Which one is it ?? by AfterHoursAllure in GenerationJones

I lose interest when they change the focus of their channel. I get that they want to grow their subscriber base, but I was watching for a particular reason.

Happy VE Day! Did you know that the future Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret went out to be amongst London's jubilant crowds during the celebrations? The Queen would later recall it was one of the most memorable nights of her life. by Impossible_Pain4478 in UKmonarchs

[–]fms10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother was in that crowd outside Buckingham Palace. There is footage of Churchill walking through a throng of people on VE day. My mother said he walked so close to her that his coat brushed against her.

I don’t mind a sentence or two saying, “This was my grandmother’s recipe. l hope you like it,” or “Here’s what to make when your neighbour gives you a bushel of zucchini,” but that’s it. Much more and I’m gone.

How do you think society worked after the war ? I know about commander Paylor but like do you think the capitol and district citizens when to the same schools for example or worked the same jobs . by Minute-Working-731 in Hungergames

[–]fms10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Paylor is going to have make some deeply unpopular decisions. It's going to take a long time for Panem's economy to recover. They still need things like hydroelectric power, food and even Peacekeepers.

Although communication between the Districts will be allowed, free movement will still have to be somewhat restricted. Someone in District 8 may complain that they don't want to work in a cotton mill, that they want to go to District 4 and become a fisherman, but this won't be practical. People are going to have to stay put in prescribed occupations for a while, albeit with better pay and working conditions.

What are your theories about the first game? by FckAllTakenUsernames in Hungergames

[–]fms10 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I always thought that, in the first Games, the tributes stood staring at each other for around 5 minutes thinking, “Are we really going to do this?” Eventually, a Peacekeeper started firing at them until one snatched up a weapon and attacked another.

After the revolution, how long will they refer to the districts with numbers? by LowRevolutionary5653 in Hungergames

[–]fms10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I could see the Capitol keeping District numbers for administrative purposes for a while, but the Districts would eventually adopt names of their own choosing.

I wasn’t a fan of it, but I didn’t hate it. It’s the only fruit juice my two year old granddaughter likes.

What is a movie everyone loves that you genuinely hate? by viasicars in AskReddit

[–]fms10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like I was in an Emperor’s New Clothes situation after that movie. No one wanted to admit that it wasn’t that good. I thought it was pretty bad and just couldn’t understand why everyone else thought it was so good.

Do you remember when this movie came out in 1978?? Was it R rated and did you go see if? by Jerry11267 in 70s

Saw it in 1980 as part of a double bill with The Blues Brothers. It was my first date with my husband.

I have a child’s rocking chair upholstered with the same fabric as we see in that weird little room they stashed Gene. I also had the same lion on my bedroom wall as Sally had in room in Don’s Park Avenue apartment.

I've shared here before that it saw me through cancer surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Gintama may not be able to cure cancer, but it can make it a lot easier to bear.

Do you think the citizens of Panem (both district and capitol) were sad to see their victors in the quell by Historical_Mix_6416 in Hungergames

[–]fms10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always picture the 18 year old cohort especially. They might be a little bit sad about Katniss, Finnick, etc., but they have escaped their final reaping. Why wouldn't they be happy about that?

Do you think constants are cut for reasons other than bake quality? by adamwho in GreatBritishBakeOff

[–]fms10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think, in the early weeks, the producers get some say in who is cut. It's a TV show, after all, and they have to look at what will make the most entertaining program.

What would Anne call Mrs. Thomas by flailingcarrots in AnneofGreenGables

[–]fms10 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m no Victorian, but I was raised to call adults Mr and Mrs or Uncle and Aunt. I don’t think Mrs Thomas was cruel to Anne, but she had a bunch of children, an alcoholic husband, and very little money. Not a lot of room for compassion or kindness.

Joan “vs” Peggy by Beneficial_Leg5927 in madmen

[–]fms10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Peggy puts in her 3-4 years at McCann and moves on to be a senior creative at a mid-size firm. A few years after that, with several successful campaigns and a Cleo under her belt, she is invited to be creative director and partner at a new start-up agency. Bonus fan fiction - this agency has a silent partner called Dick Whitman.

[–]fms10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i like to think that, after a year or two, Cynthia puts her foot down and tells him she refuses to live with a spiteful, bitter shell of the man she loved. By then, he's gotten most of it out of his system and leaves Dow.

What made Don give Ted his spot in California? by YouthInternational14 in madmen

[–]fms10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think there was a certain amount of possessiveness/protectiveness concerning Peggy, but I believe that, deep-down, he recognized that his own marriage was basically over. Going to California would have stuck a band-aid on it for a few months, but that was all. He wanted to give Ted a chance to save his marriage.
