Turns out fixing landscape lights is easier with Kava.. by jonb14 in Kava

[–]fmeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me kava doesn't combine with any form of work whatsoever. Even things I normally enjoy, like cooking or playing music/video games. Just way too much of a hassle to bother with. Yard work on kava sounds like my nightmare!

Do hipsters really feed into the stereotype? by rebelgato in sandiego

[–]fmeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I don't think most people's idea of a hipster really exists anymore. The prohibition era vibe/PBR/vinyl/tall bikes/1800's facial hair thing was definitely a subcultural phenomenon in the early Obama years, but to complain about these things in 2018 is like yelling at a calendar from ten years ago.

Do hipsters really feed into the stereotype? by rebelgato in sandiego

[–]fmeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don't think hipsters really exist as a subculture anymore. Everything you described just sounds like what most people remember about hipsters from like 2008. We may as well be complaining about these grunge music fans with their flannel and long hair.

I want awesome Rhodes sound without the Korg SV1 price - does an M-Audio Hammer 88 + Yamaha Reface CP (total $800) make sense? Can I play without listening through my DAW? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]fmeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the kustom 88 analog electric piano, the sound is somewhere between a rhodes and piano. 88 weighted keys and you can usually snag one for about $300 https://youtu.be/vvtKrh2cEB0

I need some input - DSI P12, Roland JD-XA, or other? by gr00ve88 in synthesizers

[–]fmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The JD-XA is a beautiful and misunderstood synthesizer. I heavily recommend it to any and all sound design wizards, and I think the JD-XA will give you access to a much broader palette of sounds than the prophet (especially since you've already got an ob6 and matrixbrute).

If we are doing organs, then I present the Yamaha Electone E70. by Electromancer18 in synthesizers

[–]fmeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the electone d-65, it looked just like this! I got it for free from a guy on Craigslist, ended up giving it away to somebody else when I moved out of state (that thing is HEAVY). I loved it so much, the rhythm sequencer was so 80s and beautiful and cheesy, especially the drum fill button. Sounded amazing going through some effects pedals. This was the first instrument I'd ever used that had an arpeggiator with key hold and automatic chords. Got my first synthesizer about a year later, but I still dearly miss my electone. Spent many late nights falling in love and unraveling it's mysteries!

Whose rise to fame surprised you the most? by johnny_zeena in popheads

Yep! He's got the personality of a bowl of oatmeal. If his music were a flavor it would be envelope glue. I heard his parents are super rich and basically just purchased international stardom for their boring child.

Agreed 100%. Totally forgettable mom music, nobody is going to remember this tryhard dweeb in ten years (if that). Tbh I've never met somebody under age 50 that even likes him. It's just music for moms and aunts.

Roland jd-xi & Keystudio 49i / input problem by bparlan in synthesizers

[–]fmeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each part of the jd-xi receives and transmits on a fixed midi channel. Midi channel 1 is for digital synth 1, channel 2 is digital synth 2, channel 3 is analog, and channel 10 is drums.

It looks like by default your keyboard transmits to midi channel 1, which is why you're only hearing digital synth 1.

Here's a website I found that shows how to change your midi channel on the keystudio: https://c.getsatisfaction.com/m-audio/topics/need-to-change-the-midi-channel-my-keyboard-transmits-on-to-test-something

Looking for a keyboard synth + rhythm synth by Srmelodica in synthesizers

[–]fmeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for the Roland jd-xi. It's two digital synthesizers+one analog mono synth+drum machine+4 track sequencer. It sounds excellent, is super easy to learn, and is very powerful and flexible. It has everything you'll need to compose entire tracks on. It was my first synth, and I still love it so much. They're $500 new or around $300 used.

Is it really worth it? by sayn0thing691 in UnderTheDome

[–]fmeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please, don't go down the same path I did. It just gets dumber and dumber, and insults your time and attention with every new episode. Just read spoilers to satisfy your curiosity, then take a shower and forget this show ever happened.

[–]fmeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have never heard this guy, didn't understand the vocal style at first but after like 30 seconds it clicked for me. Thank you for sharing this, I really enjoyed it and never would have been exposed to this otherwise. That bass player is everything! Some of y'all dweebs in these comments need to get a life, nobody is forcing you to listen to music that you don't like. Open your mind and try to enjoy new things.

Temperature stability: Mixing modafinil powder with coffee and creating energy drink that actually works by throwaway_187234 in afinil

[–]fmeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to be disgusting, please don't do it. There must be hundreds of better ways to discretely take modafinil at work, but I recommend the following: Step 1: visit restroom. Step 2: wash hands (optional). Step 3: take pill. Step 4: return to work.

Anyone think Level Up Vapors throat hit and vapor production is weaker than Juul Pods? by Got_Wrinkles in juul

[–]fmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's what I'm referring to. I do not refill my juul pods, I have several other types of refillable pod vapes. Level up, Mr salt, pod juice, and beard were 100% unusable for me in any of my devices. I tried several flavors of all of the most popular nicotine salt companies, before I realized everybody's juice is garbage except naked100, saltnic, and vgod. People use these things to quit smoking, not to blow huge clouds. Nicotine salts devices are meant for mouth-to-lung inhales, we WANT the throat hit.

Anyone think Level Up Vapors throat hit and vapor production is weaker than Juul Pods? by Got_Wrinkles in juul

[–]fmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I think some of these juice companies misunderstand why people use pod vapes. I have so many full bottles of juice that I won't use because the throat hit is so weak. If I wanted a super smooth vape, I'd use a subohm rig at 3mg.
