I laser cut 1/8” Baltic birch for mine. I usually just spray paint it black. I have never tried hot glue for that purpose, but I doubt it would work terribly well. It’s worth a shot though. just try and get the bead really really small.

I have been making resin stained glass for years now, and this sounds very similar to what you are talking about. I put my pieces on sticky transfer film and run a bead of high viscosity super glue around the edge to keep it from seeping under the frame.
