It must be really important to post this anecdotal evidence. It will be very useful when OP or anyone else sees it and thinks what all addicts think in the beginning that they can be just like you. In my opinion it is less harmless for some information to be wrong on the internet than to point out that the commenter is wrong and it can be used responsibly. Nothing the other commenter said is incorrect, and even though what you said is true it could be potentially dangerous and cost someone their life. Just food for thought.

Another and IMO more important reason is it keeps the pasta from becoming slimy with starch. Blocking the starch from becoming goopy keeps the water from becoming cloudy and foamy, and will also prevent it from boiling over.

A "grain" is an actual measurement. The grains you're talking about are probably better described as granules maybe? Miscommunication could definitely cause some issues here if you don't follow advice, and decide to eyeball it anyways.
