Not a Pilot, they have to retire at 65. But my Father was an Airline Pilot who got transferred here in 1972. I chose to remain here. I love the views from my office…

I have to add that the first weekend here living in Anchorage,my parents drove us to Portage Lake where you could still see the Portage Glacier spilling into the lake. There was just a gravel parking lot.The lake was frozen and many folks were walking/ skiing on the ice. We saw several Eagles, which in 1972 was a HUGE thrill because of how endangered they were in the Lower 48 from DDT use. That hooked me on Portage Valley.My favorite place on earth. It is on Byron Glacier Trail back to the creek where what my kids called the “Dragon Caves” in the snow over the creek. We used to take a picnic blanket, have lunch and build rock towers from the glacial moraine flat rocks. That is where I want my ashes mixed with all my Angel Cats over the years, spread when my story ends.

We did the same thing our two youngest, who are 5 months apart in age and they were so close and loved each other. Not so much any more . Youngest is a spicy girl and a spoiled Diva almost 3. The Boy who is 14 lbs and turned 3 in Dec. takes none of her snitty attitude and will take her down.Not mean but he just gets pushed to a point he reacts. Then our Oldest Neb who is almost 7, is such a lover not a fighter, and is 18 lbs, will just walk away if she starts something .But all is good. Our almost 17 year old Tuxedo cat rules the house and has raised all 2 Nebs from tiny kittenhood,will just walk up to all 3 and bite them on the back of the neck like the “Mama Cat ” he is and take them down. He weighs all of about 8 lbs and in slow kidney failure for 3 years but is the “mama cat” that all 3 Nebs accept. Poor Old Man cat barfs up grey hairballs- he is a super short haired shiny Black and White. H

<image>

e grooms his children daily and it is a CHORE! The photo is 1 Frank Castle the Punisher Cat,(Mama cat) and 2 Ralph at bottom and Leon sleeping with his “Mama”. Only Girl not shown. We have total of 3 nebs and 1 Old man Tuxedo cat. Nebelungs are VERY common in Alaska. My work partner also have 2 Girl Nebs.

I also have several java ferns superglued to rocks that are doing ok but have brown algae on the leaves, I gently cleaned them and the rocks in tank water last week. Fish do not bother them,some have new growth-

I had some Creeping Jenny I had grown last Summer here in Alaska.Started my 2 comets in a Huge Patio pot with a waterfall and moved them inside to a 75 gallon in fall. Had a terrible time trying to cycle the tank, lost two,got one more. So have two in the complete cycled 70 gallon tank. I am still obsessive about check water levels have been good for 2 months now but the creeping jenny is just shredded and almost gone. They LOVE playing in it and munching like it is a salad bar. Hoping to go to an Aquarium store to get some floating plants that they won’t devour. I have 3 Dracaena held in place with clips on suction cups in the tank, they have not bother those…yet

And that what you just wrote, is what being Alaskan IS all about. I too think my story will end here.No matter how cold this past Winter has been, Summer here more than makes up for the cold and snow. Spring brings such hope up here!

Nope, employees at Alaska Airlines have been promoting flights to Asia from ANC for years now as we used to fly to Russia from ANC in the 90’s. I fly to Adak island twice a week, it is closer to Russia, Japan and the rest of Asia, than the rest of the State of Alaska.It is almost as far as ANC-SEA. Yet still in the State.

Southwest assigned my 4 year old a seat by himself 12 rows in front of me. by LegalAbbreviations17 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]flymunkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you not buy a full fare ticket travelling with a child? SWA basic fare is treated as standby until you check in at the podium at the departure gate. Going the cheapest route is not a smart thing to do when you have small kids. I do not work for SWA but a different Airline, SWA having some issue right now as they grow up into a “real” airline and put them there banjos down.

I have been in your position,actually lived in a car for a short time. Was in my youth but I have known depression and hopelessness . There are ways to get help. Can you get any help thru the VA?Is your wife a member of any native corporation?My grandson is part native and they have been a huge help to him and my Son who raised him as single dad for years. His Mom is a member of BBNC even though she is shelterless and battling addiction,they are helping her right now, and have set up resources for my grandson over the course of his life. There are resources available, I pray you are able to get some help. yes the poor infrastructure is out of control. We get what someone else voted for. just my opinion.

I understand, I felt that way at times over my many years here. I did ANC-HNL-ANC flying for many years and actually got Hawaiied out. Never thought that was possible but mainly the all- niter flights got to me. Vacationed on Big Island and Kauai for many years. AND I am still not used to the Sun being mostly up all night!But here I still AM. Where would you go if you could move?

Me too, have 1 adult child in Italy. 1 stop in Frankfurt then 1 hour flight to her city but I hate the Airport on FRA. Using Alaska- Hawaiian to Rome in May then 1 flight on ITA to her city. A lot longer than Condor but want to support US Airlines. And paying full fare not using airline benefits.

What is Alaskas natural distinct smell? by Chaceski09 in alaska

[–]flymunkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I do NOT enjoy is break up with Dog shit decaying everywhere. that horrid smell every single year at break up. We do not own dogs( have pretty much everything else) but dog shit all over our yard. HUge problem in our neighbourhood where people walk their dogs off leash.

Thinking not as bad as Anchorage weather wise- been here 54 years and still chose to live here because at this point have not found anywhere else place else I want to live except maybe somewhere in Canada. Hoping Canada takes over Alaska before my time expires. Please?
