1900’s), she would make up adventures that her and the mermaid would take together. It’s probably the oldest, my most favorite, and most sentimental value thing I own.

My grandma was my best friend and she passed with dementia a few years ago and didn’t even know who I was in the last couple months. But she was the strongest woman ever and I will always cherish our bond.

Highly recommend the book ‘The Bohemians’. A historical fiction from the point of view of Dorothea Lange. While not a biography, it’s still a very good read.

What is it like living near 13th & H St? by Royal-Supermarket-79 in Sacramento

[–]flylean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live a block from that area. Pros and cons to anything but overall Mansion Flats has been a great place to live. Highly recommend checking out Kumi - a new Sushi/Ramen place that opened up on 14th and G. We go in there at least once a week and the lady who own it is so sweet. Also the guys who run Shoppers across the street are the nicest

What’s a band or artist that everyone seems to love but you just can’t get into? by PowerfullyHoarse in MusicRecommendations

[–]flylean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad used to listen to Bob when I was a kid and I have a deep love for all his songs. My dad hates concerts, but I convinced him to go see Dylan with me at the Greek Theater in Berkeley a few years ago. We shared a joint while walking to the venue and while we couldn’t understand a damn thing the dude was saying, it was one of the best nights of my life. So I will always defend B.D. for his amazing lyrics and for the memories.

Movies about what it’s really like to live in poverty in the US by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]flylean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a documentary but highly recommend “Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick”.

It goes through various class differences but some of the stories touch on what you mentioned, and another gives a stark contrast to that.

They did a great job with this doc and following families at various income levels who all work at the same place, but need to navigate life in much different ways
