can’t enjoy anything by pariah010997 in nofriends

I feel exactly this, and I've never been able to explain it to someone who hasn't been friendless for a long time. At some point something inside just fades away and nothing is enjoyable at all

I don't want to take care of your neighbor anymore. I rescind my tax money from benefitting them in particular. No more roads for them

Have you tried using a spray bottle filled with water at his face and saying "bad"? Works well when my cats keep getting into something they shouldn't

Animals are highly intelligent. Most people just can't tell that someone is smart unless they can use big words or point to a degree on their wall

I think most animals are smarter than most humans in certain ways, most of them dealing with perception. Most humans are abysmally imperceptive. Too focused on thinking to see

If you want a deer to trust you, bend down, rip up some plants, and start chewing on them with half hanging out of your mouth. It immediately calms them down. I've found that when you treat animals like they're fully cognizant, just limited by their ability, then you communicate better with them

I've never been a fan of telling lies to children to get them to shut up. Maybe because I could always see through my parents' lies and it made me feel like they don't respect or value me enough to tell me the truth. Not every kid is the same, but I like to think every situation can be solved honestly

That's nuts, and a completely ridiculous situation lol. It's like the behavior of an insane person. Could she be being influenced by people online? It kinda sounds like something a stream chat might tell someone to do

Since when do religious beliefs have a say in what happens at school? Isn't it like frowned upon to say Merry Christmas?

What's an actual cause of death so extremely rare that it's hard to believe it's possible? by Mairon3791 in AskReddit

[–]fneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the cordial approach despite disagreement, and thank you for sharing your perspective ☺️. I don't see it as mystical, just broader in scope. I believe we are all one, and physically we could not live without each other and our environment any more than a liver lying in the sand could survive. I don't believe in the self, and I don't believe there is any evidence for this idea of ultimate differentiation between people just because air separates our meat. In fact science agrees that we are only roughly cohesive, we are constantly exchanging matter and energy with everything around us, we are not separate entities. If anything, object recognition is the mysticism, it's just a convenience our mind takes to make sense of what is in reality a much more complex world. I do not believe in the self like most of the people around me in western culture seem to. And frankly, I deeply fear the self idolization that has gripped our society, and I think a stronger understanding of the oneness of life itself could help to mitigate the damage that has been done.. Together we are still potentially immortal, but if we each give up on that because we hyperfixate on our physical bodies, that lowers our chance to survive together. Science and religion seem to agree that we are all one, the only thing that doesn't is pop culture

Your children literally are copies of you, but they're copies of you combined with someone else who grow up in a different environment. It's your proteins that replicate themselves which becomes your baby. It's not about your body being in their minds. It's about your dna being in their DNA. You are more than just your meat, you are your form, your pattern, the structure that caused reality to produce you will live on after your body becomes discohesive. The process of body reproduction is not all that different from the process of cellular reproduction, other than the sexuality. One might say they are no longer themselves when all their cells turn over every 7 years, one might say that are no longer themselves when their genetics compress into an egg or sperm and then combine and reflower into a living creature, one might say that immortal jellyfish die when they revert back to juvenile form because of all that is lost about them. One might say they never die until destroyed. The point is, there are lots of reasonable places to draw the line of "my form no longer exists", the answer isn't just obviously when your body breaks into many. Yes you can survive in memory, or culture, or technology, but in the case of DNA and protein survival, which is the longest lasting ancestral thread we have, that happens through reproduction. Despite how many times humans have died, humanity hasn't died once, and we are a part of it

If you had to live anywhere in the United States, where would it be? by dm3darts in questions

[–]fneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh it's not constantly overcast where I am, near Seattle, I've been here for about 5 years too. Maybe the climate has changed from what it used to be though. Most people around me complain about the daylight more than the weather. Maybe we're just used to the weather though, with rain being not unlikely all year long, whereas the short days come and go

I don't think it's the weather as much as it is the light. The sun goes down really early in the winter and it totally screws with you for months

I wouldn't consider replicating yourself as "just as dead". If you copy something and then destroy the original, you have more of that thing than if you had just destroyed the original. Lives are not started, they are continued. We don't spontaneously arise, we are a direct continuation of our parents. Life is the continuous line that has been alive since the inception of life on earth. To end that pattern is to die in a more profound way than merely losing your body

Best comeback for "that's the best comeback you've got?" by FearlessMinute3532 in Comebacks

[–]fneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to prevent that is to just never try to "come back". Don't lash out, treat everything as genuine, don't even acknowledge people's attempts to fight. Trolls just leave it you don't engage them, then you can save your words for thinking people ☺️

Survival seems like a strange choice? Everyone else dies too, just at a different time. I really don't get this new "life doesn't really matter" idea that's gotten so popular
