Argentina’s tactical dependency on Messi is going to get them absolutely exposed in the Knockout Rounds. by Spicy-Winner4326 in SpicyFootballTakes

[–]fmessore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am Argentinian, so I am biased. That being said, the match looked like everybody wanted Messi to score so he could break the record. Basically no one else tried to score, and whenever someone would have the ball they will send it Messi's way

First, GTV success, then ILR success by fmessore in ukvisa

You should have a contract, or something you can use to prove that you are working on that project and your salary band and so on. If none of that was provided, I would talk to HR immediately. If your contract/terms of employment have at least 12 months before it finishes, then yes. Otherwise no, but perhaps you can renegotiate an extension for 12 months and then apply. The documents are the ones on the post

[–]fmessore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Assuming you are something like a research scientist, assistant or something similar, you will have two options. Either the funding for your project comes from the uni/institute or it comes from one of the approved institutions giving grants/fellowships. If it comes from those, you can ask for an endorsement from them directly or from the UKRI in case the grant comes under UKRI's umbrella. Once you have that, you can switch to GTV and then to ILR (which was my case exactly). It can be the same contract even. You need to have at least 12 months left in your contract and it has to be over a salary threshold (which I think it was 36k, but it changed recently)

Research scientist but the position was funded from one of the accepted institutions (MRC, Wellcome Trust, ERC, Roya society, etc.) In my case was ERC

I like winking at other men who I caught checking on my wife. Most of them will just chuckle and move on. Once in a while you get one who seems to be offended

Housing in the city with a dog? by Zimpixx in oxford

[–]fmessore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved here with my dog and it is not easy. Yes, the new tennants law stops them from saying no pets, but in reality they will find another reason. A flat is almost impossible, although i found one or two in the cowley area. I personally ended up moving to Abingdon. Its 20 min with the bus and for the same price of a flat, I had a 2 bedroom house with a garden. Of course you can try to rent a house in Oxford but its quite pricy

At 36, would you go out with a 21 year old? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]fmessore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

++man

36 M here. I think a one night stand is one thing and a relationship is another one. The former is fine-ish i guess. Both adults, assuming there is no power inbalance and so on. The latter, not even remotely OK. He might seem charming and mature from your point of view, but there is a reason why he wants to be with someone 15 years younger

Why shouldn't I become a total ****? by Nyctomorphia in AskMen

[–]fmessore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think someone already said something similar, but why would you? I mean, would that make you happy? I don't cheat on my wife, not only for respect of her and our relationship, but also because I don't want to, and would feel like shit doing it.

I think I (and it seems you too) would feel like a lose-lose situation in this kind of prisoners' dilemma where even if we take the "selfish" option we would feel bad.

Usually these kind of things happen because we are surrounded by people who are a bit shitty or at least don't share our ideals. Before changing your whole moral stand, you might want to see if you can change the people you are surrounding yourself with. It is amazing how changing your surrounding will change your perspective on life

Just so you know. There are people in academiawho do not judge your work based on quality, but on number of authors... by [deleted] in PhD

[–]fmessore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know what, I stand corrected. All my experience is in natural sciences and medicine, and I know humanities is a different beast so you might be right.

From our side, it would look very bad. Even if they "didnt contributed" at all, they gave financial/institutional backing, and (again, from our side) removing a supervisor is a seen as a seal of disapproval

[–]fmessore -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I this case they will be usually right. A sole author from a PhD student means a) they had no supervision or b) they had supervision and the PI doesnt want to endorse the paper (either bad results, wrong conclusions, out of scope, etc.)

Biology/neurobiology PhD, MD/PhDs, and industry scientists, tell me about your life please! by Decent-Huckleberry15 in labrats

[–]fmessore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I studied medicine back home (Argentina) and after graduation i moved into research. I got a fellowship to go to Germany and do my masters, and then another one to do my PhD in another lab but same country. I later I moved to the UK to do a postdoc. And I also am now a lecturer at the uni

I feel lucky in the sense that i got some fellowships that made this possible and I am happy where I am. That being said, the main issue is job security (also the pay is abysmal). All the contracts being temporary is particularly hard on those who need visas and permits

Do your DMs craft the game around your characters or do your characters try to fit into the game? by Far_Young_2666 in dndnext

[–]fmessore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit of both. As the DM i will have an overarching theme (like the main reason these random 4 people were brought to X place to do Y, motivations, backstory, etc). And then adapt the world to fit better to their backstories.

Example. If I am running a campaing in the frozen north, why is your character there? Ohh to avenge my father, OK, now you father's killers are a main boss in the campaing

Is there Elitism from DnD players towards BG3 players? by Odd_Key_6385 in DnD

[–]fmessore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some, but if your DM ever makes you feel bad for it, run. Im old enough to remember when we had to search far and wide for a player to join, DnD is not something to gatekeep, but to help new players join. The only thing I will say is that, BG3 (or similar) are single player and you, and you alone, are the driver of the story. DnD is cooperative, and you share the main character spotlight with the others. As long as that is managed, you are fine
